You gotta love that oil... WE need gas not a clean earth bill, to hell with the planet I gotta get paid I own stock in oil, the more we burn oil and gas the richer I get. I'm tired of people complaining about oil spills, live with it and shut up, money is my life, and oil is our future.
All you liberal morons...Here is the TRUTH: The Exxon Valdez ship was really an offshore drilling well disguised as a ship. What you fools dont understand is: the reef floated near the well, and hit the pipes. So it sank and oil spilled out. Liberal morans! DRILL BABY DRILL!
I feel like history professors need to add "the 1980s" (and even the 1990s) to their course outlines; there is a lot to learn from that decade which is being exploited more than ever.
horrible stuff but by volume not the biggest in the us or the world. please stop making references from the bp spill to this one as if the bp one is on the top ten which it's not. the valdez spill is not near the top ten , what makes this spill bad was it's location and what it did to wildlife.
@circusboy90210 You're wrong. The BP spill is the worst spill in the USA. It is also, by volume, the tenth worst oil spill in the world. And that number is based on conservative estimates, as BP is not allowing scientists to determine the actual flow rate.
@progflea I have done the research and yes it's wikipedia, but this is good enough. no it's not the worst. it's not even close to the top ten. bp cannot control outside interests they don't own the ocean and the feds are intervening. bp had to ask permission to operate top kill, so it's not like they are operating autonomously. Anybody can do some pretty basic math and determine from certain key factors the actual flow rate. the science behind this is not new nor that comples. read a book or 2
@circus 90210 correct, during world war two thousands of tankers went to the bottom i think the damage would top any spill ever yet no one even mentions it why because it makes there own agenda seem meaningless.
@datzfast in pensylvania during the worlds first oil boom gasoline was literally worthless and pumped into creeks and rivers by the millions of gallons, you don't hear about the area being ravage for decades afterwards, there were areas where the oil was standing knee deep for years on end. this little spill is nothing. we are being indoctrinated to be less and less tolerant of the use of the worlds 2nd most plentifull liquid. oil is freedom electricity is control. oil= medicine and fertilizer
@circus 90210 your claim is that people have been brain washed . that's true i see that going on in children's programs. sad really. anyway this is a bad spill its already ruined a seafood harvest and beach lovers now avoid the coast like they could contract leprosy. Striking the horrible loss of human life and sinking of the driller, is that if the leak had been stopped the first day most people would not have even cared.
@gyro231995 main thing is when you are in charge of something you are responsible for the actions of your subordinates. this is a main reason most people do not want responsibility.
@circusboy90210 But you can't hardly be looking over everybody at every second. Yes, the captain should've made sure everyone was rested. But I have the U.S. Supreme Court saying that I'm right.
@gyro231995 as captain of a vessel regaurdless who or how many layers of "authority" you have over your position, you as an individual are responsible for the activity's and actions of everybody in or on the vessle. Yes he is only human and needs time to sleep and recreate, this does not make him less responsible. this is why chosing a crew is so important so you know what personality types you're dealing with and how they respond to different situations. So yes he is definatly responsible.
@circusboy90210 if the radar was not functioning the captain should have refused to move the vessle unitll it was fixed. there are mechanism for him to have reported the malfuntion and had a company crew come out within hours to fix that situation. the company owns more than one ship. there are probably technical people on every ship to make repairs. there is no excuse for the captain to have allowed this to happen. supreme court??they chase deep pockets. ultimatly the ceo is culprit. ;)
@gyro231995 they have about as much relevance as a fart in church... they told custard that he could not kick the indians off of their land and he said hey i've got guns what are you going to do about it??
@circusboy90210 They might not be a military force, but they have intellectual force. That is why they interpret federal laws. I beleive their intellect far surpasses that of you or I. Custard was just a gung-ho firebrand trying to impress a few Native-Americans.
