Ya know what!! This is exactly who I aspire to to be on the harmonica's..everyone can play blues but to have the diversity is a wonderful thing...Now I know why he's a player's player.!
Norton and Roy are two of the most heart felt, inspiring and talented musicians ever! I can't wait to get home and see you boys again! What a show!!!!
You can say that again. I moved to another country a few years ago but having known these guys personally and professionally for 20+ years really makes want to go back to Marin and see/hear them again. Both at the peak of their craft and at the same time easy going, down to earth and personable, a rare combination in the music industry.
I'm having some technical problems here... let me try that again. The two Stamped LP's for Capitol were "Lovin' In The Valley Of The Moon" and "Desert Horizon". The band was also on Austin City Limits in 1979. That's the video I referred to in my previous comment. I'd love to find a copy of that or see it on YouTube. Thanks for this video, bsarles!! Too bad there aren't more Norton B videos available... what a great musician.
Roy mentions Norton's old band, The Stampede, in this video. That was a great band. They did two LP's for Capitol been hoping to find it for years. I wrote an e-mail to the address at the A.C.L. website, but got no response. If anybody knows anybody who might have this video, please drop me a note here at YouTube or post a message here.
I saw Norton in Maui(2005).He is THE BEST harp player on the planet. I had a shit eatin' grin from ear to ear for the whole show! I was laughin' and cryin',it was so good! God bless you, Norton, you da' man!!
I stood spellbound at a small club in Santa Cruz one evening in the late 90s while roy tore up a couple of hours worth of robert johnson covers at supersonic speed.
Later, I was disappointed with an album of his originals. The man is best seen live, and is well worth it, especially when he's supercharged and ripping up the delta blues.

In the now out of print "Jazz Harp Book"
Oak publications, the two harp players that
they start to talk about are Stevie Wonder ..and Norton Buffalo.
Truly the most well rounded harp player in the history of the instrument!
