Contemporary dance I feel has a stigma - its always assumed that a contemporary piece of dance should 'look' aesthetically a certain way, for example a new look of ballet. But in fact, 'contemporary' means new, check out Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Mark Morris, Pina Bausch... x
the innovators for contemporary dance, that is merce cunningham, even martha graham, alvin ailey and a lot of others had never studies classical ballet, so they couldnt be rebelling against it!!!! it was just a new way of being creative!! i study both, full time, and i dont believe one rebels the other, they are just different. classical ballet is emotive too! i feel more emotion doing classical ballet, though i see myself being a contemporary dancer, so its too hard to put a label on the two!
it is A ballet in that it is a narrative story in several acts, performed to music, no speaking, all thorugh dance, however it is not classical ballet, it is modern dance.
Does the show suck or what...Certainly wouldn't have my kids see it..What is it with licking each others hands and arms? And the pole dancing? And mooning the audience?
they are licking each others hands because in sweetie land you are not judged on how you look but how you taste and you obviously have no cultural or your are profoundly narrow-minded if you cannot see the beauty and elegance of the nutcracker ballet. So at least dislike the ballet with respect, if you don't I would like to see you write a suite for a ballet and dance it with the beauty and professional level that travolsky and the dancers and Matthew Bourne do.
Dear God no, not this specific play! But I did do a version of the Nutcracker, it just wasn't this particular- on second thought, I think I've made my point.
Never have i seens som much pink where it was not appropriate, if you actually READ the story the nutcracker goes with its not a paticularly happy one, its only gets its good(in a happy fuzzy way,it is of high quality regardless) rap because the story is so unbelievable(fairies, rat kings...) it regarded as fairy tale
the costumes are PINK sugar cakes in material form ;-)

i love the nutcracker especially this version by Matthew Bourne. Its a magical ballet that takes a lot of care and character to dance.
