so what your saying is i could get a 6800gt get some drivers for it and make it a direct x 10.1 card pfft stfu your full of shit my 9800gt doesnt even have 10.1
Dude no it wont, it'll do directx 10... only ATI has directx 11 cards out at the moment. If you read up on cards you would know everyone is waiting for Nvidia to release their 1st DX11 cards which should be out in the next few months
It doesn't matter If you have DX11 If you card doesn't support it you cant take advantage of the technologies like tessellation shader 5.0. I have a GTX260 and windows 7 but I can only run Dx 10.0
ATI has high-end cards too. The 4870X2, 4850X2 (and maybe later the 4890X2). What are these in your opinion? Mid-end? XD Nvidia hasn't got better card then the 4870X2. They had the GTX295 but it's not available anymore (it was too expensive to produce it). So now the best available(!) card is the 4870X2, in this moment. And in DX10.1 mode it's much more faster than any Nvidia cards.
4870X2 is much more better than GTX 280. It's fact, you can see it in any test. But it's okay, because the 4870X2 is more expensive than GTX 280. The only opponent for the 4870X2 was the GTX 295, but as i said it's not available anymore.

Yes, but watch those prices instead of how many cores are on them. Who cares about the number of cores? First of all the speed of the games and the price of the VGA matter. The 4870 is worse than GTX 280, but it's ok, because it's cheaper. ;) And yes, the 4890 is around the speed of GTX 280/275, and cheaper than them.
I've looked for GTX 295, you're right, it's still available, but i think those are the last ones, they won't make any more, because it's loss-yielding (at least Nvidia says this).

Price matters when we talk about 2 (or more) VGA's performance. If they are on the same performance but one is cheaper than the other one, then I'd coose that. :)
There could be problems with dual GPU VGAs in some games, but you can see these problems on GTX 295 too.
And if we talk about HD 4890 vs. GTX 275/280, i'd choose the 4890, because it's cheaper and with a bit overclock it's on the same performance in DX10 mode... in DX10.1 it's more powerful than the Nvidia cards. ;) And there is no incompatibility or any problems.
i dont use vista there for im not going for dx10.. vista is horrible thats why i put xp on my computer. and im talking about a GTX 285 (2gb version) and yea i know u see those probs with gtx 295 thats why im talking about the fastest most compatible card today is the gtx 285 (2gb version) im getting one sometime this week off newegg. specifially the EVGA GTX 285 Superclocked (2GB)

it is in unreal torunament 3 but only on 3 MAPS. Thats it. PhysX sucks. u want PhysX with youre ATI card get the accelerator they make. problem solved.

3.Spectacular new weapons with incredible effects.
4.Cloth that drapes and tears naturally.
5.Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion.
Do your research dude.. :P I know hardware, I built my own pc, and I did a lot of research before buying an AMD Dragon Platform..I was actually going to go for an i7, but after seeing benchmarks, it looks like Phenom II is the better choice, so is ATI.. the 4890 Outperforms GTX 285 in some benchmarks and in some it just matches it.. it does loose in some but only buy a few fps and only on the games optimized for nvidia.. 4890 = $269CAD, GTX 285 = $439CAD (Cheapest)..
depends on what games you play remember that.... It looks even if you average all the games in all but some games tend to favour nvidia while others tend to favour ATI....
but it depends on your budget type. for now most application is not to heavy to processes by the pc hardware right now. practically go for amd. but if you want more scores try built a more expensive one.
Yeah, ATI Is awesome :P.. NV Fanboys are probably pissed.. u can get 2 4870's for $300USD and run them on Crossfire, it'll go faster then 4890 and GTX 285, and it'll still cost less :P.. I'm actually running 2X 4870's :]
You mean Physx? thats the only thing nvidia has that ati doesn't.. but then again nvidia bought it from Ageia.. which is why nvidia is supported with 3d monitors.. which is great, but other then that ATI all the way imo.. If money isn't a problem and you want to use 3d monitors then by all means go with nvidia...
FTW u are wrong really. Ati have Havok physics engine too, but PhysX is more commercialized really. Good at anti-aliasing? Remember the HD3000 series???
Yeah i forgot about that, ATI Does have better AA, I didnt know about the Havok Physics.. that means ATI is better :], I myself have 2 4870's running crossfire.. ATi is cheaper and performs faster..
Delivering physics in games is no easy task. It's an extremely compute-intensive environment based on a unique set of physics algorithms that require tremendous amounts of simultaneous mathematical and logical calculations.
This is where NVIDIA® PhysX™ Technology and GeForce® processors come in. NVIDIA PhysX is a powerful physics engine which enables real-time physics in leading edge PC and console games. PhysX software is widely adopted by over 150 games, is used by more than 10,000 registered users and is supported on Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.
sounds like somone from Nvidia. and yeah the Xbox360 uses PhysX and has an ATI card wich means that ATI cards can handle PhysX just fine. its just that Nvidia owns it and they thinks its so awesome. well its not because it can run or the CPU and Cpus are getting more powerful every year. Nvidia Fail
The game that will actualy use the DX 10.1 will allso install the latest version of DX like every game does, or you allready have one if you update your Vista regulary.