@gyro231995 don't underestimate the common man's intellect. p.s. I"m very far from common I travel alot and talk to lots of people about many diverse subjects , many of the people I converse with are experts in their field of endeavor. being a judge on the supreme court is not alway because of merit but political connections. custard was not trying to impress the natives but to murder them and steal their land. being a judge does not make one morally correct.
@circusboy90210 Yes, but I speak with my friend who is an ad man and I too travel, but that doesn't add anything to this conversation. I'm not underestimating the common man's knowledge. I'm just saying that there's a reason that the justices are where they are, besides money…
… If we bring morals into this then I believe I'm right in saying that we will reach a deadlock. Back to this argument, what you're saying is that when a child is caught doing cheating on a test, do you put the child or his parent’s (his superiors) in detention.
@gyro231995 mostly has to do with political affiliation and connections has very little to do with being morally correct look how they treat our constitution. basis of crime hurting someone or their property what else is there to know. everything has basics. we tend to over complicate things to keep laypeople from being involved. the basis of lithography water and oil don't mix etc.. on the other end of the pendulum fundamentalism to it's extreme is not correct either.
Capt. Hazelwood's driver's license had been suspended or revoked three times by the state of New York for alcohol violations since 1984. At the time of the Exxon '89 Valdez incident, his New York state driving privileges were suspended as a result of a driving under the influence arrest on Sept 1988. - I was a USCG licensed passenger boat capt, urine tested for marijuana not alcoholism, which seems OK to overlook. Smoke that and think about whats wrong?
Do they not have a ship that has a bulldozing mechanism that can be attached to iT?
Then they could bulldoze rock sand/seafloor filler into the hole to fill it then if they need to add some kind of chemical agent that will hold it to compact the pressure you just need enough weight and environmentally friendly sealant.
NIKOLA TESLA could have saved us from this 100 yrs ago! please look it up, he created a wireless energy system that allowed energy to be obtained anywhere on earth! i put up info on my youtube and i demostrate a 20 ft wireless transmission to prove that the system works! we could build it right away and get off of this oil dependence, you can run cars wirelessly and never need oil again. please read tesla's "increasing human energy" it tells you all the reneable resource man can use safely!
This disaster is an orchestrated event. In fact, every disaster and/or tragedy (created by man) has been and/or will continue to be an orchestrated event. I got off the train a long, long time ago. Notice how it continues to worsen? lol.
@1983Jacko That's just like how driving cars harms the earth. Earth produced the gas and the materials to make the cars but it still harms us. It's just that we didn't use it properly that's why it harms the earth.
@tjtheplay I don't think it harms the earth, it harms us more. The earth has been through much more worse things than us. It was here before us and it will be here after, I guarantee you.
@1983Jacko What happens when were the earths cancer? We've become so big , so dominate , we effect every single species , and now thanks to haarp were fucking with the atmosphere which shields us. Show me one other species in history that is capable of what humans are doing today just one. Then you'll understand how humans can harm the earth . We are earths cancer and its final page. Earth tries to defend with deases but we override and continue . heance life expectancy ;)
@1983Jacko Well you're right it doesn't really harm the earth cause the earth will always be earth if it's a complate desert wasteland that can't support life or if it has perfect conditions to support it.
@DarkDragon187II Right on Buddy! Let's disregard the environment. That spill in the Gulf of Mexico totally kicks this one's ass, Go British Petroleum!
I've always wondered just how much oil is undiscovered in the crust, and now we can figure out
No collar around the rig site? the Government PUT OUT THE FIRE? which let the oil spread into a national disaster? an Obama 911 back to work plan?- Who is our government working for? clearly not USA. Governmental u tube sites block and edited American comments - Ban all block sites
Wake up - a planed failed? government at work in front of your eyes
i hate these retards that manage to spill millions of gallons of ANYTHING into the ocean. i mean, what retard was given the task of transporting millions of gallons of oil and fucked it up so bad that this kind of shit happened.
