  • Wow, great job!

  • Fantastic job! Great playing and singing, with such sensitivity and subtlety. I'm wondering what your interpretation of the lyrics are... I just picked up this piece and am learning it myself. Anyone have any insight into the meaning? I may be off, but it sounds like a confession that the singer is dying, perhaps of some terminal disease... anyone else have ideas...?

  • @superheroman04 i've been learning this piece right now and what my voice teacher and i kinda saw was something along the lines that the singer doesn't feel the same love for their boyfriend/girlfriend and they realize it now, basically they're asking would it be better if they told their bf/gf that fact now and deal with the hurt, or not tell them and pretend that everything is fine, even when it's not-but that's just our intepretation

  • Simply AMAZING

  • WOW!!!

  • Hey Scott ,

Congratulations on great singing and playing .

A joy to listen to .

You have a bright future !

    JP

  • This is gorgeous. What a talent. I can't sing and play piano at the same time without screwing them both up. One or the other! Massive kudos. Beautiful voice.

  • This is the best singing and pianowork from a non-professional I have seen on youtube. Wonderful.

Is Scott Douglas performing anywere right now or in the future?

  • This is fabulous. I recently discovered JRB and I love his music. This performance was absolutely amazing.

  • I recently learned about this song, and I hadn't heard a recording of it. I've been playing it on the piano and trying to sing it myself, but it just doesn't sound right with a female voice.

I was blessed to run into this video. Thank you so much for posting it. Beautiful voice and beautiful music. Kudos to Scott for his vocals and piano, and thank you for sharing this beautiful song with everyone.

  • Glad you liked it, acbshada!

Did you use the version in the JRB Collection? Lauren Kennedy does it in a different key that works much better for the female voice than the one in the songbook.

  • What key does she do it in?

  • @intent2modulate It's the same key; It's D Major.

  • Beautiful. absolutely stunning!

  • great

  • I really liked it. You have a great voice and you are a great pianist.

    Bravo.

  • Thanks!

  • Wow..... I wish I had a recording of this for my mp3 player.

  • you can use audacity to record it, its free. I did it too with all the songs from this play. just google it up, and you'll find it.

  • actually a better way would be to use something like youtube downloader, and then use Total Video Converter to convert it into a wav file, and then use itunes to convert it to mp3. I tried using Total video converter to convert it straight to mp3, but my player didnt seem to be able to play it. you get better sound quality this way.

  • Thank you ellaquint for posting this. it just made my day. cheers to Scott Douglas

  • WOW

  • Beautiful work. It's so hard to sing and play piano at the same time, let alone with fantastic technique, and with a song as challenging as this one. Fantastic vibrato, expression and tone. Really great work.

  • I adore this song. So haunting...

  • Excellent, excellent job. Great performance.

  • Wow! What a beautiful voice!

  • you have no idea how much this song speaks to me right now... thank you

  • Sweet performance, you have a great voice and your vibrato is exactly how I think this should be sung - not overdone.

  • i want this recording on my ipod i can't stop listning to it!!!!!!!!!!! is there any way of doing that???????

  • cheers

  • and also what other songs are in the jrb collection?

  • The Old Red Hills Of Home; The Picture Show; It's Hard To Speak My Heart; All The Wasted Time

Just One Step; I'm Not Afraid Of Anything; Stars And The Moon; Hear My Song

Moving Too Fast; A Summer In Ohio; The Next Ten Minutes; See I'm Smiling

It Don't Get Better Than This; Mr. Hopalong Heartbreak

And I Will Follow; Dreaming, Wide Awake; Letting You Go

Getting Out; Grow Old With Me; I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You; Someone To Fall Back On; Nothing In Common; Coming Together

  • where can i get the sheet music for this?

  • The Jason Robert Brown Collection- you can get it on Amazon. There's a recording on a CD called Songs of Jason Robert Brown (sung by Lauren Kennedy)

  • yeh i listened to that and i didn't like her version

  • Hers I think is in A. I think it packs more of a punch in D, which is what you hear here. (Or maybe you're hearing a D-. You know, registrar humor.)

  • i take it its not from any jrb musical?

  • Nope, just a standalone song.

  • amazing!

  • I had never heard this song before.....it literally tore my heart out....wow!

  • I have seen so many people on YouTube making pitiful attempts to play OR sing Jason Robert Brown's music-- you do both incredibly. You have a lot to be proud of.

  • absolutely incredible. all i can say

  • i am weeping...you have a share a striking resemblance to JRB

  • brilliant.

I love how you really found the emotion behind the song. It`s beautiful.

  • Gorgeous! People like you make me wish I had stayed in piano lessons.

  • Scotlas- I commented about you earlier (check out "All the Wasted Time" but I wanted to make sure you know how incredible you are. It really takes a lot to play and sing. Also I know what it feels like to play the piano and disappear in the background but you really play a big part in all these incredible pieces. So thank you for sharing your brillian talents!

  • Great performance!

  • This is so beautiful!!! Thank you so much for posting it; Scott Douglas is so talented!

  • Grrrreat job.. one of my favorites ^.^

  • hey, you've got a friggin fantastic voice btw

  • Fantastic! Great, great voice!!!!!!!! =O

  • Relaxed vocals and piano: very exceptional. A pleasure to listen and see your enjoyment.

  • awesome, i can't believe i hadn't heard this song sooner; i got the piano pretty much down...now if only i could sing that F# full voice...argh

definetly like this performance the best out of the rest. Pianists, even if they can sing like you, rarely get the chance to shine, thats great!

  • Beautiful performance. You really use your talent well! Congratulations and keep going.

  • Wow what a voice

  • wow..I was just randomly searching JRB stuff...and came across your video. you have an amazing voice...and piano skills to match! I hadn't heard this song yet...and now I'm not sure I want to hear it by anyone else! nice work!

  • Hey, thanks. This is one of the few JRB songs that I will attempt to play AND sing in public, so I'm glad you like it.

  • Brilliant!

  • I loved it Scott! How about sending me a CD?

  • jennasizzle, this is from the Lauren Kennedy CD "Songs of Jason Robert Brown". The sheet music is available in "The Jason Robert Brown Collection" (you can get the CD and book at Amazon.com).

  • is this from a show or his CD?

  • Yikes on the (quiet) high F#'s. Maybe I'll work on those a little more.

  • Hey, Scott. I just typed "Jason Robert Brown" into the search and this came up and I'm so glad to have found it.

Excellent performance. I can say it holds a candle of JRB's performance of this song at a Toronto concert.

Hope to hear more in the future.

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • Uh, not so much yikes. But it doesn't matter because that F# at the end was brilliant. You know, "If I told you now that we're never really safe..." I mean, of course you know the one.

  • Yes, practice makes perfect. Nevertheless, high quality that is already there, SMTP. <That clue should tell you who this is.

  • Oh, they sounded fine XD It's so hard on any instrument that requires breathing technique to reach high notes quietly... I'll always hate composers who wite a top G for flute pianissimo... seriously, though, it sounded fine.

  • Awesome, Scott! Looks like your sister posted one, too... ;)

  • Excellent. How can I get more of this guy's music?

  • Message me with your email and I'll put you on my mailing list!
