This looks so nice, I really want one. Do you think this would serve as a good replacement for an actual Wacom Cintiq? I'm thinking about selling mine to get money for this Asus.
@SteffSoft I had never used a Cintiq before so I cannot answer your question. I have considered buying a Cintiq for 2 years, but could not justify the expense. This EP121 worth every penny, especially for the portability. My daughter has taken it to other countries and drew on airplanes.
It looks like the response time for the stylus is a bit slow. Does photoshop lag behind the stroke slighty? I am concerned about this, as one of the main reasons for buying this tablet would be for photoshop/art/drawing capability.
@DAROMSninja I don't have photoshop installed so I cannot comment on your specific question. My daughter uses SAI Paint Tool to draw manga and she does not feel any lag. I use the bulit-in Artrage to do recreational drawings and I don't feel any lag either. It may depend on the type of drawing that you do.
i like the portability of this compared to the cintiq12WX.. but is the quality and versatility less than the cintiq12WX? they have the same price range so i want one of the other.
@atlaswingpasaway I have never used a cintiq before so I can't do a fair comparison. Before buying this, I compared the specs of cintiq and this. It seems that this tablet does everything cintiq does and more. There is accuracy problems near screen edges. But I heard that cintiq has similar problems. In case you don't know, this tablet uses wacom digitizer technology.
Hi. I just bought this today. It's pretty cool. But I don't have any pressure on Paint Tool Sai. I've read the comments below and you said you updated Windows and installed Fujitsu Wacom Driver? Can any Fujitsu Driver works? Do you have any link for it? Many thanks! :)
@slplktr Someone in an art forum mentioned Fujitsu driver for EP121 so I downloaded all versions I could possibly find. Some of them crashed the PC and I had to reinstall the OS. The one works for me has a file name called "PEN_WACOM_V.3.0.2.5_WIN7-64_CA41534-5576.EXE". Sorry I don't remember the source link. This file is in my backup hard drive so this is the only information I have.
@marattacks - I have not tried Photoshop. But I tried the newest version of CorelDRAW and it was fine on this PC. Sorry for no direct answer to your question.
Hi I'm Cintiq 12wx user and I'm considering buying this. Tthe Cintiq is ultra smooth, but I could barely tell the difference from my old Ultrapad Wacom tablet that I got in 1998; I'd like to try that tablet again to compare, but I can not make the serial port work on my new computer. Btw, could you tell me how much battery time shows the windows icon at full charge, with wifi and bluetooth off and screen brightness at about 50%? Thank you. Also, I'd LOVE to watch more videos of you using Sai.
@tonihott2 - I followed the settings you requested and got 3 hours 50 minutes for the remaining time. One thing I do not understand, though. The battery always shows 96% at most, even when it is fully charged. But when we use some battery applications to test it, the battery is okay without any wear-out.
If you use SAI, one thing you may want to consider - we installed Fujitsu driver so that SAI can work. But sometimes we have booting problems which may come from driver incompatibility.
@iceloop2 Many thanks, 5 hours would have been nice, but 4 is still ok, though. Sai is fast and seems very responsive with this tablet. I'd love to test it if it comes to my country. I how wacom releases proper drivers too.
@iceloop2 Hi again. If it's not asking too much... could you tell me the battery time also with the webcam disabled? I mean, turned off from drivers menu. It should give you more extra minutes, I hope. Thank you again.
@tonihott2 - We got 4 hours this time for a fully charged battery. When we disabled the webcam from device manager, the time actually dropped to 3.5 hours! I don't know how it can be possible. But if you don't mind dimmer display - I set the brightness to the lowest level and got 4.5 hours. For your information, EP121's 50% brightness equals to my Dell notebook's full brightness. EP121's lowest brightness setting is still brighter than Dell's 50% brightness and it is pretty much viewable.
@iceloop2 Many thanks, I think you say the 4 hour time is with webcam off isn't it? 4 hours certainly is much better and I don't think I will ever use the cam while drawing. I had the idea because my netbook got quite better battery life with the webcam off.
@tonihott2 - No, 4 hours is with the webcam enabled (but not actively being used). When I disabled webcam driver, I got half hour less time, which is weird because as you said, it should yield more battery time. I don't know the reason for this.
@iceloop2 That's certainly weird. On my netbook the battery meter also goes down a bit after I just turned off things, maybe because I was moving windows, the sdd drive was working a bit while I was disabling it... and I have to wait some seconds before I get a more exactly battery reading. Don't know if this could be the reason.
How would you compare it to a Cintiq? I have a Cintiq12wx, and I love it, but I wish it was self-contained and didn't have a giant cable and interface device attached to it.
@AliveSigns - I don't have a Cintiq. In fact, I was considering buying a Cintiq or this until I saw a comparison video on YouTube. Then I decided to buy this.
We have not tried Photoshop yet. I have read that Photoshop runs fine on this PC. This video shows a much cheaper program called SAI Paint Tool ($50 or so). EP121 also has ArtRage built in.
@Likota1986 - It is pretty accurate and responsive after we installed Fujitsu's wacom driver. I think Asus should have provided their own driver for EP121. This hardware is excellent for the price (we had considered Cintiq seriously) but driver support is not quite there yet.
@Stashmyash - Sorry we cannot find this information on the Slate. I think it is at least 256. My daughter said it feels the same as her old graphire (512 levels). But these are just our guesses....
We needed Windows Update and Fujitsu's wacom driver to make pressure sensitivity work. It's a bit trouble but once it worked, it is good.
Does it have pen pressure sensitivity?
