  • @sukes58 God, it must be great to be so virtuous that you can offer up self-righteous moral lectures on a YouTube video.

  • @endora60 thats going in my top 5 insults

  • And that's a bad thing?

  • LOL I remember a year or so ago someone wrote a post on this that she was the dancer (scroll through them) - but Jessilu is right man...Be prepared of someone much older than 40!

  • lol try to imagine Snape in a hula skirt dancing to this song... waaay hilarious!

  • Great song....luv it

  • I love this song... if I had a band I'd cover it for sure!!!!!!

  • of course, this song is really good!

  • I'd say this is more Calypso sounding than reggae. It definitely has a latin/carribean sound to it. I love the steel drums. Great song all around.

  • Maybe you're right. I played in a Steel Drum band for about 10 years. I'd still be playing in the band if the original director had stayed on, and they hadn't gotten that new dominating jerk in for a director. We played all kinds of island music, from calypso to reggae to ska and others. I used to write arrange music for the band. If I had known this wonderful song at the time i was in the band, I would have arranged it for Steel Drums so our band could play it.

  • spy4863, that is so cool. I lived in the V.I. and I loved dancing to any Island band...Do you have any vids of you 'doing ya thang'?

  • V.I., that's the Virgin Islands, right? I don't personally have any videos of me playing the pans, but I do have some photographsburied somewhere in my collections (I thnk!). I also have an article about the band in one of my scrapebooks, buried somewhere in the back of my closet. Mostly what I have, though, is tape recordings of the band playing my Steel Band arrangements (Sorry, "Poppa Joe" is NOT among the songs I arranged for the band -I didn't know the song at the time! )

  • I LOVE this great Reggae song!! It's kind of out of style for The Sweet, but then again you have to do something a little different every once in a while to keep your act fresh and interesting. Besides, it's such a great song, and Sweet does such a great job of singing it, and they look like they're having such fun with it that I don't care if it's outv of style for them. And I think alot of other Sweet fans feel the same way.

  • Brain has the most beautiful hair ever

  • Your both idiots for spelling Brian as Brain!

  • And the way you write your "Your" is incorrect. It should be "You're" (as in 'You are').

  • My favourite song when i was 6 :)

  • In the midday sun

    They beat on their drums

When Poppa Joe comes to town (8)

Anybody remember the episode of 2 Point 4 Children where this song was used?

  • This is my favourite Sweet song. I also liked "Funny Funny" too.

  • me too, it was the first single i bought when i was really really really young

... what you do honey honey ...

  • I also like the steel drums.

  • This is great !!!!!!!!!!! To think that they still perform (but only the former basplayer is present now, the singer is already deceised)

  • Mick Tucker, the drummer, died a few years ago too.

  • great tune - my fave part is when the backing vocals kick in during the chorus and how the chorus goes even higher in alto high lighting the amazing vocal talents of the whole band

  • Yay I found "Poppa Joe"!!! What memories.....I was 11 too and I couldn't wait to rush into Sears after riding the escalators for a while and rummage through the 45's singles, talk my mom into letting me buy it and then buying this record for probably like .89 cents!! I loved this song and Little Willy!!!!!!!!!

  • I was a bit younger than 11, but I too was excited to do the Saturday shopping with my Mum at Greaterman's (sort of South Africa's version of Sears), where I'd beg and plead with Mum for the princely sum of 75 cents to buy my favourite record that week! I'd rifle through the bins, twitching with indecision, not knowing which one to buy. I bought a good half-dozen Sweet tunes on vinyl 45! One week I found a 1-rand coin on the pavement and was so excited to buy TWO records that week!
