I live in texas in we have a very lax set of laws... anything older than a certain age... don't care what you do... newer cars though can ONLY be swapped with same age or newer engines.

@peaceboyrx8 putting a 13b from previous generations in a RX-8 is illegal. Just like swapping a 302 in a current gen Mustang is illegal. Emissions cannot be increased due to this swap. I know for a fact the older 13b has an increase in emissions.

I haven't checked this in ages. The loud engine noise wasn't me taking over, it was a car in the water pit behind where the camera person was. You can hear at the end my shifting sucked.
But, this was one of the first turbos that came out for the 8.. and it was one of the first main ECU upgrades.
@Acclaim99 its not a weak engine but a quite a heavy car because mazda wanted to sell to a wide audience(four doors four seats)..mazda aproach to rx8 is completely different from rx7..mazda sacrificed hardcore perfomance to a more friendly smoother ride and practical sports car. its still has descent perfomance in a straight line and superb handling cornering.. rx8 is a really special car and a drivers car..also has potential of being very fast if turboed or supercharged right..
on the tv show top gear the Rx8 was way faster around there track than a mustang. it ran the same lap time as a BMW M3 and a 350Z with the stig driving.

I like how everyone is bashing on each other. @littleRayRay306 made a good point about an rx8 on the Nurburgring, but everyone has to realize these cars are built for two different styles of performance. YES a mustang GT takes an RX8 at a quarter mile, but being a pony car, and a form of a muscle car, thats what it is built/geared for. The RX8 is not a quartermile car but performs VERY well around twists turns and bends. I have experienced and driven both. btw I am an AMERICAN and not an ASS.
I am a HUGE american muscle fan. i grew up around those cars and everything, i live on a farm, drive a big pickup truck, but i love RX8s.they must be the most fun car to drive. i would love to own one. I don't understand how you could hate a car because of what country its make comes from

an rx8 isnt made for drag racing. all you idiots sayin oh thats slow. its nearly impossible to lose control of a rx8. it has by far the best handling than any other car that ive driven. and idk what kind of turbo this rx8 has. with my stock rx8. i got 14.7

I don't know of any honda with a rotary engine. Not unless the owner installed it themselves. I know that Mazda sold the rights to ford only under the terms that ford would have to design their own version but they failed utterly at it. I would rather go with an RX-8 rather than the 7. The 8 will last longer as long as you understand how to take care of a rotary engine. Not only that you can mod it out and make it hella fast

The reason I dislike muscles is because most of the people that own it talks like they know everything there is to know about cars and make a big deal out of it. I mean Cameros and Mustangs look alright, but the people that own it make it look like their cars are the best and other cars suck.
I actually like the look of the RX8 but I take my 2006 GT over that anyday...havent had a single issue with it, has true over 300 hp's and does exactly what its suppose to...and since mine looks like a GT500 with 18"svt wheels and other trimmings...it gets looks everywhere it goes...RX8's dont even close in popularity and style, I know its hard to swallow but muscle cars are icons and perticularly the mustang.

muscle's pretty badass on the straight yeah, GTO's got that one down... and you're right, mustangs are pretty horrible for only getting 300 with a v8... but for all around performance, corners, tuning, and reliability the japs take the gold.

I was reading up on them and they have a skidpad of .92 G. that is pretty dam good.... but there is an import that will always have a place in my heart... a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4... on the other hand, i own a 2002 suburu wrx with 95k miles and plenty of mods... my father owns a stock 2006 ford cobra with 70k miles. while i'm getting to where i need to go, producing around 295hp and enjoying my 15lbs of boost. he's at home working on his precious muscle car. yes he can beat me in a race, but at the end of the day i'm the one who comes home with a smile on my face because i haven't had a problem since i purchased her in 05

Mustangs are fast, fun to drive cars, I've owned 3 of them. They're legendary and an icon for many generations. But a new Subaru WRX STI is a BETTER CAR in every respect. It accelerates, handles, and brakes better. You can drive it fast in any weather, whereas a mustang struggles in rain and snow (lots of snow and cold weather where I live.)

