I guess I might recognize capitalism because I have a degree in Political Science from a conservative university. I might also know freedom and what the USA REALLY stands for...4 year active duty and 6 years active reserve in the best military service in the whole world. I am saying that real freedom is not 45 million people uninsured. That's not what the USA I served for means. Are you really proud to call that the best health care system in the world?

Yeah thats what I'm saying. First, its NOT 45 million its closer to 15million(Minus the illegals*wink*). Many of those are young people who opt NOT to pay for insurance but COULD afford it.

Second, Your creds don't impress me b/c I also hold a BA in Political Science & a Masters in public administraion, as well as 17 years law enforcement.

Third, how could you call a Gov't overtaking, running, administering, & making decisions about healthcare "freedom"?

I wasn't trying to impress you with my credentials, just give you an idea that I do know what I'm talking about with freedom and capitalism. I guess you when you have the chance to decline having health insurance, that's "choice". But if you want it and can't get it, that's "healthcare freedom"? I grew up without insurance and didn't get any until I joined the Navy at 19. I don't think my parents were impressed that they sometimes couldn't send us kids to the doctor.

Our system is in need of reform. We need healthcare INSURANCE reform, we need to reign in sue-happy lawyers, we need to reign in greedy hospitals & Doctors & we need to REFUSE to treat illegal aliens at our hospitals. The latter is the biggest problem.

Gov't taking over yet another sector of the economy ISN'T the answer! All they want is POWER & CONTROL.

Friends in the UK & Canada say thier system sucks.

At the moment I live in Germany and our system is not perfect but it is far from sucking. I pay 8% of my gross pay, my boss pays 7% and then I have access to a good system. Co-pay is 10 EUR a quarter to see the GP, he can refer me to specialists as need be. Hospital stay is 10 per night. Prescriptions cost 10 max. Undocumented people can't get a health card. Gov't keeps an eye on the insurance companies (almost 200 to choose from...) but don't get involved in running them.

When the British politicians feel the heat from their citizens about long waiting lists, they offer the patients flights to German clinics to be treated (mostly hip and knee replacements). I don't think we have waiting lists here, but I did have a hard time finding a dermatologist to treat my plantar warts on my feet. Turns out the treatment hurts more than the warts do.
