  • you can find the sheet music from Kathy Armstrong's arrangement "Songs of Gahu" through Boosey and Hawkes (although the sheet music is just a guide)

  • this birngs me back memories when i done this for a festival nd it was perfect wen we were practising but then at the real thing it was a disaster

  • I know a different version of this song :D

its alot more different, but its cool :D

  • Gahu ee~

E Gahu e do gbe nami lo ho~

    If I'm not mistaken?

  • There is no E at the beginning. But thats all!!! :-)

  • We also learned the singing part. lol

  • We learned all the instrumental parts of this and the dance in my music class in 7th grd. :D

  • My school is doing this one, but we're doing it a bit differently. But then again, no one performs the same peice the same way, for African Drumming.

  • This is beautiful music. Is Gahu the name of this song? Or is that the type of music?

  • what would Alfred say ha ha :-)

  • Im siging this in music class right now!!!

hahahahahha coool! they sing it a lil bit diff though.

  • I know this song. I remember singing this when I was a kid! This sure brings back memories!!!

  • Ah! Airplanes!!!

  • Airplanes?

  • Gahu means "metal bird" if I'm not mistaken. The dance was said to be established after a tribe saw a plane flying.

  • 'Ga' means metal in Ewe-Fon and 'hu(n)' means vehicle or drum. Another gloss I have seen published is that 'aga' means air in Gun, a related language to Fon and 'hun'=vehicle. Most Ewe people would gloss it the first way, however, and I cannot verify the second gloss as I do not speak Gun.

  • splendid.

  • Agahu, or Gahu, is traditionally performed on the Agboba lead drum.

  • Gahu has many manifestations as it has travelled from Benin to Ghana. The version we perform is based upon the arrangement of the Ghana dance ensemble, which in turn is based upon the fusing of the basic Gahu step with conversations drawn from Kinka. Ensembles that perform this 'enhanced' version often use atimevu. Gboba is still used in many village ensembles.

  • While Gahu does incorporate a section of kinka, it is generally less common to play it on Atsimevu (referencing David Locke and the Agbeli family.)

  • My drumming group played Gahu on the astimevu for years. Then we chilled with Nani Akbelli, and he taught us all of out stuff.

It's commonly played on the Boba.

I play the Sogo, and I'm currently learning the lead. I've never seen these dance moves, except the elbows.
