  • Let him work!

  • Why do I hear old ladies mumbling? ...

  • why are his abs crooked? i dont want my abs to look like that

  • @superfreakinawesome8 Genetics - some people have asymmetrical abdominals.

  • @Trewfyre89 omg thats horrible!! and by the time you find out you have crappy abs, youve already wasted all the time and effort to get them!!!

  • You always know you are out of shape when this makes you tired from just watching it.

  • why are his abs at differant heights? mine are similiar

  • @pulpfictionost i have it like that to there not always perfectly aligned

  • swinging his hips too much on the later reps, he probably did reps earlier so he's tired. but proper form you want to essentially lock your hips in place

  • I got the same shorts! :D

  • I don't care how "developed" your abs are. You are using to much momentum...

  • is it bad if you bend your knees? when i get tired i start to bend my knees on each lift is that cheating?

  • @murfalious its not bad but you get more of a hit on your core if you dont. but make sure you do it slow.

  • @murfalious When you bend your knees, the lever created by your legs shortens, and the load becomes easier. It is better to force reps with bent legs when you can no longer keep them straight than to stop

  • I came

  • he looks like JJ Reddick

  • exposingchristianity . com / sinning_nazarene

  • exposingchristianity

    .

    com

  • Mirin'

  • If i do this exercise with me feet up , but not hanging. Then it's the same resault right ?

  • @Neboteen1

no sir hanging from a bar while suspended works out the bottom of your stomach area and is more work and energy so that it actually gives you results if your just sitting down and doing it does nothing.

  • This and using an ab roller are the best ab exercises

  • @CerebralZombie wtf??? rookie mistake? the shape of ppls abs are genetic u moron, u can change the size of them not the shape

  • @CerebralZombie Retards gonna retard

  • i would look better if not was as white as paper

  • Form was good until you started doing the half leg lifts and started to move your lower body. Never do this as it will eventually injure your back. The only thing that should be moving during this exercise is your legs. If anything else moves you're not using proper form. Do it slow and right instead of trying to cheat the exercise.

  • Damn, Josh, you are such a man!

  • When i do this, i feel a pull on my deltoids or rotator cuffs in my shoulders is that healthy? It hurts a lot when i do hanging leg raises.

  • @Claymore2408 Its because your shoulders are not straight inline with your body & back. Well this is if you do them on a pull up bar like most people, if not then it actually might be your shoulders. If you do these with someone pushing against your shoulders to keep straight or against a wall etc you will actually feel it in your abs and it will actually do what its supposed to do.

  • @Claymore2408 That (probably) means you're moving your body too much.

    (from personal experience)

  • @BadNeighbour Thanks so any tips where I can keep my body stable and work the core?

  • I like the "Six Million Dollar Man" sound effects in between a lot of the raises.

  • whats the name of the thing he is hanging on ( you can also do it in your door way right ) thanks!

  • Bad form mate should have stopped at 10 then done another set

  • Kipping like a motherfuck towards the end.

  • Hey being that you can do that many how bout adding some weight to keep it in the 10 to 12 rep range to make your abs even stronger and bigger. you know like dumbell between feet

  • @Creekangler19 Or a medicine ball between feet/legs, and yeah I agree with Creekangler19

  • C'mon Josh !!

  • Every time I try to do these I swing too much. How do you prevent this?

  • @HjorturPwns Have a stronger core and control over your body...

  • @MarcoDutch18 These are my abs; i224 (dot) photobucket (dot) com/albums/dd250/HjorturS/13062010002 (dot) jpg. I do crunches with 25kg(55lbs) weight plates behind my neck, but I have a technical issue with HLRs. Still think I need a stronger core? I'd like a more informed answer.

  • @HjorturPwns move dead slow - which you should do for any gym work.

  • quitter!

  • keep your legs straight lad

  • why is joshbrownfitnessdotcom pointing right at his junk?

  • see the problem is you need abs just to do these babies...

  • he dont even breath properly hahahaha

  • Leg raises with slow and perfect form is the greatest ab exercises ever, next situps comes but leg raises trains more muscles and is more funktional :)

  • i hate the guy who kept on sayin come on josh..

  • remember to breath when you exert force!!

  • @cedster93

NO NO NO NO. THIS IS NOT TRUE. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS "I GOT ADVICE FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL GYM TEACHER" IDIOT.

