this is not my favorite nutcracker, because it's not the true meaning of ballet. it would be a good 80's musical with no words, but keep the good acting skills and effort
Ah, this remindes me of cirque crossed with mark morris as far as the costuming goes. looks kind of neat as long as its done well, I see too much contemporary dance in theater for my tastes, and dont like all its minimal costuming, have not seen this on tv yet on ovation channel though so I will have to check it out.
ive studied ballet and modern jazz for 10 years im 16 years old and ive cant believe ive just come across this its perfect! just shows you that ballet doesnt have to be all pointe shoes and pain. It looks amazing something i difinatly wanna go and see when i get a chance, i want to perform like this when ive gone through college. Brilliant xx
when you say 'pointe shoes and pain' I think you should refer only to yourself. I am a dancer, and i have been dancing en pointe since I was 9. I have never experienced any pain, apart from a couple blisters. Some people just don't hurt, their feet aren't sensitive to that sort of thing, while other peoples hurt like heck. I agree with you though, it does show that you don't need pointe shoes and classical ballet to dance etc.
I am now 23, and my feet did not become 'messed up' Thank you for your concern though. My teacher was sure I was strong enough at the time, even though i was still growing. I also did not dance a lot en pointe until I was about 10. And I was very, very careful and only did what the teacher said en pointe.
i went to see it in Milton Keynes. it was so good. i thought it was gonna be alright but i didn't expect what i actually saw. it was amazing!! i really wann be in it when i'm older. :)
I actually like this on better because there's a story the whole way through, and it's original and interesting. you don't have to get it, and you're totally entitled to your own opinions, but that doesn't mean it's a DISGRACE to the Nutcracker Ballet.
these guys r actully comin to my college tommorow and teaching us the dances!!! such an amazing oppotunity dont u think!!! wooow i cnt wait.... and we r seeing the performace an a weeks time aswell... sooo worth watching even though iv seen it about a million times lol
returnofbhavar99, I went to Marie Humphreys School of Dance in Staffordhsire, UK. I did the "Waltz of the Flowers" scene. I danced with a flowered hoop. It was wonderful with everyone watching me!
Interesting all these modern versions of Tchaikovsky's great score. None equal Balanchine's, but I'm a purist I guess. Please check out CASABLANCA, THE DANCE, here, and leave your comments.
This looks like a great performance. I listen to the Nutcracker and the Nutcracker Suite through out the year, even had someone ask me in Jul when they heard it playing when I was in my Jeep why I was listening to Christmas music. I looked at them like they were from Mars... its not just Christmas music, its to be enjoyed year round.
I think what it is the U.S. is so used to the tutu version of the nutcracker. So, that's why theaters here in the states won't jump to have it here. Personally, as an American I would love to see it. I get bored of seeing the same ballet year after year.

You just have to see Matthew Bourne's other shows. Swan Lake, Car Man (taken form Bizet Carmen - stupendous). Fantastic choreography

OMG!
I saw this on digital cable today and this scared the crap outta me and in my opinion is a DISGRACE to the Nutcracker ballet.
I just didn't get it...this felt like a Halloween joke or something and was not the Nutcracker I know and love.
I prefer the orgional ballet thank you =]

Bobby took me to see this the first time. The
Christmas tree was 40 ft. high! It was so
wonderful! That's when Nick was Concertmaster
there. I saw it several times as Bobby was
working backstage. It was very exciting! I
always wished Sky could see it. Nick, Bobby's
Dad, was concert master there for 30 years and
46 years in Ocean City, New Jersey. Thanks for posting, joanie

There was a short tour of Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker in the US during the 2006-2007 season. It came to UC Berkeley's Zellerbach Hall.