But you have to take into account that the mustang is cheaper, looks so unique, and lighter. The new camaro pushing 426 horses has a .5 second better quarter mile time. Where as the more cost-efficient Mustang GT is only pushing 315. They're both great cars though..
its the working mans muscle car and I wouldnt have it any other way, also easily one of the most recognizable cars on the planet...since the 60's it hasnt skipped a beat unlike camaros and most of these imports, suddenly because people have a rotary 4 cylinder turbo they think they can hang and deserve as much respect as a mustang? deal with what you have...just because a handful of idiots pay more for a slower car RX8, doesnt mean most people will choose a mustang over it 8 out of 10 times.
Actually, my RX-8 smokes Mustangs all the time, but it's not fair to compare these two cars as they are completely different. One is a more of a muscle-car, the other is a light, sleek, well-balanced sports car. Totally different markets.

@littleRayRay306 rx-8s handle good, but even you have to admit they are underpowered. the cornering comes from their suspension and brakes, not their motor.
i'd have to say your wrong, a huge reason why the rx-8 handles so well is because of the engine. Its light, and tiny. that means overall lower weight and they can push the engine closer to the center of the car. just sayin.
@bluecrushyou its about the same size as a 4cy, 1.3 means nothing, its the outside physical dimentions of the engine that determine how big it is in relationship to its weight and weight distribution. chevy 305 and 400 are the same outter dimensionally, yet the 400 has a larger bore and stroke, but its not a bigger motor. the 396 is much larger than the 400. it has alot to do with it, but if it was replaced with a turbo 4 cylinder, there wouldnt be a noticable change in handling.
@bluecrushyou 1.3 means nothing. Rotaries arent the same as piston motors, it may only be a 1.3 but its the same size as a 4cy. besides, who cares, its a 3200 pound car with only 232 at the flywheel, they make about 170 rwhp...weak. I dont care if its a 1.3, id rather have a 6.0 making 400hp than a 1.3 making 200hp, way more potential in a 6.0. I havent seen a streetable renesis making over 350hp.

@firechicken76 i got mine down to about 3000 and its guttless down low but its a rocket after about 5k rpm. a base model vette couldnt get away from me and those are known to not die in the top end. i think the trannies suck balls but the engine is pretty good i think people just have it in there head that the 8 was suppose to take over for the 7 and that was never mazda's idea. with only rims and a high flow cat ill get mid 14's in the quarter. last time i ran my tranny was acting up.
@firechicken76 thats funny i never knew a base model c5 vette ran in the 12's. and i know a 400hp mustang that beat a 980hp drag car in top end acceleration. the mustang is a 12 sec car and the drag car is an 8 sec car. so if you know little to nothing about cars and what they can do please refrain from commenting.
@xbartosx You said base model vette, i assumed (since you didnt specify) that it was a c6, which is a mid 12 sec car, c5 base is about a 13.0. lets see proof of your 980hp drag car losing to a 400 hp mustang. if it did, it was probably a bracket race, and the mustang left 4 sec earlier than the "drag car". without proof I call BS. and I also call bs on you hanging with a c5, because I tried it when I had my 8, didnt go so well, and that was an auto, base model c5. sounds like you dont know crap.
@firechicken76 i never new you raced top end at a drag strip. he raced him from a roll. thats how you judge top end difference. when i say drag car its cause i forget which one of the like 6 cars it was. the WS6 ran 11.1 i remember that they were all N/A gm engines. the 980hp car was kind of cheap cause the guy relied on his launch to break into the 8's. it just shows the difference of N/A vs FI. FI has a lot of top end where N/A is all down low usually.
@xbartosx now i know you dont know shit, you say forced induction is better at top end? doesnt that depend on the type of forced induction? a roots supercharger is going to have better low rpm torque than a procharger, a small turbo will have better low end than a bigger turbo. Bracket racing, cars take off at different times to make up for which one is has a faster time, so it will be even at the top end of the track. and I dont care what you say about how much he relied on his launch, stil 8's
@firechicken76 i also never said my car was fast. the big clue on that was i said i run mid 14's. thats a pretty slow car. i know bracket racing thats what i have to run in cause my car is slow. also if you want to know if a car has good top end/ 3rd gear + acceleration look at trap speeds. my first run ever was 16.1 at 89.6mph. so when you actually run on the track a few times lets talk. till then bye.