When your call stalls in the middle of the highway and you have to push it out of the way or risk dying or killing someone, do you take a deep breath and exhale as you push the car for life or death? No, you hold your breath and take quick breaths inbetween. You will not breath normally until you are out of danger.

You DO NOT exhale when you are doing big weight.

  • HECK OF A JOB BROWNY

  • i would advice buying the contour belt lol

  • lol my arms got tired reaaaaaaally quickly because i was doing them on my iron gym.

  • these make you hot after around 10 reps. but i got a six pack after losing some weight and doing this.

  • his form does not go shiv at 30 sec. he pulls his knees closer to lighten the load so he can get in a few more reps. poor form would be swinging the weight of your legs up. also someone asked about having a low bar, well bring your legs up then back down as far as you can with straight legs until your toes are a few inches off the floor. you wont get the stretch after every lift but you can stretch when the workout is over. doing this will also keep the load on your abs throughout the workout.

  • hmm how should i go about doing these on my bar? cuz i can hang on the bar while my feet are still touching the ground :S

  • Does leg raises also help with the v cut around the hips??

  • The point is, lifting your legs up = not very hard. Using your abs to control the tension in your body against gravity/forces in motion = hard.

  • whats sad is that i just finished getting my six pak and i had never known out bout these excercises

  • is it just me or did his form completely go into the shitter at :30?

  • @viper1991

You could call it stripping. The same way one can do weight exersices and reduce the weight when at max reps. Here you could think straight legs gives the biggest resistance. You can start bending your knees and it gets easier and easier.

  • @kosseh yeah that makes sense.

  • @viper1991 wrong, its called pulse ups. another form of working out the abs.

  • there are 30 ridiculously jealous people on youtube

  • Hanging leg raises and reversal curl is the best exercise for ripped abs. They are hard but super effective. It also prevent the 'meat head/doorman ' look muffin top and gives you sexy ripped athletic upper body. You can just start with 1or 2 reps in good form and increase the reps gradually. I do this everytime as my warm up exercise three times a week. Great video.

  • Hey I'm doing mine right but I'm getting no burn

  • i noticed he switched form @ 0:31 when he started raising with his knees, does that focus the upper abs more than the straight legs which i guess focuses the lower abs more? someone please explain the transition for me I'm beginning my 6 pack journey next week :D

  • @joepescifromcasino Not really... Those leg raises he was doing in the first 30 seconds are waaaaaaaay to hard to do for most people. Even someone as ripped as this guy wont be able to do a lot of em. raising the knees are less hard then the leg full stretched...

  • ive found that you can counteract the swinging if you use your shoulders a bit. im not sure how to explain it, but i think your arms go from | to \ facing <- that direction.

  • that was sum gud form right there! congrats

  • You do ileo-psoas with this exercice not abdominal

  • cool workout, although there is something strange about his abs..

  • you really shouldnt hold wour breath .

i can tell that propably wasnt the first set and you were tired , but i also wouldnt prefer the reps over form .

  • my friend used to have some fat over him and he told me when he worked out the ab workout he did is this and he got abs.he ate what he wanted too.

all he did is this and it did lower that belly and i saw his abs. i was like i got to start doing them.

advice to people: if you want to have 2 exercise that work the abs and obliques.

    1-Hanging leg raises/hanging knee raises.

2-bicycle maneuver or you can say air bike.

  • how many reps should be done??

  • Making the transition from using the Captain's Chair to hanging leg raises (hlr). Doing my first set the other day, it felt like hlr's hit my upper abs a lot harder than the captain's chair did. Also, it was harder to keep my legs straight while raising them; my knees bent somewhat involuntarily. Not sure if that was a flexibility issue, or just exercise is difficult for now.

  • @MaxwellSDSU When you first start your legs will bend alot, which is good as long as you're not swinging. Soon you'll be able to control your legs and keep them straight. I try to keep them straight for as many reps I can, and start to bend them until my knees are at 90 degrees as I go to failure. Hope that helps

  • @Nerevar1990 can i do this after running ?say after 30 minutes of running. how many should i do?

