  • if you own a cobalt don't be surprised if your rod drops into the oil pan the lsj motor is not strong enough. yeah by the way i cant believe the hemi block is still cast iron. aluminum is just as strong if you buil it right. Cars need to be built by the engineers and not by some business guys in suits that don't know jack about how to build cars. I love my imports but domestics are going in the right direction and will be more than a car that just goes in a straight line real fast

I just had the supercharger put in and it added a good 120 hp

  • To the guy saying the new hemi motors are far superior then the old ones. Some odd reason I doubt you have even seen one in person much less drive a true classic hemi car. I have 3 real 392 hemi motors that will blow the new ones out of the water. When they came back out with the new hemi what a waste I mean seriously. The new challenger was the first car they have put that I personally think that should actually have a hemi in it. Since the orginals.

  • considering your 392s get about 7 MPG your throwin 5x the fuel the new fuel injected motors are. they do well for a 4100 pound car and still manage 20-22MPG. 420HP...

  • My no option Challenger R/T auto weighs 3920 lbs. That's lighter than the Camaro. It runs 13.1@106 mph bone stock. With a better air filter, it runs 12.8 @ 108 mph. So much for all the myths. I've beaten Shelbys at the track. Haven't raced a Camaro yet. I bet I will beat it too. There's nothing quite like a Hemi.

  • Have you actually had your car weighed? The R/T and SRT8 Challengers weigh the same, doesn't matter if it's the 5.7L or 6.1L engine. And if you run 13.1 with nothing but an air filter, then lets see some kind of proof, cuz I gaurantee that you're full of it. I have an '04 GTO M6 with no real mods that won't run 13.1, but I easily walk on the Challenger and Charger R/T 5.7L cars. To say the least, I was even more disappointed by the performance of these cars after seeing it first hand...

  • What world are you living on where the R/T Challenger and SRT Challenger weigh the same?

  • Idk where you think any difference in the weight would come from. Considering both cars use Iron block engines that are are of nearly identical weights. The only real differences in the cars that could produce and difference in the weight would be the Brembo brakes on the SRT. The tuning of the SRT's suspension isn't going to affect weight. And considering they both use the same transmissions, there's no difference in weight there. So tell me where any difference would come from.

  • The 6.1 Engine weighs more than the 5.7. The SRT-8 has 20Inch alloy wheels as opposed to 18Inch. Both use totally different suspension. Transmissions are totally different. Just because they are both 5 speeds doesn't mean they are the same. The R/T uses the 545RFE and the SRT-8 uses A580. The one in the SRT-8 weighs more. The SRT-8 weighs more. Not by much but still. Plain and Simple.

  • Those times are for the 6.1L str-8 package. Add about a second for the 5.7L hemi

  • It has huge heads and hemi combustion chambers, splayed valves on both sides of the head, dual rocker arms, big ports and sparkplugs in the middle through the valve covers. If that ain't a hemi, then what is it? The only difference is that the new hemi has a higher comression than the old one. The new hemi cars are much faster than the originals too.

    What other cars are faster, stock? Every car I can think of, in the Challengers price range, is within half a second of it. Some slower, some faster. I think the Challenger is a good balance of design, performance, luxury and price. Now im cheap, but maybe in 10 years ill buy one.

    No ones saying its the fastest car out there, but calling it slow is just ignorant.

  • The horsepower figures for the Challenger R/T are highly under rated at the factory. Tests show it really makes at least 450 H.P. Obviously there's nothing better than an engine with hemi heads on it. Mine is stock BTW. It's running 12's because I learned how to launch it.

  • My stock Hemi Challenger is now running 13.00 @107mph. Way more horsepower than a Camaro or Mustang because those two don't have hemi heads. Camaros and Mustangs are little pony cars for girlies. They have to build them small and light to get any speed out of them cause they can't get any power out of the weak, shrouded heads.   • Someone messed up BIGTIME in the weight and gearing departments. The car should weight 600 pounds less, should come with optional gear ratios as deep as 4.88's and a 5 speed close ratio. Oh an an optional 15 inch wheels and drag radials package.

  • The new Camaro's and Challenger's are great cars and will be neck and neck for the next couple of years (fuck Mustangs).

    As far as which car will be faster, I'm gonna go with the Camaro SS at this point because it has a better power/weight ratio than the SRT8, however we still need to see the official times on the Camaro.

    The Challenger looks more like the original Challenger. The Camaro has more of a refined, modern muscle car look.

    Don't believe me? Google "challenger SRT8 0-60 1/4 mile times" and see about 12 different pages.

    Besides,on street level, you can lose up to 1 second in reaction time (maybe more). So before we start arguing about TENTHS of seconds, let's think about how long .5 seconds is!

    True, this car is heavy, but that also bring balance and stability. On paper this car isn't the greatest, but overall it's beautiful.

  • The thing you have to remember about this car is that it's base doff the car theya re callign a charger. (you know huge and has four doors, and most 66-74 charger owners would never own/drive one)

    Thus it weighs two tons, literally. While they captured the look of the old car, when they are side by side, it's obvious how much more bulky the new one is. So,the fact that it can run 13's or high 12's stock is pretty decent for it's size.

  • I've driven a new challenger SRT8 automatic(top of the line) and they are not impressive. They are very heavy. I think stick would help a little but these cars are going to need some help. My GN would kill one in the 1/4 and I don't have a lot of work done to my car.

  • Sorry, but there are only three engine options in the U.S.A. for Challengers, and there aren't any that are as cheap as $20,000.00. The cheapest v-8 challenger starts at $30,545.00 and the v-6 starts at $22,545.00. Without knowing what engine, tranny, and tires they were running, or the experience level of the drivers, I can't make an accurate judgement on this video other than that both drivers seem to kinda suck (unless they have v-6's, then they kick ass!)

  • 0-60 is not the same, the dodge RT is at least a half a second faster to 60 mph, and that is a lot in a race. There is NO car that rapes the Challenger in looks. GM couldn't build a good looking car even if Chrysler helped them out.

  • You might check some of the classic car auctions and see what Hemi Cudas and Challengers are selling for. A Hemi Cuda recently sold for 2.2 million in Scottsdale.

    And it was a factory car not a dealer modified car like the Yenko.

    I think the new Camaro will be an awesome car (it should be with today's technology) But I can tell you this for sure, I have had the privilege of driving the SRT8 for a week and it is an great car.

    I suspect the Camaro will be very comparable.

  • just like YZ250vet says, Even Yenko camaros, and LS6 Chevelles have nothing on Hemi cuda's or Charger Daytonaswhen it comes to value. The only ones that even come close in comparison are the big block vettes.

    And for the record, it is a .5 second difference 0-60 straight out of GM's mouth. Don't tell me that the crapmaro is more appealing to more people cause the Challenger sold out in 08, and are still commanding a premium in the market where companies are offering huge rebates.