Where are all the oily DemoRepublicans? both parties hiding at? Why haven't they come to save the day? Why haven't they protected America from these greedy corporations that pay the bills for the rock star political elections? Why isn't the oily corporate media really reporting on this? They had no plan to contain something like this which they knew would very well eventually happen before and they don't have one now... the disaster has just begun!
@StaleMilk5 um dude. ya i know the worlld is going into chaos and shit but 2012 isn't real. get this, its 2012 (basically 2112), the date is december 21 (1221) and the time they said is 12:21 (self explanitory) 2012 isn't real, world chaos is but not that exact date.
@Xleptix thank you for those wise words joe the plumber trailer trash red neck you just thought of saying while you were doing your sister?? please don't have any kids with here PLEASE you dumb ass hillbilly
@Xleptix big bad man, you sissy why are you watching male body building video's you really like looking at oily, half naked men huh?? aren't you worried about the republicans finding out your gay?? republicans don't like gay people TILL THEY WANT TO SLEEP WITH ONE behind close doors fuck you queenie
@Xleptix you red neck little bitch I don't like watermellon but I got something good for your sister and it's a lot better than that hillbilly loving you been giving her ,or have you moved up to mom yet? you inbreed skinhead tell hitler hello for me bitch
conservatives like to make up funny names like "libtards" and "tree huggers" but never really point out which of the ideological points of a liberal attitude are actually harmful or distasteful. they just invent a silly label and then attack the label. that's called false targeting by psychologists.
@planet darwin very well lets take the comment above yours. quote they should shoot the ship driver. promotion of premeditated murder that's my problem. would that fit under a crime in and of itself. quite harmful and visually distasteful.
(off topic) Jacque Fresco- Search for Venus Project & Zeitgeist Movement! Beyond Poverty, Politics, Crime & War. A world w/out Money, is it even possible? Stop the Greed w/in the Government ! (Links are in my page!!) Act Now before it's to late !!!
Let's just use it all up and get it over with. Then when there's absolutely no oil left we won't have to debate it anymore; we'll just have to stop being obese and lazy, get out the bikes & horses, and become part of the ecological world again. Drop oil prices to 50 cents a gallon. Build vehicles that get 1 mile per gallon. Use it up. Let's go.
@planetdarwin You should do research on the pollution cause by piles and piles horse manure, and the filth it created. There was actually a special on ABC that talked about many of the environmental myths.
The difference is that you can spread manure on a field and fertilize crops with it. If too much manure were our biggest problem, we'd be in utopia. When's the last time you saw one country invade/bomb/pillage another over horse manure? False analogy is false.
VOLUNTEERS - DIY clean up on or off shore. 16 oz. OF FEATHERS (or 1 feather pillow) WILL SOAK UP 1 GALLON OF OIL. this can be done prior to the oil reaching shore. Feathers can also be used in the marshes. Chemical dispersants are not the answer.
@ZaraArthurJames yeah i agree..humanity wants it..so they drill it. Governments put the demand for cars. We accept it. Then we need oil for it. So its basically all our fault for falling into all the traps. Whatever they put on media..we have the desire to get it. Most of it all affects the environment. We must stop trusting the media. We must use common sense and trust our hearts and do whats right for the EARTH.
@MidwestMex@MidwestMex Agree Capt. Joe Hazelwood was an obvious drunk hired by Exxon allowed to dump his oil after collision. His punishment was $50k and 1,000 hrs community service. The CEO of Exxon then now makes $1.3m /yr. The EPA chief then, Bill Reilly, appointed by Obama to head investigation of the BP atrocity. There's no justice at all for our Ivy League global corporate gangsters.
Exxon and even the drunken asshole captain have evaded almost any punishment despite the catastrophic effects of this spill.
Exxon has refused any responsibility and after 1 billion appeals they were ordered to pay but a tenth of the original.
These people are scum of the earth, leaving scum in their wake all over the once pristine waters of Alaska. They should all be shot. Or more fittingly, cast into an oil pit and made to wallow in the filth they forced countless wildlife to endure.
@stevensw I dont think we should be just blaming Exxon or the captain or anyone who works there because we are the ones who want oil..we are the ones who use it for transport. One more thing..the drilling for oil already causes catastrophic effects. Oil is inside earth for a reason. Everything is there for a reason. Its like slowly taking blood out of your body. We should blame ourselves not the peopel who work for them.