  • @6pikolo I would do your strength training and abs before cardio. That's the smartest way. At the beginning of the workout you use your energy reserves which is better for your strength training and you use more fat reserves at the end which is best to do cardio. I may be off but the general principal is the same. You need multiple good ab exercises. Bicycles, crunches and leg raises are good. I'd say 4 sets of each with as many reps you can do, 1 minute rest between each. 2 times a week

  • tooooo fast much too fast

  • Alright that's awesome but I have a question, if my pull up bar is too low for me to hang my legs, what's an alternative exercise that will do the same thing for me? lying leg raises?

  • I can't do these cause my left shoulder is bad. I stretched some ligements in it while i was boxing...

  • @rk448 they work slightly different muscles. Hanging leg raises are typically harder for people, but it's wise to do both.

  • @rk448 leg raise..but its way harder

  • Nice workout. Can see that your beautiful abs are working.

  • i find it harder on the back when ur pulling up a bit and not hanging.

  • looks like jj reddick

  • um just one question guys: we use a pull-up bar or not? If not, would it be appropriate?

  • I do leg raises off the turret of my TANK!

  • @TankWorkouts Dude that is one of the most bad ass things i've ever heard hahaha

  • @TankWorkouts

i do them off the shell while it's on its way to the target! then i cum... like arnold!

  • Now are you trying to keep your legs straight or can you just focus on getting your knees to your chest? cause he switches and i dont know how youre supposed to properly do these

  • i mean really josh, Come on

  • lol@ the cameraman

  • umm..it seems i am in the midst of body-builders here so pardon me if this comes across as a dumb question...is this exercise as effective if i do it in one of those structures where the body-weight is supported by our arms on arm-rests..1 advantage i feel with this routine is that there is no scope of swinging as my body ends up being aligned with the back-rest at the starting position. i can feel my lower abs hurting wen i do the leg-raise but still wanted to confirm that its a valid exercise

  • i love this exercise, specially the way it flexes my whole abdominal section and just makes it burrrrrrn

  • i cant do that this dude is buff he's cheating T_T

  • is that jj reddick?

  • is that jj reddick?!!!!!!!!

  • I would be in the same shape if i would have someone who is telling me "come on josh" in every single video !!!!

  • Why do you bend your legs at the end?

  • @hockeychickadee Because you will get tired with your legs extended.

  • @hockeychickadee I think he was doing a different exercise then - a hanging knee raise, a good idea, as it would allow him to keep working his abs with a slightly less intense exercise than the leg raises.

  • If i do this 3 times per week when i will see results?

  • @frank3c03 is that a serious question or are you joking?

  • thumbs up for 2 by 3 abs... great body though

  • during this is it important to keep your legs straight or can u bend slightly ? i wanna bring my abs out for summer i find crunches not worth the time ive just looked around and this was recomended i also do a lot of knee raise so if sum1 can answer my question ill apricate it thanks in advance.peace

  • @MadeInTheNineties keepin ur legs out just increases the difficulty and increases how much u work ur abs do like he does do as many with ur legs out as u can then start to bring them in when it gets to hard they both work ur abs keepin ur legs out is like increasing the weight

  • @bobwatters cheers mate got it covered now i dont use a chin bar though i use the "captins chair" < dunno what else to call it lol i do about 4 sets of knee raises and 4 sets of theese as above i do try to keep my legs straight did it on wed before training and i gotta say my abs were killing me so i know its working cheeres again mate ;).

  • Best ab exercise. EVER.

  • @Mastermindr47 i agree 100%.. its the only ab exercise i do

  • Check out my abs, hanging leg raises builds 6 pack abs without having to do any crunches or sit ups.

  • @JxT1957 no, a good diet builds 6-8packs =/

  • @MrRastaAssassin yes.. actually its a combination of diet and ab work

  • @JxT1957 So long as you have a hanging bar :P

  • @JxT1957 Im not saying you cant grow them with 1 exercise but its still the best to use all three of exercisements there are. And those are

    - hanging leg raise

    - bench crunch combined with normal crunch ( you can even put weights behind your head to make it heavier)

    - side crunch

Those three will give the abs if you train frequently

  • @JxT1957 One might actually call a hanging leg raise a form of crunch since the spine flexes if you do a leg-hip raise.

Otherwise it stabilizes isometrically to hold position since as the legs go out front they want to make the spine hyperextend.

  • I got abs like that, too. I've accepted the fact that nothing can be done about it, and I'm happy about the fact that they are visible. :D

  • it looks like the abs are zig-zagging up (no offense) Its just what I think your abs look like. I don't mean to be rude at you

  • @Chavacito32 It's all genetics

  • this same exersize as a captains chair?

