  • Thanks for this beautiful performance, It is extremely hard is to get a clean and crystaline sound. Compliments from your harmonicist colleague Clovis Castello

  • Thanks for this beautiful performance, I know how hard is to get a clean and crystaline sound. Compliments from your harmonicist colleague Clovis Castello

  • You are an obvious virtuoso on the 280.

Someday, with perfect practice, maybe... no, probably not....

So, how do you keep from pulling out mustache hairs when you play?

    Thanks for letting us listen

    John

  • Actually, it has happened once or twice.

    Hurts like hell!

  • Reel to reel or digital. I use a Mac using digital performer software.

  • Digital

  • Very nice and so tasty. Has a very classic sound.

A bit like the harmonica on the Andre Kostenlanits

records and Eddy Manson. Like the reverb..

What brand is it? What mic are you using and

how did you record the harmonica.

  • Thanks, Diggsblues!

I recorded it on my Tascam multi-track. The reverb is a feature of the Tascam. The mic is an Audix 0M-5.

    Best wishes,

    Jim Watkins

  • Very great playing Jim !

    Christian.

  • Very good Jim.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Christian.

  • you are just amazing!

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • Hi. What a great job you did on that song. I

think you're truly of the best players on the

chromatic harmonica. Your style and phrasing

are a joy to listen to.

    Take care, Dave

  • Hi Jim,

It is fall here in canada and it is raining right now, what an appropriate song to listen to,you have just brightened up my mood with this beautiful rendetion, you are 2nd to none.

  • Hi Jim, Thanks for you last comment on views.

I wish we had that rainy day over here we have been in drought mode for about 7 years. Fantasic layback jazz playing and song choice. Thank you for the entertainment.

    Cheers Warren.

  • Thanks Warren,

I'm pleased that you liked it. It's absolutely one of my favorite

tunes of all time. Here's hoping you get some precipitation soon!

    Jim

  • Dear Jim,

It's so good to see you again so soon, and especially to hear your wonderful playing again.

Your playing reminds me of Mr Toots Thielemans, the worldfamous blues/jazz harmonica player, he is 86 years old now and still performing in Europe, he lives in our neighboorcountry Belgium in the capitalcity Brussels.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful ballad with us, our compliments.

    Our best wishes to you,

Friendly greetings Chris and Mayka - The Netherlands - YouTube chrismayka

  • Thank you, crismayka. Being compared to Toots is a compliment of the highest order. Although I've never met him, I've admired his music for many years, and have often wondered what he would think of my playing.

    Best wishes,

    Jim

  • Dear Jim,

    Thanks for your reaction.

When I wouldn't have known that you were playing this ballad I would have thought I heard Toots playing!!!!

I met him 3 times in our theatre in our little city, I talked with him personally after each performance, JUST GREAT, I gave him a lot of flowers every time!!!

He is a very nice guy.

I am sure he would admire your playing, really!!!

Therefor, please keep on harpin, this ballad is in my favourites too!!

    Best wishes from us.

    Bye Chris and Mayka.

  • Dear Jim,

So sorry for disturbing again, I forgot to tell you:

When Toots would have heard you I am sure he would say: Please tell me which professional player I hear now, I want to met him and I want to know more of his music!!!!!!!!!

Jim, just a question: will you please be so kind to let me know what brand chromatic you are playing, and how many holes, I think 16 holes, 64 notes in Key of C, is it right??

    Thanks for your answer.

    Greetings Chris.

  • Yes, I play Hohner 64. It's pitched in 'C' but of course, being chromatic, it can be played in any Key.

  • Dear Jim,

    Thanks for your quick answer.

When we see the design of your Hohner chromatic we think you are playing the Hohner chromonica-64, is that right??

Please let me know, because the sound of this chromatic is very beautiful!!

I play several Suzuki chromatics, 16 holes SCX-64, 14 holes SCX-56, and 16 holes SC-64, the last one is a professional Model which I got from my son as a birthdaypresent, a big surprise!!

    Our best wishes,

    Friendly greetings Chris.
