I would never take valium or any drugs no matter how nervous i am at the dentist, in my opinion its ok to be nervous but you want to be alert and aware of what the denist is doing to your mouth and also charging you on the bill. Im sorry but if the dentist knows you are that nervous and on downers they can take advantage of you. Ive been to alot of dentists--top ranked and they are all scumbags. Only went to 1 that was nice and he retired
I try to stay calm by telling myself its mind over matter. I give birth to my daughter with no drugs and that hurt 100% more than a silly injection. Also a banana 30 min before for slow sugar release helps with blood presure to prevent fainting. Im having 2 fillings tomorrow and am already working myself up. Its mind over matter.
In my case of severe dental phobia, it took a combination of nitrous, very dark sunglasses, and loud music in my earphones to mask the noise of the drill to get me relaxed enough to have 9 cavities filled in the last two weeks.
I still have 4 more to go next Monday. Thank God for my dentist, Dr. Terrie Tran of Las Vegas! She has me now 90% over my phobia! It had been 18 years between dental appointments for me due to my phobia. She is the most kind, gentle professional I've encountered!
I'm not afraid of anything a dentist would have to do-- the neddles, the drilling... nothing. My anxiety is mostly about what if the novacane (dunno if I spelled it right) doesn't kick in right, or doesn't work all the way, and I can FEEL him working on me, lol. I've never had to have anything done yet, and hope I don't any time soon. But that's my main deal.
@MenstrualCupInfo don't worry they'll drill for like a second and if you feel anything at all you just tell them or they'll probably ask you and then they'll give you more novacaine
what i'm TERRIFIED of is the needles i'm not normally afraid of needles but they hurt me so much and make me cry :( i have an appointment next tuesday and i'm terrified

Just repeating go to the dentist and tell them you're nervous isn't very helpful.