What mods do you have? intake and exhaust? lol. you may have gained 15 rwhp from that. stock rx8's only dyno about 160-180 to the tires stock. stock ls1 corvettes make about 320 rwhp, and guess what, they weigh the same as your car. also take into consideration they top out around 170, and you top out at what 155?, thats a pretty big difference. your claiming 110mh trap speeds with a bolt on 8? @xbartosx its called exaggerating to prove a point. the geo was to show how heavy the rx8 is for only having a 1.3, and since you think you trap 110 now, there is no reason dropping 50 pounds off your car wouldnt put you in the 10's right? maybe you could take the hood, doors, and trunk off too! I dont care if you had a bullet proof tranny, you still would be a good 10 mph away from 110 trap....and that is allot of speed to make up.

@xbartosx I dont get the point you are trying to make. You can make up for the crappy ending by taking weight off the car? most cars with engines that small are geo's and weigh like 1800 pounds, the rx8 is a fatass with a weak motor, plain and simple, im sure if you completely gutted it, and put a turbo on it, it would be decently fast, but they would just get destroyed by a stock ls1, ls2, ls6 etc. these cars dont respond well to mods, and they belong on road coarses, not Drag strips.
@firechicken76 you also say NA is all down low, that is a crock of crap too. ls1, big cam, 400+ rwhp, made at higher rpm's. it depends on how the engine is built, some will build it to have more power under the curve, and some people want high hp numbers. There is no way a 12 car will pull on an 8 second car, especially when both are rolling, unless one was lying about their times or hp numbers. quit making shit up to prove your point, you dont know shit and you drive a slow ass car.

FI always get a constant air flow N/A tends to lose air flow as they go faster so it runs richer and loses power. also the funny part is roots style blowers hit peak boost later then most turbo and centrifugal superchargers, not procharger thats a name brand, so a roots and twin screw can have less low end tq then the other 2.
@littleRayRay306 99% of people with these cars will never go to a "REAL" race track, that takes allot of skill. The large majority of these people will attempt to drag race them, y? because it takes less skill and drag strips are much more abundant than road coarses. The problem is, these cars were not designed for dragging, but people will do it anyway, so they should probably expect some ridicule when they do take them to drag strips. the engines just dont respond well to mods.

Everyone knows the 8 will out handle a stock gt. although the mustang has a lot of potential to grow. more then the rotary on the 8. I respect the 8 but if it wasnt for forced induction, big blocks would still be popular. Technology is great but lets face it, either car can be modded to be faster than the other. no matter what motor or car you have. it is all about the wallet size MOST of the time

Completely different cars. Mustang is built for straight line speed. 8 is built for good handling. Idk what you guys are saying, 8's have plenty of power. 0-60= exact same as 350Z. They're both 5.8 seconds.
Stop arguing guys. I think it was Car and Driver who compared a Mustang GT, 350Z, and RX8. While the RX8 had the best brakes and feel of the group, it was voted 3rd. It turns in GREAT, but its lack of power can't push its exit speed as high as the Mustang or Z. And Mustang's handle fine. People buy into a Corolla hitting 10's but they think its physically impossible for a Mustang to take a corner fast. It doesn't handle like an STi, but it handles good enough for what it is.

I havent had any trouble keeping up in the corners i.e mountains in my rotor and its over 20yrs old (rebuilt motor)
It looked like they drove the car pretty well. They noted you had to keep the revs up to get any power from the RX8. While they did keep the revs up, they also kept the revs up in the Mustang GT and 350Z, which gave the two a better pull through the exit. Their track uses mostly sweeping turns, not hairpins like you find in the mountains where the RX8 might have an advantage. Which rotary engine are you using?
Not sure that mine is the 6 port as mine is turbo charged and I was of the impression that the 6 port was more of a torque generator for the N/A models, although I may be mistaken.
Pretty sure its a 6-port. The FD RX7 had a 6-port rotary, but the ports weren't positioned for optimal heat extraction like on the 13B Renesis (RX8).
I was thinking about turbocharging my RX8. The apex seals in the 13B are a lot stronger than any found in the RX7 and have been able to withstand 414 rwhp to date. Not after that kind of crazy power, but even the cheapest and under-sized GReddy turbo can make 280 rwhp =)
sounds like a good plan Dont worry about the seals to much. the factory seals on later 13B models have been found to handle heaps of power, more than you would think.
I cant afford an RX8 but I love my FC. Been 10mths since I last drove it (long story) and miss it.

