They hit the brake peddle cuz they have whats called floating rotors.
What it is I will explain. Street cars have floating calipers. Race cars have solid mounted calipers and the rotors move around. So when you have this the rotors will some time move and hit the pads at hi speeds and push the pad and piston away from the rotor surface. Drivers get in the habit of doing this so that when they brake hard the pedal does not go half or to the floor when thay hit the brakes at 290 300 kph
The tapping of the pedal is to bring the pad closer to the rotor for the hard braking application, they get whats called "knock off" as a pad wears out it retracts to its original location as when the pad was new but the surface of the pad is further away from the rotor due to it wearing out, it also ensures that the brake fluid has pressure ready to go when called for. Trust me, the temp is NO problems, good enough for cooking steaks even at their coolest around Bathurst.
GT such a great level headed driver. That footage is so dam good, hats off to the tv crew and GT, just another master of the mountain, in the foot steps of the great man, The King, Brocky.
yeah coz that car there ran a dog box now its a squencial for most of the v8s but with a dog box u basicly just drag the gears through on up shifts. and then he'll use the clucth on the downshifts.
Absolutly awsome....I never get sick of the V8's going around bathurst...I loved the exhaust crackle when he changed back to 2nd in the esses and also when he changed back to second comming into forest elbow. jam3z07 is dead right, these cars really do have a sound of their own escpecially around Bathurst
Yeah like the Alan Grice/Win Percy commodore that won in 1990. You should watch that if you haven't already.....talk about a nice exhaust note. Very nice. I might be a Ford fan but I love the sound of any V8 be it ford holden, or anything.....you just can't beat that sound
I'll tell you another car that really sounded nice. I doubt you would have probabaly seen it, but there was a VP priveteer entry in the 1994 race. It was #14 driven by Stuart Mcoll/Peter Gazzard. It was orange and yellow in colour, and man did it sound nice. It had a beutiful scream to it. If you watch a vid on John Bowe's last lap of the 94 race you might be able to see it. Go'd it's a nice sound.
Yes,as Bowe was exiting Murray's corner, he was ducking & weaving trying to pick his way past a Mercedes 190E and you can see the VP in front of both of them. Then on the very last lap Bowe passes him as they head into Griffins bend and you can hear it then as well. It has the most awsome scream to it
He was right behind it at the end of Lap 160 as he was shown the "Last Lap" board and then he passed it under brakes on the entry to Griffins Bend on lap 161. Then when Bowe is heading up through the cutting and Reid park, you can hear it screaming in the distance behind him. I have it on dvd so I'll see if I can put it on here for you to hear for yourself.....it really does sound nice
oh yeah. i thought u were talking about the commodore just in front of lowndes as lowndes passed the last lap board. yeah i heard it mate. it sounds alright aye.
@19escort73 gricys Walkinshaw HRT 1990 VL bathurst winner had a 308 aussie V8, so saying it has got a nice exhaust note is an understatement.... its god clearing his throat.
Yeah it is, but you could compare the v8 Supercars to a more advanced version of NASCAR cars. If they NASCAR did more road courses (as it should considering its origins), then it would be much more similar.
@vansoth it's not necessarily that nascar's so low tech. It's more of the fact that nascars generate so little downforce. Look at the massive wings on those v8s. stock cars as a tradition (and a rule) do not generate any downforce at all.
Great sound but the pitch of the sound is quite high for a V8?
mildrew38 11 months ago
@mildrew38 It's because these V8 rev over 4000 rpm.

i like to see how they quickly tap the pedal twice to get the brakes to the right temperature just before the braking area.

do you see how the brake pedal slowly retracts? Isnt that an early indication that the car had brake trouble?

i remember tander saying why he was so fast. in this race hrt and hsvdt had brake problems. so it was like he had no brakes thus he goes fast.

Is this racing series only unique to Australia? or is it just more popular there.

im not really that sure, considering the Australian V8 supercars have never raced in the USA. i'd like to see it though.
