to be honest, i don't know why people can't just appreciate the spirit of the song and stop critiquing every single minute quirk they may find in technique, or wording or w/e have you....when Billie Holiday performed this song...technique was teh LAST thign on her mind...its the emotion behind the song that the writers and performers intended to convey!! and you executed it VERY well i must say...
Billie Holiday didn't write this any more than Frank Sinatra wrote "My Way". She has given the definitive performance of the song but you're inaccurate in saying she wrote it.
Strange Fruit was written in 1937 by Mr. Lewis Allen.
You have the emotion, but you have some things to work on. For one, try to pronounce the last consonants. Because you know the lyrics it's easy not to emphasize those letters (but they gives more meaning to the song).
Try to give it more of a melody. The song is carrying you now.
And the song starts off with Southern trees, not southern leaves:)
in actual fact, the words were pronounced but the microphone didnt pick them up very well. However, even if I didnt pronounce the way you want, does it matter? Have you ever listened to a song by pearl jam, radiohead, nirvana and said.. well they are crap because they dont pronounce every sylable. This song is about emotion and you can tell what the words are even without the final letter. the effect is whats important and the individual style of the performer.
I love this, how you made such a great cover of a well known and historical song. One of my favourite songs actually. And your expression when you're singing it. Ah, lovely.
You know,{you probably do;)}, they said of Rosemary Clooney ~and I agree~ that she was "the best friend a song ever had".. This truly could be said of you, TOO! ~anni:D

where did I write that she wrote it? This version, which I have done, is a cover of the version by billie.

It's in your description: "This is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. It is Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday."

I agree, he's not fully pronouncing the final syllable in many key words. This takes away some of the meaning of the song.