Yeah, give me a break. I don't. My 89 Rex is an NA model, non turbo. It handles well, but obviously only has 160hp. I've beaten my fair share of muscle at the local raceways before they closed the tracks around here.
I don't discredit muscle cars. I give them credit for what they are, muscle. That track you just linked is wide, not tight at all, and he still ended up in the dirt. Don't get me wrong, I like a big V8 with the supercharger whining while it runs mid 8s. I like it, but I like cars that handle better first.
I can only make a rough guess that car was going like 60+mph in the sharper turns 75+mph in the wider ones looking at how he's passing the white lines.
That cars handling capabilities greatly exceed that of a standard car.
Heh well I don't know if he was going 60-70 but even if he was there are a lot of imports that could take that faster, without modification. This is an argument you simply can't win. They're heavy, boxy, wobbly cars. When their weight transfers, they kick out and fishtail. I've driven old muscle, and they are for straight line speed, and they are good at it.

@peaceboyrx8 putting a 13b from previous generations in a RX-8 is illegal. Just like swapping a 302 in a current gen Mustang is illegal. Emissions cannot be increased due to this swap. I know for a fact the older 13b has an increase in emissions.

I haven't checked this in ages. The loud engine noise wasn't me taking over, it was a car in the water pit behind where the camera person was. You can hear at the end my shifting sucked.
But, this was one of the first turbos that came out for the 8.. and it was one of the first main ECU upgrades.
The Renesis was just a really weak engine...

I like how everyone is bashing on each other. @littleRayRay306 made a good point about an rx8 on the Nurburgring, but everyone has to realize these cars are built for two different styles of performance. YES a mustang GT takes an RX8 at a quarter mile, but being a pony car, and a form of a muscle car, thats what it is built/geared for. The RX8 is not a quartermile car but performs VERY well around twists turns and bends. I have experienced and driven both. btw I am an AMERICAN and not an ASS.

I don't know of any honda with a rotary engine. Not unless the owner installed it themselves. I know that Mazda sold the rights to ford only under the terms that ford would have to design their own version but they failed utterly at it. I would rather go with an RX-8 rather than the 7. The 8 will last longer as long as you understand how to take care of a rotary engine. Not only that you can mod it out and make it hella fast

I actually like the look of the RX8 but I take my 2006 GT over that anyday...havent had a single issue with it, has true over 300 hp's and does exactly what its suppose to...and since mine looks like a GT500 with 18"svt wheels and other trimmings...it gets looks everywhere it goes...RX8's dont even close in popularity and style, I know its hard to swallow but muscle cars are icons and perticularly the mustang.

Mustangs are fast, fun to drive cars, I've owned 3 of them. They're legendary and an icon for many generations. But a new Subaru WRX STI is a BETTER CAR in every respect. It accelerates, handles, and brakes better. You can drive it fast in any weather, whereas a mustang struggles in rain and snow (lots of snow and cold weather where I live.)

But you have to take into account that the mustang is cheaper, looks so unique, and lighter. The new camaro pushing 426 horses has a .5 second better quarter mile time. Where as the more cost-efficient Mustang GT is only pushing 315. They're both great cars though..

Actually, my RX-8 smokes Mustangs all the time, but it's not fair to compare these two cars as they are completely different. One is a more of a muscle-car, the other is a light, sleek, well-balanced sports car. Totally different markets.

@bluecrushyou its about the same size as a 4cy, 1.3 means nothing, its the outside physical dimentions of the engine that determine how big it is in relationship to its weight and weight distribution. chevy 305 and 400 are the same outter dimensionally, yet the 400 has a larger bore and stroke, but its not a bigger motor. the 396 is much larger than the 400. it has alot to do with it, but if it was replaced with a turbo 4 cylinder, there wouldnt be a noticable change in handling.

