  • I have an 02 Maxima VQ35DE...I've heard of this problem. I was told the solution is to get a 6th gen Maxima 2004 valve cover and replace with that because they fixed the flaw in the cover after those years.

  • ok............ thats it?????

  • that is pretty common, change out your valve cover gasket and gasket for spark tubes. just wipe out tubes before new plugs go in with lint free cloth and something long and thin..... thats what she said

  • I discovered the same exact thing on my G...how might i go about fixing this problem?

  • @manny16030 Get a G37s.

  • A lot of people say the seals only come with new valve covers, my experience has been this is not true. Most of the time the seals only come with new valve cover GASKET sets.

  • So is there a TSB on this?

  • @joeyalbergo yes, a TSB is now available

  • @joeyalbergo actually, a TSB is not out for this, I was mistaken. There is, however, a tsb for oil consumption.

  • if u have oil in spark plugs tryb too change your o- ring that sits on top of your head right under the valve cover

  • Wow, didnt know this could happen to these cars too. I have had a Saturn and my current Toyota, same problem, quite annoying.

  • You know what is worse? 2000-2003 maxima had crappy valve covers that cost a crap load of money. The 2004+ maxima has a better and CHEAPER valve cover that stops this oil leak into the spark plug tubes. Grrr.

  • what is the name of this excat part

  • @shivpatel

spark plug boot, or ignition coil

  • And I know they crack at the spark plug tube seal, juss mad.. but to make the seal part of the valve cover is a monopoly. So what are you are telling me we are forced to buy a whole entire cover..? Someone has to make aftermarket ones..No wonder I was consuming so much fuel and and not topping out at 150 like I usually do on the 680..

  • That sucks..I have the same ol problem on my 03 sedan, and it sucks like shit that Infinity decides to use composite plastic valve covers that crack..At first I thought of a loose spark plug, changed all plugs, costs around 90 dollars to figure the problem wasn't plugs but a cracked valve cover that will cost you around 200 each. Im gonna be looking for someone who makes solid metal ones so I won't have to worry about them cracking on me like OEM Infinity ones do, cheap stuff.

  • Is this problem on all the g35?

  • Yes. all VQ35DE engines are prone.

  • I have an 03 G35 Sedan. Its time to change the spark plugs on it. Are you saying that my car could also have that problem? Could it be covered by warranty?

  • my g has a slight leak of oil as well what is the source of the problem and how can i fix it ?

  • The source of the problem is a bad spark plug tube seal. The seals only come with new valve covers. Ideally, you'd just replace the seal(s) that are leaking, however, since they are not sold separately, you'll need to replace the entire valve cover.

  • @bythabayplayer I've seen the plug seals come with valve cover gasket sets, save your money!

  • i would change the non-foulers too

  • the same thing happend to my accord. you have to replace the spark plug o ring gaskets and to be safe the valve gasket also.