Ok, I need some help with this. I was planning on get 2 ATI Radeon HD 5970 2GB.
1.) Does that mean if I get 2 cards I will have a better Picture?
2.) And 2 cards with 2GB each will work together as 4GB?
3.) OR SHOULD I JUST STICK WITH 1 ATI Radeon HD 5970 4GB, SINCE 4GB IS OUT NOW?
PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ONE, AND ABOUT HAVING 2 CARDS WILL IT GIVE A BETTER PICTURE? Thanx

1. PhysX was not created by Nvidia they purchased Ageia in 2008 who created it.
2. PhysX is not hardware based it's a middle-ware SDK.
3. Yes you can get hardware that accelerates PhysX but you can do it on the GPU via software too

grimlord5654 2 years ago
if u OC the 4890 then it beats the gtx 285 in all benchmarks ;)
z1pfL 2 years ago
Yeah, ATI Is awesome :P.. NV Fanboys are probably pissed.. u can get 2 4870's for $300USD and run them on Crossfire, it'll go faster then 4890 and GTX 285, and it'll still cost less :P.. I'm actually running 2X 4870's :]
Yamcha67 2 years ago
performance vs price. ati cant catch up with the technology nvidia has.
grimlord5654 2 years ago
You mean Physx? thats the only thing nvidia has that ati doesn't.. but then again nvidia bought it from Ageia.. which is why nvidia is supported with 3d monitors.. which is great, but other then that ATI all the way imo.. If money isn't a problem and you want to use 3d monitors then by all means go with nvidia...
Yamcha67 2 years ago
nvidia is good in physics, ati is good in anti-aliasing, which one do you prefer?
ChiaKaCheng 2 years ago
But in MD5 and WPA(2) cracking is ATi still x-times faster :P :D
Zimiorg 2 years ago
FTW u are wrong really. Ati have Havok physics engine too, but PhysX is more commercialized really. Good at anti-aliasing? Remember the HD3000 series???
Romulus47plus1 2 years ago
Yeah i forgot about that, ATI Does have better AA, I didnt know about the Havok Physics.. that means ATI is better :], I myself have 2 4870's running crossfire.. ATi is cheaper and performs faster..
Yamcha67 2 years ago
Problem is physX is everywhere, not Havok(hl2, done by cpu)
Yet there are only a few major titles adopting it now(i mean physX), so it's not really a big buy factor for me.
ATI, nVidia, I don't care, which card have the better price/performance ratio, I'll buy it.
Currently proud owner of a 8800GTS (G92) :D
Romulus47plus1 2 years ago
same, I don't care for physX much, but for me price does matter though, and thats why I have an AMD Dragon system :P
Yamcha67 2 years ago 2
yea ati does a great job for bang for buck, although i don't have an amd processor, i still use ati cards sometimes.

Delivering physics in games is no easy task. It's an extremely compute-intensive environment based on a unique set of physics algorithms that require tremendous amounts of simultaneous mathematical and logical calculations.
grimlord5654 2 years ago
This is where NVIDIA® PhysX™ Technology and GeForce® processors come in. NVIDIA PhysX is a powerful physics engine which enables real-time physics in leading edge PC and console games. PhysX software is widely adopted by over 150 games, is used by more than 10,000 registered users and is supported on Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.
grimlord5654 2 years ago
But the Xbox 360 uses an ATI card...
dingumfCallofDuty 2 years ago
PhysX is a software.
PhysX on ATI effort gets helping hand from NVIDIA..
grimlord5654 2 years ago
sounds like somone from Nvidia. and yeah the Xbox360 uses PhysX and has an ATI card wich means that ATI cards can handle PhysX just fine. its just that Nvidia owns it and they thinks its so awesome. well its not because it can run or the CPU and Cpus are getting more powerful every year. Nvidia Fail

on Core i7 Set-up. thats why there is a crossfire technology embeded on it.
cry cry to ati without physX technology. good move ati.
