Holy fucking shit, all these real people involved is just fucking blowing my mind. THat deacon was a hard ass drug kingpin for 20 years and one of the creators of the show was the one who actually arrested him? I mean who the fuck needs psychedelic drugs if you can watch the wire? Had some nos cartridges last night and I thought I had some crazy mindfucks but holy fucking shit, this is on a different level.
I went to B-More back in 2007, and how it is on the show is the same way it is in the city , I don't even consider it a show but more of an documentary. The Wire has more realism then any "reality" show or TV program you can name.
@SpectralViral I dont the the acclaim of the sopranos is in the same ballpark as the wire. The wire is just that much better. No one was safe on the wire. You knew Tony Soprano was safe at least until the end.
@SpectralViral If you think about it though, man, there's something appropriate in the Wire not making much money. Seeing as it dealt with the effects of (Western style) poverty.
@ThePrinceII That what makes this show rich in material, poor in ratings. Love how you point out that it mirrors the poverty of America; the Wire poor in ratings mirrors the poverty in America because neither one is getting the exposure that they need to tackle the even bigger problems.
I agree, while IMO I consider the "Sopranos" better then the "Wire", but when it comes to authenticity and realism, no other show in history will never even come close to what the Wire has brought us.
@shortcutbarksdale yeah, it might have had mild commercial success, but it's the kind of thing that will be watched for decades. They're teaching it at Harvard now, if that's any indication. Cheap novelty might sell at first, but quality will endure.
Loooooooooooooooooool

There are only two types of people in the world...
1) People who know The Wire is the best show in television history
2) People who've never seen The Wire

One of the most underappreciated shows ever. A show that can rival the acclaim of the sopranos, but sadly not the commercial success.

@landogray I would disagree. Both are great on their own terms.

In some ways I like how underground the show is. I like the special group of people who know how good it was.

it's only underappreciated to few people and the nut jobs who give out Emmys.
