  • The airport was probably at a groundstop when the tornado went through.

  • What type of aircraft were you in?

  • This is the stuff that should cause an airport to shut down in Georgia not snow.

  • Man, I wish you'd included the ATC coms at the time it was passing the airport. Probably something ATC doesn't normally communicate. I wonder what ATIS had on at the time?!

I thought I read an FAR that videoing from a commercial cockpit during critical flight phases was not allowed? Or maybe that airlines don't allow it or something similar.

Were you thinking "what will we do if it is coming this way?" I mean, not a whole lot a commercial airliner can do & a tornado would toss it like a toy.

  • Yes, it is called sterile cockpit and there is no unnecessary conversation that is not safety related below 10,000 feet. However, that should not apply due to the fact that the engines had been shut down for over an hour an the ATC tower had been evacuated. We did make the comment that we would try and start the engines. Don't what good that would have done...but you always go down fighting :)

  • You know you live in Oklahoma when the tornado sirens go off and everyone is on their porches.

  • @poopsyproductions I'm from Nebraska, and have been a hard core chaser for over 20 yrs. I'll tell ya', that's pretty much true all up and down tornado alley. Then, there are those on the other side of it that jump into their cellar every time a black cloud goes overhead. I had a grandfather like that. He was just plain terrified of tornadoes. He was from Nebraska and S.Dakota. Guess he saw too much when he was younger, and it stayed with him.

  • That is a rain wrapped tornado!Rain wrapped tornadoes are Extremely Dangerous and deadly because the roar is muffled be the pounding rain and thus hard to tell that it is coming at you.

  • probably rain wrapped definetly something bad

  • They should hold the planes and not allow any takeoffs. All planes should remain at the gate under these conditions.

  • Awesome video of ATL's bad WX back in March.

  • Odd that in the whole video there wasn't a single bolt of lightning

  • Yeah, you think in clounds looking like that, lol.

  • It's hard to see tornadoes in the south because they are almost always completely rain-wrapped.

  • must be pretty scary. have you ever seen an f5?

  • green skies...tornado

  • I don't really think that's a tornado. There is no rotation in any of the clouds. Clearly, it is a shelf cloud though and can possibly spawn a tornado, but this doesn't look like one.

  • Not a shelf. A wall, lowering base. You can hardly see rotation from that far away with that quality camera. Inside there there was a funnel or tornado on the ground.

  • There is rotation, and it is a funnel cloud, not a tornado.

  • From this video it looks like the funnel could be on the ground.

  • I feel sorry for any plane that was still in the air...

  • how scary.........geesh....Im petrified of these kind of things

  • Yes, I was in the plane. That video was taken from the flight deck.

  • Great video! Unfortunately, the cloud in this video is a wall cloud, from which tornadoes generally form under....However, it is possible that there is a rain-wrapped tornado or funnel cloud under this; It's just impossible to tell due to precipitation.

The "WSB-TV Atlanta Tornado" video isn't actually a tornado, either. It's the same thing.

  • Come to Oklahoma and youll find random ass weather! One week its snow next you have tornados! Thats why i love it!!!!

  • same thing here in illinois.

  • Scary picture, but...I don't see any rotation. Could be a tornado further back in that storm, though.

  • do you have done this video, because i have got a question...

  • I was at Atlanta Medical Center when the first tornado's hit Atlanta. Looking out the windows i could see the activity and part of the funnel cloud

  • cool video man!!! It's awesome how you can clearly see the funnel cloud forming!!

  • i live in columbia,sc but i was traveling on i-77 from charlotte when that same storm hit i-77 it brought hail but about 10 miles ahead of us a tornado cross the road it was scary that day but it was AWSOME @ the same time.:)

    i love storms and tornadoes.

  • I was taking off from ATL before they grounded all air traffic. We had to bank hard left to dodge this monster. I was scared to death.

  • i was waitressing and the tornado went right through oakland cemetary in front of the restaurant. we had to get under the tables. peeking up, i saw that the sky was green. 27 trees fell in that cemetary. it was devestating.

  • i live in greenwood sc and i was eating at chilis and all the sudden the sky turned green orange and black (im only twelve) but i love tornadoes and it was sooooo cool to see a real tornado about 100 yards away from it and my parents were like Hayden come on get inside hurry but i went outside and watched the tornado for lime 10 minutes IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • I was there that day that was the hardest rain ive ever sean yow srry bout spelling

  • so u probably live in or near atlanta..i live i live in douglasville and im a student pilot myself trying to go 2 school 2 become a comercial pilot..u guys fly over my house on final base and/or downwind when landing on the 8, 9, or 10 rwys..i was wondering what your prcedures are if there are bad storms say over west atl b/c i hear katl traffic all the time still flying even when the tornado sirens are going off here.

  • the same storm hit aiken sc tornado just missed my house it was scary as hell. but he sky turned green so that was cool

  • I was in Cheraw,South Carolina and a tornado touched down on Highway#9.I

  • i was scared

  • me too! i hate tornadoes!

  • thats a rain shaft with scud in front of it. IF there is a tornado going on during the time of this video it is not visible - must be behind the rain.

  • i should have been there

  • wow! you can actually see the green

  • thats not a funnel it already hit the ground

  • so are you a pilot??..if so thats cool

  • Yes, I am. I took that with my digital camera from the cockpit.

  • What airline do you work for and how long have you been working there?

  • I wonder how many planes are lined up here?

  • There are about 50 airplanes in line. 90% have their engines shutdown, even if we wanted to move and go back to the gate, the event would be over before the engines were started. Plus the airport is closed and there are no ramp handlers to park the planes.

  • Wow! Crazy. So what if the tornado actually struck the airfield?

  • idots its a funnel cloud theres no need to take cover

  • Stupid, of course you do. It has the potential to BECOME A TORNADO!

  • This is A SHELF CLOUD

  • Thats crazy, but I guess pilots no longer has fear of anything. Maybe I should become a pilot.

  • why in god's name are you sitting in the airplane. GO TAKE COVER! I guess you think you can fly yo way out of this one huh? LOL

  • holy shit...that's a scary looking cloud. And inside that cockpit...was it from CRJ?

  • Yes, it was from a CRJ.

  • cool...I'm also an airliner geek. XD

  • i see the funnel...and rotation...

  • I see a complex supercell thunderstom..no tornado or funnel cloud.
