Cool video.I agree with unschooling people can b smarter than there parents even wen there under 10.people need 2b free and choose wat and how they learn.
@schmeeling I was educated in a fine boarding school. and an excellent college.
I also stuggle speaking verbally. Why? Because the parts of the brain dealing with knowledge and producing speech are two seperate areas. Perhaps that child was nervous?
Your inability to show "outside the box" insight is demonstrative of the typical "taught to the test" education that is so common in schools.
@Treemeadow Yeah nervous that he's gonna say the wrong thing in front of his parents, and yes that is just my opinion, it doesn't mean I am wrong though. Also if those parts of the brain being separate had anything to do with it, everyone would struggle with sentences like that. So that was completely irrelevant. Also I am studying psychology where thinking out the box is very important, if you had done it you wouldn't have judged me on one comment!
Public schooling with an ATTENTIVE parent works just fine and provides opportunities unavailable through social education.
And I wouldn't hype the ability of a 7 year old to left hand the same chord while right handing a basic scale as evidence of the effectiveness of Unschooling.
I find those of you who support this almost as unsettling as those who do not vaccinate their children.
@spleenblender I'm sorry. How many chords on the piano could you play when you were 7? If you tell me you could play proficiently at that age then you are either a liar, a prodigy or at the very least way out of the norm.
@melcabral I'm not going to wag my or anyone else's dick here since it is rather pointless, being that there is no way to verify. But when I was 7 I was playing at least as good as that. I don't care if you think I'm lying, but it is far from prodigious as you claim I believe.
Way out of the norm, maybe. But that is why I get paid the big bucks.
@spleenblender well I will give you that. There is no way to verify unless you happen to have footage, but it is definitely out of the norm. What people have to realize is Unschooling doesn't claim genius, it is simply another valid way to educate a child that is at the very LEAST just as effective and can be better for many.
Here is my stand. Schools at the moment don't prepare you for college or life really at all. So if you take off all borders, then how will the child be prepared for life? I mean how will they be ready for real life? For example your kid will go to a job, and when asked to do the paperwork the kid'll answer 'don't push me, I'll do it at my own pace." Well your kid will be without a job then, because s/he will never learn how to work under any sort of pressure.
@Losuol I NEED water, I NEED food... and I always have... My body has naturally pressured me to find the food and drink the water when I NEEDed it.....
When I left my parents, I NEED water, I NEED food, and I now NEED money & a job....................... dealing with pressure is a natural skill................... these kids will learn :)
@allendupras Most gas stations wont even hire you if you don't have a highschool diploma.
They could be fucking lil Einsteins, but their resumes will still be complete shit. These children will not grow up to be successful no matter how much they learn because this society is too school centric.
no there shouldn't. your kids should do wat they want at all times. eventually when they need money they can pick up a trade and get money. most trades only take reading 1 to 2 books. fucking easy so no need to stress unless ur kids cant read
i have connected hs'ers and other unschoolers (we are radical unschoolers) by simply feeling a certain vibration from them. it is a beautiful thing when my hunch that they arehs'ers is confirmed. so cool. these kids aremuch more connective and have amazing integrity.
@Treemeadow he didn't communicate well with anyone else though, the majority of that sentence made no sense and he also showed how his parents forced him into that kind of education. He was saying what he really thought then tried to cover it up for his parents in my opinion.
@Treemeadow by 'anyone else' I meant the people watching the video. That sentence was about 3 times longer than it needed to be and still didn't make much sense. By the way the fact that I can't validate what I said is why I said 'IN MY OPINION!!!' I never tried to make out it was a fact.

I wonder why people keep putting a "p" in "sumpthing" when the word is "something". Funny.
CurtHowland 1 year ago
@CurtHowland Because the transition from MM to TH is the same as a hard P and you have to consciously not push air out your lips to not sound it.

@spleenblender "you have to consciously not push air out your lips to not sound it."
.
Exactly. It was a rhetorical question to lead people to the obvious answer: People Don't Think.

see how well that boy communicates with his mom, looking her in the eye, expressing himself. Unlike a lot of young teenage boys I know.

@Treemeadow Because the avoiding eye-contact part signifies distrust.

A lot of young teens don't trust their parents and don't have great relationships.

@schmeeling What do you mean "anyone else". There were only two ppl in that scene.
I don't think you're assertion has any validation- I don't see any proof for what you're saying apart from that its what you want to thinl.
