Even given the circumstances, the Germans still held quite elaborate funeral ceremonies and kept neat cemeteries for their dead. The Russians on the other hand rarely even bothered to bury their dead. Once in a while they would dig a hole and stuff it full of Russian dead. You just don't see Soviet war cemeteries, or even individually marked headstones.... they just didn't exist.

But then he let control go to experience military men like Zhukov, Konev, etc. and the Soviet army started to perform better and better. In a way I see your point, on the other hand men are a product by necessity of their respective environments. The Soviet high command during WW2 rose to that status over time - pretty much all of the high command before them, like Tukhachevsky (who pioneered deep maneuver warfare of which blitzkrieg was a variety in the 20's and early 30's) were executed by Stalin out of his paranoid schizo ideas that everyone was against him...he may have been right of course. That's the catch.
I guess what I'm saying is that Hitler forged a better relationship with warriors of old (all his generals had years of experience) and integrated them into the whole 3rd Reich thing seamlessly. Therefore he had the early advantage over everyone else - especially the Soviets, where Stalin executed all of his high ranking generals, corporals, lieutenants etc. out of fear of overthrow. So the Soviet command had to restart from scratch, ground zero. The talented ones were shot.

i don't the think that any country in the world would have done anything otherwise then the german people did when they let the Nazi's take over, at the time germany hade a stock exchange crash and they lost the first world war that made the people almost desperate about finding a new good leader . and that time the speeches that hitler hade about world domination and one reich that would be gigantic was perfect. The other tings like the rasism was elvolved later and was quite unvolved then.

I find it scary when people hammer the EU and there is so much talk from all countries such as 'Get us out of Europe!' with propaganda from the rich minority/newspapers about how bad it is being in the EU. What worries me is how easily they forget that just 65 years ago, European countries were slaughtering each other and performing dispicable acts - some talk as if it could never ever happen again, which is very foolish. Isnt 65 years of peace and learning together, worth a few inconveniences>?

@Xiolablu3 65 years of peace is a nice thing, you are right, but first, we had nearly 50 years of cold war and dozens of wars in which the great powers supported one or another. The wars just did not harm the lands which mostly started them.
And second, look at all this another way, our generation is very used to peace, but to think that this peace will last is absurd. We humans kill each other since the dawn of our race - and these peacetime we have now is going to vanish as it has...

@genjuro88 come.We humans fight for many things and in my opinion war and all it brings with it is just in our blood. Maybe 50 years from today we will tell our grandchildren, how we grew up in peace and they will look at us astonished.
And as for the EU - there are reasons why we people in Europe have/had borders. I do not think that the whole system and idea will work out. Just look how peoples thoughts on the EU changed the last 5 or 10 years. And I´m sure it will take step to the worst.

Even given the circumstances, the Germans still held quite elaborate funeral ceremonies and kept neat cemeteries for their dead. The Russians on the other hand rarely even bothered to bury their dead. Once in a while they would dig a hole and stuff it full of Russian dead. You just don't see Soviet war cemeteries, or even individually marked headstones.... they just didn't exist.

every soldier who gave their lives for victory in this war hero, regardless of nationality. @ mnpd007 simply wrote that the Russian was bad because almost did not bury their soldiers. He was not thinking that the 27,000,000 Russian who died in the war it was impossible to bury.

Yes, but if you have lost would have died much more. Of the 27 million only 5-6 were military, the rest were women and children.Certainly a great price. Because we have to remember the feat of those who gave their lives for us always

Official Soviet military losses fall somewhere between 9 and 11 million, this not counting partisan deaths, which were considerable. You must also consider the millions who were killed by fellow Soviet military and political personnel...

You can't honestly justify the millions of Soviets who were killed by their own side both before, during, and after the war...

I do not condone anyone.You know nothing of what was then the Soviet Union actually...7 million Ukrainians is lies and by the way famine was in Russia too.Stalin was a cold-blooded man (a fact).He was still on people's lives when future victory is at stake.But just such a man could win the war(proven by history).By the way many people forget that Stalin was Georgian. Not Russian.

@DimaDima237 So now the Ukranian famine was a lie. Funny. I've heard the same said about the Holocaust. Stalin won nothing, numbers and the extreme bravery of Soviet military personell won that war. Uncle Joe did everything he could to hamper the war effort with his insane paranoia, costing the lives of millions who didn't have to die. A pencil sharpener would have done a better job at managing the conflict...

If you bothered to actually read my comment, I did not deny the fact that the USSR was mainly responsible for victory over the Axis powers. My point was that Stalin did nothing to aid the process, in fact, true to his nature, his ineptitude was responsible for millions of deaths...

@Mistermax30 Hitler and Stalin flip-flopped. At first Stalin tried to control everything the military did and this backfired badly...the Nazis nearly reached Moscow. But then he let control go to experience military men like Zhukov, Konev, etc. and the Soviet army started to perform better and better. Hitler was the opposite - at first his generals did it all and Hitler just did the speeches. When he started dabbling in military affairs, is when shit started getting worse and worse for Germans..

@drago884 True, although many of the early operations were encouraged by Hitler against his generals' advice and they ended with the conquest of Europe. I honestly have little sympathy for most of the Sovet high command, Zhukov included. They seemed to achieve their great successes simply by the virtue of having huge resources at their disposal. I'm not saying that they weren't talented, but if you were to give a man like Manstein half the troops that Zhukov had...

In a way I see your point, on the other hand men are a product by necessity of their respective environments. The Soviet high command during WW2 rose to that status over time - pretty much all of the high command before them, like Tukhachevsky (who pioneered deep maneuver warfare of which blitzkrieg was a variety in the 20's and early 30's) were executed by Stalin out of his paranoid schizo ideas that everyone was against him...he may have been right of course. That's the catch.

I guess what I'm saying is that Hitler forged a better relationship with warriors of old (all his generals had years of experience) and integrated them into the whole 3rd Reich thing seamlessly. Therefore he had the early advantage over everyone else - especially the Soviets, where Stalin executed all of his high ranking generals, corporals, lieutenants etc. out of fear of overthrow. So the Soviet command had to restart from scratch, ground zero. The talented ones were shot.

@mnpd007 are you kidding? on the eastern front thousands of german soldiers were just left where they fell, or just pushed into their foxhole and covered in dirt.... "elaborate funeral ceremonies" my ass.... read some first hand accounts of german soldiers fighting on the eastern front.