Rotaries arent the same as piston motors, it may only be a 1.3 but its the same size as a 4cy. besides, who cares, its a 3200 pound car with only 232 at the flywheel, they make about 170 rwhp...weak. I dont care if its a 1.3, id rather have a 6.0 making 400hp than a 1.3 making 200hp, way more potential in a 6.0. I havent seen a streetable renesis making over 350hp.

@firechicken76 i got mine down to about 3000 and its guttless down low but its a rocket after about 5k rpm. a base model vette couldnt get away from me and those are known to not die in the top end. i think the trannies suck balls but the engine is pretty good i think people just have it in there head that the 8 was suppose to take over for the 7 and that was never mazda's idea. with only rims and a high flow cat ill get mid 14's in the quarter. last time i ran my tranny was acting up.

@firechicken76 i never new you raced top end at a drag strip. he raced him from a roll. thats how you judge top end difference. when i say drag car its cause i forget which one of the like 6 cars it was. the WS6 ran 11.1 i remember that they were all N/A gm engines. the 980hp car was kind of cheap cause the guy relied on his launch to break into the 8's. it just shows the difference of N/A vs FI. FI has a lot of top end where N/A is all down low usually.

@xbartosx now i know you dont know shit, you say forced induction is better at top end? doesnt that depend on the type of forced induction? a roots supercharger is going to have better low rpm torque than a procharger, a small turbo will have better low end than a bigger turbo. Bracket racing, cars take off at different times to make up for which one is has a faster time, so it will be even at the top end of the track. and I dont care what you say about how much he relied on his launch, stil 8's

What mods do you have? intake and exhaust? lol. you may have gained 15 rwhp from that. stock rx8's only dyno about 160-180 to the tires stock. stock ls1 corvettes make about 320 rwhp, and guess what, they weigh the same as your car. also take into consideration they top out around 170, and you top out at what 155?, thats a pretty big difference. your claiming 110mh trap speeds with a bolt on 8? Nut up or shut up

@firechicken76 its funny cause ive seen many threads on rx8club bitching that no one is running factory times stock. i figured you would have an idea of my mods when i said i did weight reduction. my second gear is having trouble going in like a lot of other rx8s do. so i cant slam gears cause of the glass tranny. i can probably hit 13's if the tranny was better. sorry i dont have my time slips from 4-5 months ago. i just remember my time and trap speed.

@firechicken76 ok fine im not. i clearly have nothing better to do then make shit up on here. the thread proved my point on the tranny. so clearly i accelerate fast just the tranny holds my times back. my car doesnt start to die out till like 130. which you should know from having an rx8 that they typically fall on there face at 110ish. if you dont believe me fine. im sorry your car sucked i have yet to find someone on the forum with the same mods as me. best investmeant for an 8 is drivetrain.

@xbartosx yea, I know about the 8, and how they fall on their face at that speed, I also know, they dont pull too hard up to that speed, i could see if you have never driven anything fast before, that would make the 8 feel like a rocket. I tried hanging with a vette when i had mine, 60mph pull, and it blew me away. as far as your tranny goes, dont make excuses, its not keeping you from running 10's lol. I went through 2 transmissions in mine, i know they suck at drag racing, wheel hop like crazy

@xbartosx its called exaggerating to prove a point. the geo was to show how heavy the rx8 is for only having a 1.3, and since you think you trap 110 now, there is no reason dropping 50 pounds off your car wouldnt put you in the 10's right? maybe you could take the hood, doors, and trunk off too! I dont care if you had a bullet proof tranny, you still would be a good 10 mph away from 110 trap....and that is allot of speed to make up.

@xbartosx I dont get the point you are trying to make. You can make up for the crappy ending by taking weight off the car? most cars with engines that small are geo's and weigh like 1800 pounds, the rx8 is a fatass with a weak motor, plain and simple, im sure if you completely gutted it, and put a turbo on it, it would be decently fast, but they would just get destroyed by a stock ls1, ls2, ls6 etc. these cars dont respond well to mods, and they belong on road coarses, not Drag strips.