  • I feel bad for the guy, genetics gave him crooked abs...

  • @ssaalleeeemm yep, im the exact same way.....sooo annoying, worst part is u cant do anything about it

  • try not to swing for a better work out if you have to don't lower your legs all the way

  • look at you, champ.

  • now remember that this shit wont work if u eat at wendy's everyday

  • pretty damn bad form. your using wayyy too much momentum there and not keeping your legs perfectly straight. use very slow and textbook form to build real, functional strength and conditioning.

  • @cookiefarrell His legs are pretty straight to begin with, he may just not be strong enough to keep them straight for his entire set. Bent knees are a way to modify the exercise and allow you to go to complete failure.

    His form isn't bad, tbh.

  • how do you keep your body stationary

when I do it my body keeps swinging

  • When I first started doing them, I swung like crazy too and didn't understand how people stayed so in control. I couldn't do them without putting my foot down to stop moving!

The key is to focus on bringing your legs up with your abs and not swing them up and around (i.e. up and down NOT around in a circle).

Lay on the ground and raise your legs. See how controlled your upper body was? Do the same on the bar. Your arms/shoulders may have to slightly adjust to keep your upper body stationary.

  • Great tip! :)

  • @eepruls ya i noticed that too

  • @eepruls exactly, I mean I tried them for the first time yesterday and I couldn't help swinging... It was so discouraging, especially considering how well in shape I am. I see people with much less training experience handle hanging leg raises with much more ease. :(

  • @eepruls yeah, also make sure you get your legs as high as possible, meaning knees to chest if you are doing them with bent knees (i usually switch to bent knees as im reaching failure) that way you are crunching your abs.

  • @eepruls i agree 100%. my biggest problem was swinging as i came down. i found it much esier to stay still if i came down slowly.

  • you'll get used to it. everyone swings at first.

  • Im keep it by doing it slow and holding at end section to avoid inertia otherwise its pointless

  • Comment removed

  • @lampuiho you need to build up your stabilising muscles with practise

  • those are very very hard to do. trust me. its hard

  • @Jaz7s

    hard to do properly

  • can you do them on the floor ? i seen some kid do it and his abs are ripped nomo

  • do you just do these on a pull up bar?

  • @AllSystems

Yeah that's what most people do. Sometimes I see people using straps to hang their arms from the bar so they don't have to hold themselves in a dead hang the whole time.

  • either on pullup bar or dip bar or on floor. dip bar are best IMHO

  • Hanging leg raises will give upper and lower abs a killer workout. Check out my abs, i never do sit ups or crunches. You can also use arm straps on the bar for support if you need them.

  • how do i get that bar thing

  • maybe you guys should pay scooby1961 a visit

  • but he shows only half ROM. you gotta go till the foot touches the head. pls believe me. dont hate

  • poor guys abs are all weird... :(

  • 10 properly executed hanging leg raises are much more effective than 100 crunches

  • probly the best form on leg raises without straps nice job

  • Finally, someone who demonstrates this correctly. A+

  • What's his diet?

  • i would say doing circuit workouts would burn the fat on your stoumach. surprised the hell outa me when situps did nill but a nice paced circuit workout did so much more

  • for the ten millionth time! you can't target fat loss! it happens all over.

  • lol it was them that started with the diet stuff i do leg raises for strength! XD

  • woww... nice form. im jealous lol

  • how do i burn my fat on my stomach

  • cardio...by runing or swimming, or doing something cardio related. if you're running, listen to ur iPod or osmething so you dont get super bored

  • can't spot reduce. take walks along with ur workouts and you'll burn extra calories. but it's all about diet

  • don't do cardio to burn your stomach fat do a combo of muscle building ab workouts and fat burning ab workouts start with something easy and work your way up to more advanced stuff but a full body workout halps burn fat around your core as well train your whole body a lot or multi muscle workouts help your core as well most importantly u need a great diet and i mean a great diet i recomend reading mens health and keep in mind when u make a plan to get in shape don't cheat yourself

  • for the ten millionth time! you can't target fat loss! it happens all over.

  • how do oyu raise your legs with out moving your body?

  • do it slowly (dont NOT use momentum to move your legs up [aka swinging your legs])

  • nice job