I love the fact that we are okay with driving our cars and trucks and destroying the environment over a long time, but when we damage the environment in one swift actions, such as with an oil spill, we are so in-tune with the damage we are causing.
@mcweber1 I truly agree. Its not obama's fault or any other governments. Its humanities fault for demanding oil. Its humanities fault for not stepping up to the government and giving up all that is. The solution is giving up and returning to nature. It's to get out of this darn control..and stop all the injustice being done to mother earth. If we keep going on like this..it will eventually lead to us being killed by catastrophe's. Its all your choice. We must change.
@mcweber1 We are not okay with drivign our cars and trucks. thats all that our governments have allowed for us . We have technology for solar water air ietc powered cards but there nto available to public . SO please get your facts right . Our governments waste money on drilling for oil and wars , instead of actually producing this resusable safe technology for the mass public. Please no more trolling k thnx
@mcweber1 Well the problem is people don't believe it... yes these are the same people who voted for bush or the nuts who watch Alex Jones errr day lol.. talk about sheep holy fuck no bigger sheep out there then them.
heres something else, yes the communties were so bothered that thet refused exxons $1000 a day hire standby and held out 48hrs for $4000 a day yeah they really cared about their coastline
I had to study the exxon valdez diaster as part of my onscene commanders course ( MCA level 1,2,3,4,. Why doesn't anyone ever look into the governors and greenpeaces actions that let the spill get so large. yes exxons fault. yes they should pay but not for greenpeaces and the governors refusal to allow exxon to commence spill remediations until 3 days and then only for 20 mins in completely useless trial. 7 days 7days! until exxon could deploy
Greenpeace stopped the use of disperants until the 3rd day ( as everyone knows disperants are useless after the oil has degraded >24hrs ) I suggest you read up on the polictal manoveuring by the governor and greenpeace which caused the spill to become out of control . ( my job is oil spills, The situation could off been contained but for greenpeaces 'advice'
I grew up in one of the communities that was affected by the oil spill, Nanwalek/English Bay, and the wild life and shorelines still have NOT recovered from this nearly 2 decades old event. A way of of indigenous life was erased March 1989 by a obvious and cruel mistake. Exxon is still appealing the supreme court decision that was to pay $5 billion in damages to these people and communities...they made a $40 billion dollar profit last year!!! YOU CAN SPEAK UP AND HELP OUT...a hearing is comingUp
I was one of the tugboat captains. I have 16 hours of never before seen vidio on 8mm ... I guess its time to figure out how to digitize it so i can finally share these interesting vidios of the scene from the very beggining. D.S.
Exxon has kept this atrocity wrapped up in the courts for close to twenty years. Their goal was to scare anyone away from suing them in the future. Everything has gone as planned. Big business wins again in the United States of America.
Captain Hazelwood was the fall guy, that's all. It doesn't matter if he was drunk or not, this incident was completely preventable. If you want to read something really frightening about the maritime industry, google search: "Maritime Security by Bonesman322." It's all about how maritime capital interests are using the mafia to undermine organized labor.
Captain Hazelwood has been wrongfully treated ever since the the Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef. His 3rd Mate never called his presence to the bridge and never made the course change to return to the traffic lane. When the ship did run aground, Captain Hazelwood actually saved more damage from happening by running the ship further aground to prevent communication between the sea and the oil in the cargo tank. How do I know this . . . my professor was onboard at the time.
Apparently not, that was an excuse cooked up by Exxon to hide the fact that they hadnt installed the required radar equipment (cost cutting) and wanted to deflect the blame from themselves.
Exxon have continually lied to avoid paying damages. Disgraceful company. Their president Lee Raymond received a $400 million payoff on his retirement in 2006.
Me and some teatchers are making a documentarie about the ambiental situation, like the Al Gore's movie, but looking by a more philosofical side, so than i was searching scenes on youtube and saw your's movie, and would ask you to send for the e-mail j-o-a-h@hot... and help us. Thank you very much Joah
this disaster is the reason why I support offshore drilling...it is a virtually flawless way of extracting oil.

