I would find it next to impossible to sing a song about a loved one who passed only a few years back. In that respect, this reminds me of "Here Today" by Paul McCartney, about Lennon.

There is a live version of this from Abbey Road studios recorded in 2005. Stevie touches on the song's origins and Syreeta. He gets choked up, but he still performs the song flawlessly. It's on Youtube, just search for "You and I Live".
