  • Too bad there wasn't more historical documentation here on you tube. Another cool crashing to the ground can be seen by typing into search: lansing civic center part 3

  • Very sad to see the old drive-in theaters come down. They are part of our heritage as Americans and should be preserved as best we can! On a happy note there are many drive-in theaters still in operation in many States such as New Hampshire,Massachusetts and Ohio!

  • lets all go the lobby and get ourselves a treat ;)

  • I AGREE. Beautiful footage. To: RQVOutdoorMoovies...For some reason, your video isn't posted on these pages. To drive in Nuts: If you type into search "drive in theaters from RQVOutdoorMoovies", you'll get to see tvery cool MILES DRIVE IN, apparently now gone. It's not as cool as this FIVE STAR Demolition clip, but, it's cool in it's own way...I just don't know why it isn't on any of these 50 drive in pages? The 41 looks like it could have been saved. Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you, Mr. Drive In, for posting that beautiful footage. It's beautiful because if YOU hadn't taped and posted it, we would have never seen it. Historical Documentation keeps these places alive. Thank you!

  • that is a bummer.. i think we lost our last one here in colorado springs around 1997 or so..

  • I'm looking forward to checking out your Wisconsin drive in site. To Exarian: Yeah, we tend to take for granted these places that we thought would always be there. I had a drive in about 2 miles from my house, and figured it would always be there. You can be commended for getting a marker put up. The Walmart where my drive in was wouldn't even let me put up a framed photo!

  • aww, My town had one that was around FOREVER. I loved it... sure, I only went about twice in my LIFE, but I loved it each time!

It was the full experience, snack bar, AM/FM broadcast, double feature with 3 stooges in between, before, and after. ahh man I miss it.

It got torn down to make room for a Google server farm.

I wish I had gone there more often when I could.

I need to find an operating one, and take a road trip there.

  • So sad. The city of franklin keeps getting more industrial and urban, yet they haven't created anymore places to just hang out.

  • Thanks or posting. Very sad, indeed.

  • brings a tear to my eye

  • The drive in theatres that meant so much to us often crash to the ground with very few witnesses. People drive by and see it, and yet, only a few of us have enough wits about us to document the event. Watching the 41 TWIN crash to the ground was very sad, but it was very cool to watch. It's fantastic that there is a Historical Marker on the site. Kudos to all involved in that effort.

  • Thanks for the Kudos on the historical marker. It took me almost 2 year for them to finally get the marker there. You can check out the marker at my site called, Wisconsin drive-in Theaters, An Evening Under the Stars. Click on the marker page to see it.

  • R.I.P. Franklin's 41 Twin Drive-In

  • I thought the guy was going to say, "It's down, after several decades." He said, "It's down, after several attempts." At least the drive-in put up a fight going out!

Oregon had about 70 drive-ins at their peak. Now we're down to 2.

  • Another piece of Americana gone forever.

  • brings a tear to my eye. I had so many good times there I still remember when they had the posts with the speakers and 31 years old.I remember cars being lined up all the way to old banaza park for some movies.

  • man when are you all going to learn, save our heratage, there are less then 500 drive ins left in the world, as of two years ago according to food network on their special about movie theater food if I remember correctly. dont you know, how rare it is to find a drive in anymore and no one fought to save this one i suppose you are going to tell me.

  • I wasn't responsible for the destruction of this drive-in. I just obtained the video footage of the screen demolition. As far as fighting to save this drive-in? It was well beyond that already and wouldn't have been saved. But because of my efforts, there is a historical marker on the site of the former 41 Twin drive-in theater. AND I got to write the wording for the marker as well. Your welcome. Chuck

  • Thats nice and all nobel that you did that but, It dont change the fact that its gone, and only a handfull have been put up, that is I heard that they did build one out in arazona or somewhere that was a double. and they did have a portable one for the james dean fest in faremont indiana, they never did the event again though due to lack of attendance. Ther are only a few in northern indiana, Garrett auburn, and hungtington drive in. THough the drive in restaraunts concept is alive

  • that is with sonic, dawgn suds and the few a&w and B&W restaruants that have been refurbished, now if the could just build another drive in movie theater

  • MrDriveIn, im assuming you're familiar with Oak Creek? That's where I live....that theater was awesome.

  • I know it very well. I worked at the 41 Twin the last 2 years it was open. I am also working on a book project about the history of Wisconsin drive-in theaters. If you go to a search engine and type in Wisconsin Drive In Theaters, my site will be the first to pop up. Check it out!

  • is this the twin drive in in indianapolis

  • No, this is a clip from the drive-in that was located in Franklin, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee.
