This is the stupidest thing I've ever read, I'm not even that knowledgeable about Superman but even I know that Superman has a lot of worthy opponents like Darkseid, Braniac, Doomsday, Bizarro, Zod, Henshaw, Solomon Grundy, etc. He doesn't focus on crooks like Batman, he fights really powerful guys. Throw them in and you've got a Superman game.

Most Superman games just don't take advantage of the DC UNiverse, if the game sucks, it's the designer's fault, not the license.

I'm not a programmer, but to tell you the truth, a game that captured the spirit of Superman would be really boring as hell.

Here's what a real Superman game would be like: you'd fly around beating up everyone and not taking any damage, then Lex Luthor would show up with a load of Green Kryptonite and you automatically lose. The End. Does that sound like a fun game? No, it doesn't.

Superman has Parasite who can drain his life force, Brainiac who's own technology's powerful enough to kill Superman, mystical beings can mentally hurt Superman a lot even kill him and let's not forget Darkseid, who's like an evil godlike being.

The best super man game. Own all the comics for this arc too. The only DC arc to ever captivate me. Finally an enemy even superman and the rest of the world have to struggle with to eventually take down.

Its the fact that Superman doesnt use his powers to to dominate over others as most people would that makes him an interesting character,Most people would use his power to get their own way and just do whatever they wanted.Superman uses his to protect humanity.He is an idealist,a too nice guy as opposed to Batman who is a facist but is also a great character for those reasons and is the complete opposite of Superman.

Sure Superman can beat Batman in a fight but Batman would still win in my eye for standing up against someone so godly powerful. Superman man beating Batman would just feel like Superman got lucky cuz theres no real skill. Supes got lucky when he got powers, which could be since birth. Superman sucks.

Thats not what he meant and he clearly mentioned that what superman does anybody can do if they had superman's powers but thats not the case with most of the other super heroes. I wouldn't say hes not a hero but he's not very impressive either. His powers are too great for anything to be a problem for him whereas other heroes put their lives at risk.

Man are you crazy? There isn't shit wrong with the music in this game. Next to Streets Of Rage its possibly the second beat em up with a good soundtrack. Spider Man Maximum Carnage is also way harder than this.

I enjoyed this game too. Except for the part where Doomsday and Superman exchange final blows. They just kind of fly apart and lay dead. Where as in the comic it was awesome because what you see of the final blow is a reflection in Jimmy Olson's camera lens. The animated movie was ok too, it had Superman get up and stagger into Lois Lane's arms, and it was more potent to see Lois cradle him in his (what we thought) were his final moments.

I don't like superman becuase he's not a hero he's just immortal and anybody could do what superman does if they had powers. But not everyone could be batman even if they had all of his gadgets because batman is a master martial artist

Very true. Batman is very Smart and the Worlds greatest detective. Sometimes he wins battles without using Brawn at all. Superman can't do that. People are not afraid of him because he is to nice a guy. Batman puts fear into peoples hearts. Superman just gives everyone a safe good feeling. Unless your Lex or Darkside. Even so Superman is a nice guy, The Dark Knight isn't out to make friends or give warm fuzzies. They are to different types of Heroes though.

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone could do what Superman does because a lot of people would use those abilities for selfish reasons.

Yes, Batman is more realistic because he's human, but those grappling guns and most of his other toys?  Not possible in real life. Watch the Mythbusters episode "Superhero Hour" and see for yourself.

So all things being equal, I'd rather believe in hope more often than vengeance.

Batman is the master martial artist and the greatest detective ever, i love em both. Superman is the kind of guy who dousnt wanna fight but is forced to have to. Superman is a hero because of what he does with his powers, not because of the simple fact that he has powers. If you applied your logic to the entire comic universe, only heros that have no powers can be called heros.

Batman is more realistic character. Everyone can relate to his tragedy and life long struggle against Evil. No matter how hard Batman fights he will never stamp out Evil fully. Batman said it best in I am the Knight "I have put out out a few fires and I have won a few Battles. But the war rages on and has no end" All other comic characters break their Rules and Batman has been pushed to the Brink and beyond. Still he will not Kill. For if he does, then he is no better then his enemies.

It doesn't make you no better than your enemy to kill in defense of the people that will die if you do not. thanks for reviewing this game - but i disagree with your review.

I am a long time superman fan and would obviously overlook alot of bad qualities of the respective games, BUT this game is one of the best of this license.

Other games for superfans include- superman the arcade game( is the 2 player char shazam or isn't it?)

But the game is really repetitive throughout. I hate fighting games where you kill two guys, then two more identical comes come out, you kill them, then the screen scrolls to an IDENTICAL LOOKING location and you kill sets of two more of the same enemies, repeat, ad naseum. Then you do it all again on the next level but with different sprites.

I bet Blizzard wasn't the original developer but just finished the game.

The SNES game started out as just "Superman" then it was altered mid-development to be "The Death of Superman" then changed to "Death and Return of Superman" when that wrinkle in the comic book happened. So it was in development hell for awhile. You can tell because the game starts out with all these interesting elements, and you have the one "Steel" level that's different from all the others.

I don't think this game is all that bad (then again I've only played the Sega Genesis port). It maybe hard and a little frustrating at points... but when it comes to frustrating Beat'em Ups, Splatterhouse 3 is the undisputed champion for the Sega Genesis! If you can get it, play it, you'll be climbing up the walls by the second level!

oh nice job stating the flaws: characters play exactly the same (kinda like in dbz tenkaichi budokai series too), the game malfunctions at cutscenes (hard to believe, damn).