@firechicken76 you also say NA is all down low, that is a crock of crap too. ls1, big cam, 400+ rwhp, made at higher rpm's. it depends on how the engine is built, some will build it to have more power under the curve, and some people want high hp numbers. There is no way a 12 car will pull on an 8 second car, especially when both are rolling, unless one was lying about their times or hp numbers. quit making shit up to prove your point, you dont know shit and you drive a slow ass car.

FI always get a constant air flow N/A tends to lose air flow as they go faster so it runs richer and loses power. also the funny part is roots style blowers hit peak boost later then most turbo and centrifugal superchargers, not procharger thats a name brand, so a roots and twin screw can have less low end tq then the other 2.

@littleRayRay306 99% of people with these cars will never go to a "REAL" race track, that takes allot of skill. The large majority of these people will attempt to drag race them, y? because it takes less skill and drag strips are much more abundant than road coarses. The problem is, these cars were not designed for dragging, but people will do it anyway, so they should probably expect some ridicule when they do take them to drag strips. the engines just dont respond well to mods.

Everyone knows the 8 will out handle a stock gt. although the mustang has a lot of potential to grow. more then the rotary on the 8. I respect the 8 but if it wasnt for forced induction, big blocks would still be popular. Technology is great but lets face it, either car can be modded to be faster than the other. no matter what motor or car you have. it is all about the wallet size MOST of the time

Completely different cars. Mustang is built for straight line speed. 8 is built for good handling. Idk what you guys are saying, 8's have plenty of power. 0-60= exact same as 350Z. They're both 5.8 seconds.

Stop arguing guys. I think it was Car and Driver who compared a Mustang GT, 350Z, and RX8. While the RX8 had the best brakes and feel of the group, it was voted 3rd. It turns in GREAT, but its lack of power can't push its exit speed as high as the Mustang or Z. And Mustang's handle fine. People buy into a Corolla hitting 10's but they think its physically impossible for a Mustang to take a corner fast. It doesn't handle like an STi, but it handles good enough for what it is.

If you are qouting an article it seems to imply that they are trying to drive it
(in the corners) like a normal car. Keep the rrevs up & go like stink Due to the weight differences, both amount & balance, between the two and the fact they cut a pretty even time in a straight line.
I havent had any trouble keeping up in the corners i.e mountains in my rotor and its over 20yrs old (rebuilt motor)

It looked like they drove the car pretty well. They noted you had to keep the revs up to get any power from the RX8. While they did keep the revs up, they also kept the revs up in the Mustang GT and 350Z, which gave the two a better pull through the exit. Their track uses mostly sweeping turns, not hairpins like you find in the mountains where the RX8 might have an advantage. Which rotary engine are you using?

Not sure that mine is the 6 port as mine is turbo charged and I was of the impression that the 6 port was more of a torque generator for the N/A models, although I may be mistaken.

Pretty sure its a 6-port. The FD RX7 had a 6-port rotary, but the ports weren't positioned for optimal heat extraction like on the 13B Renesis (RX8).
I was thinking about turbocharging my RX8. The apex seals in the 13B are a lot stronger than any found in the RX7 and have been able to withstand 414 rwhp to date. Not after that kind of crazy power, but even the cheapest and under-sized GReddy turbo can make 280 rwhp =)

sounds like a good plan Dont worry about the seals to much. the factory seals on later 13B models have been found to handle heaps of power, more than you would think.
I cant afford an RX8 but I love my FC. Been 10mths since I last drove it (long story) and miss it.

Yeah, give me a break. I don't. My 89 Rex is an NA model, non turbo. It handles well, but obviously only has 160hp. I've beaten my fair share of muscle at the local raceways before they closed the tracks around here.

I can only make a rough guess that car was going like 60+mph in the sharper turns 75+mph in the wider ones looking at how he's passing the white lines.
That cars handling capabilities greatly exceed that of a standard car.

Heh well I don't know if he was going 60-70 but even if he was there are a lot of imports that could take that faster, without modification. This is an argument you simply can't win. They're heavy, boxy, wobbly cars. When their weight transfers, they kick out and fishtail. I've driven old muscle, and they are for straight line speed, and they are good at it.