You guys, stop slaming the captain (he wasn't even at the helm, the third mate was). The supreme coure recognizes 4 reasons for the spill:
1.The Exxon shipping company failed to fix the ships sonar.
2.The third mate, who was piloting it, incorrectly steered it, possibly because of fatigue.
3.The Exxon shipping company didnt ensure that the crew was properly rested.
4.The U.S. Coast Guard failed to provide an adequate shipping lane.

There is no such thing as Global Warming, We're not polluting the earth in anyway.
That oil spill in the gulf is nothing. Those animals deserved it.
The earth can take more pollution than this, it can hang.

How about you turn into a fish or sea animal and chug some oil mixed with salt water and see how well you feel.

DarkDragon187II 1 year ago
@DarkDragon187II Obviously the earth can take more of it, it produced the oil, why would the oil harm it? It will harm us and other animals though.
1983Jacko 1 year ago
@1983Jacko That's just like how driving cars harms the earth. Earth produced the gas and the materials to make the cars but it still harms us. It's just that we didn't use it properly that's why it harms the earth.
tjtheplay 1 year ago
@tjtheplay I don't think it harms the earth, it harms us more. The earth has been through much more worse things than us. It was here before us and it will be here after, I guarantee you.

@1983Jacko What happens when were the earths cancer? We've become so big , so dominate , we effect every single species , and now thanks to haarp were fucking with the atmosphere which shields us. Show me one other species in history that is capable of what humans are doing today just one. Then you'll understand how humans can harm the earth . We are earths cancer and its final page. Earth tries to defend with deases but we override and continue . heance life expectancy ;)

conservatives like to make up funny names like "libtards" and "tree huggers" but never really point out which of the ideological points of a liberal attitude are actually harmful or distasteful. they just invent a silly label and then attack the label. that's called false targeting by psychologists.

Use it up. Let's go.
planetdarwin 1 year ago
@planetdarwin You should do research on the pollution cause by piles and piles horse manure, and the filth it created. There was actually a special on ABC that talked about many of the environmental myths.
ericblr 1 year ago
@ericblr

MidwestMex 2 years ago 6
@MidwestMex @MidwestMex Agree Capt.
1236bigcat 1 year ago
Exxon and even the drunken asshole captain have evaded almost any punishment despite the catastrophic effects of this spill.
Exxon has refused any responsibility and after 1 billion appeals they were ordered to pay but a tenth of the original.
These people are scum of the earth, leaving scum in their wake all over the once pristine waters of Alaska. They should all be shot. Or more fittingly, cast into an oil pit and made to wallow in the filth they forced countless wildlife to endure.
stevensw 2 years ago

@mcweber1 I think your words are echoing to the gulf spill.... Well said.
1aeromed 1 year ago
@mcweber1 I truly agree. Its not obama's fault or any other governments. Its humanities fault for demanding oil. Its humanities fault for not stepping up to the government and giving up all that is. The solution is giving up and returning to nature. It's to get out of this darn control..and stop all the injustice being done to mother earth. If we keep going on like this..it will eventually lead to us being killed by catastrophe's. Its all your choice. We must change.

Shitstirrer2000 3 years ago
hi oil spiil op here,
Greenpeace stopped the use of disperants until the 3rd day ( as everyone knows disperants are useless after the oil has degraded >24hrs ) I suggest you read up on the polictal manoveuring by the governor and greenpeace which caused the spill to become out of control . ( my job is oil spills, The situation could off been contained but for greenpeaces 'advice'
Shitstirrer2000 3 years ago
I grew up in one of the communities that was affected by the oil spill, Nanwalek/English Bay, and the wild life and shorelines still have NOT recovered from this nearly 2 decades old event. A way of of indigenous life was erased March 1989 by a obvious and cruel mistake. Exxon is still appealing the supreme court decision that was to pay $5 billion in damages to these people and communities...they made a $40 billion dollar profit last year!!! YOU CAN SPEAK UP AND HELP OUT...a hearing is comingUp

Captain Hazelwood was the fall guy, that's all. It doesn't matter if he was drunk or not, this incident was completely preventable.
