omg...!! i hope we can do that.... we started a practice of scottish dance... im from phil.... we gonna dance that in our intramurals on oct. 19, 2011... (wedesday)..
I feel for the piper a little. He had to stop and for a second because he got away from the other music. It's tough to hear other music when you're drones are right in your ear.
yay! finally a dance where the men's skirts (kilts, yeah yeah) where the men's "skirts" are shorter than the women's! And where the men's outfits are more revealing than the womens! yay!
i remember the words to this tune.........it goes.................We are the highland jocks we all wear kilts but we dont wear socks.but we wear neckties on our cocks tay keep our balls frae freezin.............
I am learning this here in NZ, and loving it. These fit dancers have given me more inspiration to get fitter and dance more. Well done the Scots. Love it
To andreazuffer: I don't know the dance, but the first tune is "the Barren Rocks of Aden;" the second sounds a little like "The Braes of Killiecrankie." If I a wrong, please someone tell me! Then comes "Mari's Wedding."
Thanks so much for answering! Of course you are right, now that I listen again! I sing Nutbrown M. but it sounds so wierdly different on the pipes that I truly didn't recognize it until you told me. I understand that this is because the pipes can only play certain intervals and not the infinite number that can be sung. This is so funny! I can't wait to tell my friend the pipe major What a dummy I am--he will get a laugh.
Agree - lovely dance - and yes, Country dancing is nowhere near as energetic as Highland but it is more accessible/social and generally more varied. Particularly suitable for a mixed age group - and it is a folk festival after all, not a competition...
I agree - folk dance is very different from highland competition. I've loved watching this team though - not seen anyone who can touch them for variety and quality of performance - the scottish dance world should be proud of you!
My English teacher is Scottish ! now I started to imagine him dancing like this ;D

@EngIishContingent this isnt morris dancing. this is a part of theese peopes heritage and maybe you need to try it to apreacheate it.
I bet you couldnt do this dance if your life depended on it
And as for the men, when scottish dancing began, it was ONLY men that danced, and they were SOLDIERS too.
