No one's noticed that this is overdubbed one-woman duet. She's singing both parts. I don't know when this technology started, but this is an early, remarkable example.
Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Song of a century. How blessed am I to have the fortune to listen to Patti Page. Thank you very much oldiesplayer. Welcome to Taipei City. An early Christmas greetings to you and all at home.20111209@6.25am Friday.
This was my parents' theme song. My Dad and Mom met at a USO dance during the Korean War. My Dad wanted to impress my Mom. So, he asked the band to play a waltz in her honour. My Dad had Johann Strauss in mind. However, the band struck up "The Tennessee Waltz." My Mom's reaction was immediate as she asked my father, "Fred, how did you know that was my favourite song!?"
This song also brings back memories of my mother/aunts and grandmother. This song was learned on their laps... and my first waltz with my grandfather. I miss all of them... but some things are eternal... like this music.
Whenever I listening to this song it takes me back to my childhood time when I was 8 years old living in Mawchi in 1952. It also brings me the memories of the Karenni freedom fighters. Samuel Bani and Kwe Loo ( Nephew of Maj. Kha Poe ) ( Both signal radio operators ) Samuel Bani used to sing this song and Kwe Loo playing the guitar. But now they both have gone, gone forever.
What a beautiful song. Maybe it's just me, but people seemed more gentle when I was a kid in the 50's in Canada. And the music was sweeter, and more upbeat, even on songs like this one about 'cheatin' hearts'.
C&W held great sway over the "pop" idiom of the 50s. If you listen carefully, you can hear its influence on Teresa Brewer, Joan Weber, Jo Stafford, Connie Francis, Dean Martin, Beryl Davis, Connie Haines, and a host of others. For that reason, I suspect that most of the previously named artists charted both on pop and C&W. And a few black artists also were influenced. Brook Benton and Chuck Berry ("Maybelline," for example, is more C&W than R&B in its syncopation).
I remember dancing with my Dad, who didn't dance much due to an leg injury in WWII..that was in the mid to late 50's...Brings back such great memories of him ..he passed away when I was 16, I am now 64 years old.
I used to listen to this on the way home from my grandparents when they used to drop me off home. It was a 3 hour journey and they used to sing along together as this was 'their' song. Never forget this. Ever
Miss Patti Page, she's so adorable ! I don't think ?! Somebody could replace her as she sung this very romantic song ! I very much love this song ! Awsome !!! Thanks to you,Miss Patti Page . ''Nahinom-dom na hinoon ko sa amo sa Lapaz,Cortes, nga kanta-kantahon namo sa akong barkada nga si mario pondoc,si onir alluder ni,sa L..A.,CA.
To me Miss Patti Page owns this song. Not another singer can sing this like her. Others have sung this and it sounds pretty, but Its Miss Patti Page that owns this song.
This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.
This song brings back so many memories. This is my paternal Grandmother's favorite song, and I remember as a child, whenever we'd see her in the summer (whether she came down to Florida, or we went up to New York), she'd always have me dance to this with her.
This was the song that was playing on the night that we took my dad's girlfriend to the bus station in Galveston, Tx. back in the early 50's she was the ex-girlfriends of the Phenix City Ala. mofia. they found out that she was out here with my dad and they were going to come out here and kill him , if she didn't come back .so we put her on a bus back to Ala. my dad never saw her again...sure hope she didn't get hurt
Wow, This Reminds Me Of My Life... The Exact Situation, How Wierd. I Never Saw That "Friend" Again, Or That Boyfriend. But Now, I'm So Glad That Happened Because I Have The Best Boyfriend Any Girl Could Hope To Have, A Canadian Angel Who Sings To Many Screaming Fans But, Still Stays Faithful To Me, He Even Helped Me Thru My Anhorexia And I Love Him So Much For Supporting Me. Justin, If You're Seeing This Baby, I Love You!
My dad use to play this song all the time when I was little girl back in 1950...It is such a beautiful song...I still love to hear it...Thanks for posting it.
s the best version because it brings back sweet memories with my mom ... i grew up listening to this version while mom would sing along! can't keep the tears welling in my eyes ... i miss mom!!!

This is the song I learned to dance with my mother. I was ten yours old. It brings back such emotio0nal memories now that my mother is gone. Thank you for sharing.
I think this stereo version is good, but there was a certain magic that only the 45 single had that made it such a hit. The trumpet part at it's end grows and touches your heart, nothing could match what happened there. And from what I hear, she recorded it as a last minute flip-side! Her voice is timeless and endearing, no matter which version is played though.
@avecakataray Thank you you've spoken to my heart about my Mother also... and she died today 20 years ago... and by "chance?" I had a walk down memory lane... and then remembered this day!! I am sure my Mom reminded me............. <3
