I got the impression that all their scanning research was for new development tools, and not anything to do with gameplay or commercial hardware. I rather doubt Sony would farm out the development of a new PS Eye to a game developer even if they are in-house.

But unfortunately the true power of the PlayStation 3 is not often shown because games are made for the Xbox FIRST (because of its popularity) then converted to PlayStation 3. The games are limited to the 360's power. Games like LBP2 and the Uncharted series are the exceptions, since they are the console-exclusive titles. Therefore they aren't limited by the Xbox.

But I'm more of a fan of PlayStation 3.

You forgot to add that the ps3 has free online, player blu-ray discs, is WAY quiter than Xbox, laser Burns are ALOT less common than with Xbox, and the ps3 harnesses more power.

Have not seen the show in a long while. Still great even without Austin while he's at college. In terms of what MM is doing, it can be anything. I don't think they are working on a game right now. For the next year or so they will no doubt be exploring ideas. Maybe they have a few projects in mind and they are working to find the one they can turn into a game and save the rest for future ideas. I don't think Sony is even thinking about PS4 anytime soon. PS3 still has so much life in it.

big fan of PlayStation because:

• PS is a better gameplay console

• smaller consoles so they can take up less room

• easier menu design then the X-Box

• more durable discs

• has a smaller portable version PSP

• easier to hold controller (I mean really wtf is with the X-Box controllers)

• and all around fun games

awesome episode and yet the PlayStation eye3.0 idea is really good the only problem is the x-box kenect has the two cameras and laser but then again the x-box took the idea from Sony in the first place.. but if Sony did do this and everything and then x-box tryed to take legal actions on it.. well Sony would be able to easily counter... so all's fair in games and war... (← that sounds a little nerdy ....lol oh well)

Not to forget that sony was the first to make games that would run with out controler "eyetoy" and xbox fanatics dont understand that kinect comes from that idee. Yes it is better but still has the same flaws as "eyetoy".

sadly but the kinect already has 2 cameras and uses lasers so the tec is already out on xbox but not as advanced if sony does make a eye 3.0 it would make Sony look bad with all those xboxtrolls out there that have nothing better to do but bash Sony for taking ideas and making them better

look brah i was expecting something LBP and not some random stuff about none LBP related stuff with Mm's other stuff, i mean its Great you pointed it out but your looking so deep into it. All this other stuff which has almost completely nothing to do with LBP should kind of be left out. This is starting to be a "Anything with LBP, MM and PS3 podcast". I am 90% sure that all this research has nothing to do with LittleBigPlanet at all. Media Molecule said the research was to break their dependence on LBP2 so people assume that means they are working on LBP3 but they meant the series in general not that specific title. I am also quite sure this R&D is for the PS4 as I think Sony asked MM and Guerrilla Games (Killzone) an possibly a few others like Sucker Punch to move on to PS4 for a strong launch lineup.

@FloydRisingHD There in NO WAY Sony would wait until 2022 to put out a new system. Nintendo has already announced their new system and Microsoft will follow either this year or the next. Sony would be obliterated if they waited another 10 years. They said 10 years back in 2006 as the lifespan of the PS3. Just because the PS4 comes out doesn't mean PS3 is dead. Just look at the PS2. Expect a PS4 announcement by the end of 2013 if not sooner.

PS3 release was 2006, so people are speculating 2015-2016.

I personally would guess 2014. 2012 is a definite no, 2013 is possible but unlikely, and 2014 is almost on their regular schedule, but would meet the heightened demands of the growing industry.

@Tiarcis Yes, but they said that prior to the Wii U being announced. Being last to market is a stark disadvantage that Sony have said they want to avoid. Nintendo has put a little pressure on Microsoft and Sony with the Wii U but I don't think either are that threatened by it for reasons that are too tough to explain in a YouTube comment. However, if Microsoft unveils their new system this year then Sony's hand will be forced and PS4 will be out by Christmas 2013 or around that time frame.

if its lasers coming out of the camera the new camera sounds like it will be similer to Kinect for the 360. This laser thing measures distance he said so maybe it can measure your distance and movement and do motion gaming without a controller. JUst saying because I'm pretty sure kinect uses lasers and cameras.
