Walt Disney once met my mom by accident, when the typerwriter carriage my mom was typing on, came back and hit him, because he was standing too close.
Well you can imagine how flustered my mom was, and she was " I 'm sorry Mr Disney, Please Forgive me Mr. Disney, " and so on, finally he stopped my mom and said, " Not Mr. Just Walt ", I tell you, I never met him, but that speaks volumes of just how down to earth he was.
I did get to be the Brakeman on Ward Kimball's Nevada back in the 80's for its long awakening at Grizzly Flats. The Chloe was running as well. What a day!
Your dad was very lucky to have had a ride on Walt's backyard railway, Iv'e been on the railroad at Walt Disney World, which was great fun and I love steam trains just like Walt.
One of the old engines with its set of passenger cars that ran at Disney World are presently being restored. Walt would be so happy to see their rebirth. Railroad track is being layed for them to run on when they have been completed.
My dad rode on Walt Disney's backyard train with Walt himself! My dad had gone with my grandma to visit someone at Walt's house, and my dad was a kid, so he had nothin to do. Walt (who my dad didnt even know who he was), saw my dad and ask if he wanted to ride on his train. He took him outside and my dad got to ride the train like the kids in this video! And he didnt even know it was WALT DISNEY!!! this is a cool vid btw
A bit of trivia: If you were at Disneyland in the late '50's or early '60's, you may have been on a train driven by Walt himself. We would often dress in his engineer's outift in the little apartment on Main Street and pull the cap down low to dart over to the train station. The next train to come in, he would tap the engineer on the shoulder and say, "You're on break." He'd run the train for a few times around to unwind.
@jtkirkfan2002 Thanks for the trivia, I've only been to Walt Disney World but one of the highlights of that trip, was the train ride around the Magic Kingdom, so I just had to make this tribute .
@ubdisani If you really want to know more about Walt and his love for railroading, check out the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society. (carolwood (dot) com). It was founded by Michael Broogie, son of the late Roger Broogie, Disney Imagineer and namesake of WDW's engine number 3.
its amazing to know that all of disney would of never become to what it is today without trains! no hannah montana and all that! His american sure pulled a load!
Would have given anything to be able to see walts railroad in person and meet the man behind it. I am an advid 7.5 gauge railroader/modeler and a sheriff deputy by trait. My dream is to be able to make it to disney world and do the shop tour of his trains.
hey i looked up the address of the site of waltdisneys home and today i dont know if im right but it shows a huge mansion at the location

I had no idea Walt was such a train fan. Now I know I'm in good company when I fire up my little live steamer!

@Shipwright1918 Many people who knew him say that the reason he built Disneyland was so he could have a bigger train set.

Nice compilation! I even recognized my own (wiki) sketch of Walt's track...
I've got a lot of 7-1/4" gauge videos on my YouTube page, including one of Ollie Johnston's train, shot in 1993.

The Steam Train tour at the Magic Kingdom is a must. Doesn't matter what scale of steam you enjoy, you'll love it.
