  • This has improved this move for me by like 60%

  • Beautiful.

  • I see that I am past the deadline. Can I still buy the shirt from your store? What is the link to the store. I don't see it on the regular site?

  • "If you're struggling to do that, it's because your hands are weak. Sorry to break it to you, but that's what it is. Do some grip training or grip strengthening exercises."

This made me laugh but I appreciate his candor, and he speaks the truth. Too many people try to make collar chokes work with a compromised grip. The mechanics are simple but it takes time to build not only the muscle memory for chokes, but the muscle to hit them against a resisting adult as well.

  • awesome breakdown. the little details are what make the difference at the highest level. i think this is why roger is able to dominate because of his attention to each technique rather than being ok at 20 moves it is better to master 5 moves

  • I know this vid is for the attacker...but for the defender, crossing your arms in a x fashion is bad. the arm that is on top while doing that, is easy to break through for the attacker. make the inner wrist meet then flare you fingers out. this allows you to keep your forearms and elbows closer to your body.

  • why doesn't he begin by saying "Hi!" first??? putain la politesse les gars, merde quoi? kkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Great to see some insight on Roger's choke. Thanks Nic.

  • but y r they wearing pijamas ! ? :P just joking very good video guys keep them coming

  • excellent details, tried it in class. Worked great, but opponent tested me using my head for base by bashing my head into the mat while bucking over and over and over. Now I have a lump. But he tapped so yay.

  • Great detail, improved my cross choke immediately!!

  • Excellent.

Great detail about tucking the feet in - NOT INTUITIVE!

Love this choke from the mount, it's my favorite to combine with the armbar :)

  • no excuse for great technique over strength. game, set, match.

  • so do they actually send everybody a shirt?

  • @fraige2010 no, we'll send one shirt to the best comment - Thanks for watching!

  • @bjjweekly So who won the shirt?

  • Very nice, in depth explanation of a technique that I have struggled with for a while. Thank you for sharing this and for being a part of the open information sharing that seems to define the BJJ community in general. Makes me proud to be studying this art. Best of luck with everything.

  • I really enjoyed this technique and some of other technique u show on jj bothers especially ur 90 degees video. I just started GBJJ and having a disability with limited use of my legs being technical is even more important to me. I love ur explanation of this move and the important details. I look forward to any other videos u will do all the best.

  • Rogers favorite....

  • Great video. I'll try this out tonight in class. I was actually taught to put my thumb in first on the choking hand rather than the fingers, but if it works for Roger Gracie/Nic I'll try it.

  • It seems there are Ju Jitsu "blackbelts" everywhere now and a "BJJ" school in every town. Most of them are No-Gi. They will say in a condescending way, "If you get attacked in the street, your attacker is probably not going to be wearing a Gi." While that is true, what they fail to realize is that this (and other lapel chokes) can be applied on coats, jackets, or even t-shirts. So I always reply back to them, "If you get attacked in the street, your attacker is probably not going to be naked."

  • great details on this position guys!

    very helpful

  • fundamentals for ever !

  • this dude teaches at roger gracie academy, top top teacher !!

  • Can they roll you as you finish the choke, but that by that time it won't matter? I personally don't 'feel' like my grips are strong enough to finish this asymmetrical choke from bott.

    So,

    1) "it's the body weight that is finishing the choke." I feel like there are more details and I have yet to see a mounted cross choke lesson on youtube targeted at higher level viewers...

    2) "your grip is weak." It's possible that my grip is weak, but unlikely as I am a physically strong dude.

    thoughts?

  • @afreiden

    1. If you do get rolled by the time you already have your grips in, you should easily be able to choke from the guard position.

    2. It is very possible you have weak grip strength. I used to body build before injuring my back and i had weak grip and didn't know it until bjj. Stronger grip will come with practice, or as he said grip strengthening exercises.

  • Great vid, thanks!

  • Great video, not so basic as it seems to be.

  • Nic is the John Danaher of the UK. If I come down to London again, I definitely won't miss a chance to train with him.

  • awesome details, thanks a lot
