They are indeed difficult with that double pedalling in this piece and left hand shift. These pieces always remind me of wedding music or perhaps evensong on a summers evening. Maybe Whitlock had that dreamy Delius nature his music is certainly challenging to play. Sad though that not many organist's play his compositions as much as they were fashionable back in there hey day.
The piece was composed in homage to Frederick Delius. It deliberately imitates his style. This is a faultless performance. The music is harder to play well than it may appear to someone who has not struggled with it!
I love Thalben-Ball's rubato...just right, it seems to me!
His playing is expressive, yet in a very natural way.
