Now theres a rare site an electrically hauled freight train in Britain. Most of the UK's rail electrification equipment is just for show and rarely supplies current to trains, it just sits there bathed in diesel fumes. The Government have just committed £705m to create another disconnected, partial island of Electrification on the Great Western. This will erect more part time catenary that will rarely see an electric train.
