Tom inspired me and a bunch of guys that think that can't get Women, i mean i am not that good looking but , after research and some "keep on trying something" iincluding working out , i realised that woman actually like to talk about them selfs and some humor mixed with soft tip of seduction...
It took months of furstration and being dumped several times, but once the button is on... it can never go off...
Watch Tyler Durden/Owen Cook clips on yt after that. Mackey character seems like a mix of Durden, Erik Markovik and Ross Jeffries.(I know that its chronologicaly impossible, but still...)
Why this man did NOT win an Oscar for his performance in this movie, evades me... really. No wonder he gave up after a while, this was his best performance.
For all the crazy in his real, personal life, Tom Cruise has got acting down. You really do forget he's "Tom Cruise" in some of his roles. Espescially Tropic Thunder, if you can watch that movie and not laugh at his humour, check your pulse.
This is easily one of the more philosophical-in-nature films of the 90's, it's a treat to dissect the individual stories and how they contribute to one of the larger morals: The dangers of ignoring the past and its influence on your person, whether it is the present or the future.
Meh, its not really that heavy handed when you watch the whole film...there's a lot more going on - these scenes kindof illustrate how not paying attention to the past can kindof snowball and affect the present.
That's what I thought, untill I read Neil Strauss The Game where he interviewed Tom Cruise who was upset that Ross said that because apparently, Magnolia director Paul Thomas Anderson and Cruise spent six months coming up with this character for this film. PTA got Oscar nominated for directing "There Will Be Blood" with Daniel-Day Lewis later on.
Watch the last scene again. The reporter is trying to dig shit from his past and instead of getting mad at her, he just look at her silently. When she is asking "what are you doing?" he replies "I am quietly judging you". Very Powerful.

I've read that Tom Cruise studied some of those guys to create this character. Ross Jeffries was the biggest inspiration I believe.

usually to be a good artist you have to be a little "crazy".
