For me and I could well be wrong the real argument is who the islanders want to be a part of?
If they wanted independence or to become Argentine I and most of us would have no problems with true democracy in action.
However if these islanders want to be British and to remain on the Falklands as British soil any invasion should be treated as an invasion of mainland Britain and met with the full force of our armed forces.
It would be a act of war and a declaration should be made to that fact.
I have absolutely no problem with Thatcher basking in the glory of that victory, and taking the salute in the City.

@Halo4Lyf Hey Halo The UK has let its guard down no doubt but dont forget they have 4 typhoon fighters based on the Falklands possibly the best fighter aircraft in the world atm.Plus 2 subs and two ships from the royal navy and 1600 personel with air defence and Helicopters.Agentina have not rebuilt the air force enough to be a real threat and it would be a much tougher fight than in 1982 for them to even get near the Falklands.

It's built for long Antarctic missions sub sea work, custom duties and support for the British Antarctic Survey the same as HMS Endeavour was. It has light armament as does all ships of this type, it's painted red and white... the standard colour theme for this type of ship...it is on lease to the RN so the owners expect to have it returned...

In 1982, the US totally backed the UK after they admitted neither side would talk for peace. They gave the UK equipment and supplies as well as stopping weapons trade with them. The French gave us all the tech specs on the planes they had sold the Argies. They also offered up French piolts and craft to practise dog fighting with. For me and I could well be wrong the real argument is who the islanders want to be a part of?
If they wanted independence or to become Argentine I and most of us would have no problems with true democracy in action.
However if these islanders want to be British and to remain on the Falklands as British soil any invasion should be treated as an invasion of mainland Britain and met with the full force of our armed forces.
It would be a act of war and a declaration should be made to that fact.

Today the state of the art Typhoons, the Rapier and Star streak surface to air missiles the nuclear powered attack subs and the naval vessels like Edinburgh that is there after a £17.5 million refit and 1,000 highly trained and prepared troops will take any Argie force before it got to the islands...As they know...As we all know.

@Halo4Lyf Hey Halo The UK has let its guard down no doubt but dont forget they have 4 typhoon fighters based on the Falklands possibly the best fighter aircraft in the world atm.Plus 2 subs and two ships from the royal navy and 1600 personel with air defence and Helicopters.Agentina have not rebuilt the air force enough to be a real threat and it would be a much tougher fight than in 1982 for them to even get near the Falklands.

It's built for long Antarctic missions sub sea work, custom duties and support for the British Antarctic Survey the same as HMS Endeavour was. It has light armament as does all ships of this type, it's painted red and white... the standard colour theme for this type of ship...it is on lease to the RN so the owners expect to have it returned...

The exact name is HMS_Protector (A173). It is actually a Norweigian research and ship called Polarbjørn. The Royal Navy is using it for the British Antarctic Survey. US and European nationals would die.Mainland Europe including Southern Ireland would suffer fallout.

Argentina has a murder rate SIX TIMES HIGHER than the UK, over 3 million homeless, over a million slums and a HIV rate that dwarfs the UK rates. Argentina has a far worse credit rating we have THE top one. We have a far , far more modern ad deadly armed forces and of course WE HAVE THE FALKLAND ISLANDS.

Most of the ex British colonies were the most prosperous and stable ex colonies in the world when the British left - and apartheid was introduced in South Africa after the British left.
The point made was that the descendants of colonials in argentina, who continued colonising and stealing native land after the Spanish left, are not in a position to pontificate about colonialism.
Shouldn't you be whining about French Guiana next door to Brazil.
