Yes, it is quite amazing that this show originated from Compton, Ca. When I first found this out, I couldn't believe it. The list of talent that appeared on this show while it was on the air was mind boggling, i.e. Johnny Cash, Eddie Cochran, etc., just to name a couple. Now, look at what you get out of the same place. A rap group like N.W.A. along with a bunch of gang bangers/hoodlums. What the heck happened??? It's just unfathomable. Unfortunately, the dumbing down of America continues.
Lorrie is soo pretty and talented, Larry is an amazing rockin kid. I can not understand why this duo did not become bigger stars. Maybe they need some of their own good material?
it's because the only kids that become noticed have sold out to publicity... without the media and the backing of big name recording studios, you're just a passing name...
Wow, this is really amazing! This kid has obviously originated the "Pogo" which until now was credited to the late Sid Viscous, circa 1977. I would also give him credit for "the Skate" widely practiced by ska fans world wide since the early eighties.
LIL "Larry is HOPPING" bet you couldnt hold him down with CHAINS!!!He Picks better than most grownups thats had years of exp. Sincerely Eyan South Carolina.
I just found these videos two days ago and WOW!!!, can these kids rock!!! Pure talent at it's best, they are both great, but that little guy is something else. You can tell he eats, breathes, lives to play the guitar/perform. At the start of each song he can't wait to get going and looks like he's ready to jump out of his socks. At the end of each performance you can tell he is looking for approval for a job well done whether it's a nod/smile from sis or a kiss on the cheek from Joe Maphis. Cool!
Thing that gets me about this outfit when listening to their recordings and also watching stuff posted here is it really looks & sounds like they are just having a BLAST. There's a sheer joy to the music that is hard to find.
Johnny Ramone of the Ramones also played the Mosrite...To see the Collins Kids bee-boppin' is TRULY a blessing - and should be an inspiration to music lovers of all ages. To jt123egypte - you stupid friggin' moron - you are a supreme douche bag. You call this "shit by a bunch of amateurs"? Your comment isn't worth the shit excreted by a feculent gutter slut...God Bless The Collins Kids!
to: supermanos01: i agree with you. Anyone that thinks this is "amature" and shit must not be a musician. Also, you have to see it in the context of the time too. This act has just about everything you'd want in a performance... youth, energy, talent, good lookin girl (very talented too)...AND...they look like they are having the time of their lives doing it.
Both guitars The Collins Kids are using were custom made by a company I believe was known as Mosrite. They also built Larry a double neck electric, the same guitar which was used and endorse by Joe Maphis who played lead on Ricky Nelson's earliest recordins before the great James Burton came on the scene.
They may have been custom made, but mosrite sold lots of guitars including the Ventures models. Deke Dickerson today plays a custom made doubleneck just like Joe Maphis' but it is not a Mosrite.
At the risk of sounding too geeky - what kind of guitar is Lorrie playing? It doesn't quite look like anything else I've ever seen, and I can't seem to get any info on the internet. It looks a bit like a Gibson dreadnought with a Fender Telecaster neck? Weird.
I'll probably catch untold grief for expressing this thought, but I've long felt Lorrie could've not only held her own but contributed her share to a rock and roll duet with Presley in that era.
I used to go watchthe Collins Kids at Town Hall Party where my dad sold tickets and I used to go watch the shows from backstage when I was about 8 years old. The music I heard there shaped my entire life.
I first discovered The Kids on compilation albums when I was a teenager. They were great, but I never saw them perform a full song on video until YT. They were amazingly talented and had so much fun, I can't watch The Kids without getting a big grin on my face. We won't see their kind today, probably never again.
why does this seem so much more genuine than the "child stars" of today? could it be that they really loved making music, and not just the idea of "being a star"? chould it be that they really had talent and not an army of producers and publicists to turn the knobs and sort through pictures to make them sound good and look cool.
This is truly a wonderful example and great energy that the Collins Kids possessed. We have made it the 'Rock-it Radio video pick of the week' in our weekly newsletter this week. Thank you so much for sharing and putting online this great piece of Rock and Roll history online.
Larry was absolutely amazing. A lot of people can play great guitar, but not many can play great AND perform the way he did.Chuck Berry and Angus Young got NOTHIN' on Larry. How in the world is he able to dance around like that AND nail those bends?
And ya'll are right: Lorrie was one sexy hillbilly gal. Ricky sure had good taste, didn't he? :)
Hot Damn, Lorrie is gorgeous and can sing. Wonder why she didn't become the female Elvis of the 50's? Maybe if she was a solo act back then she would've been more popular.

Wow, I was born too late in this world! I can't help but enjoy these Collin Kids videos tonight! Phenomenal energy & stage presence. Bravo!!!
This performance is the pinnacle of human civilization. Aliens might see this, decide the planet isn't worth invading, and it would only show they don't understand us in the first place. Larry nails the E7 in the turnaround. Yeah baby!! What a natural, fun rapport between Lorrie and Larry.
I remember them well. May have been at this performance. Great memories.
