It is wasted if they lose millions of dollars per year because of inefficiency. Private companies can't be inefficient or they go out of business. Govt has the unlimited checkbook and has little to no incentive to control costs. That's why Fed-Ex beats the crap out of USPS because they control costs and are very efficient. USPS loses $10M a day, but will not allow anyone else to deliver first class mail (it's illegal). If they are so great at it, then they have nothing to fear from a private co.

When the gold backed standard was removed, we removed the only thing that had control over the Fed.This essentially gave them the ability to create money out of thin air, which led to their "easy money" policies that began the real-estate bubble.

With the Fed. able to print unlimited money essentially and back creditors(such as bankers who gave out these faulty loans in the real-estate market) the bubble was allowed to inflate as much as t did, and now we're seeing he results.

Those big piles of REAL money (and REAL demand for recycling REAL, LOW-inflation US dollars) are what drove the housing bubble--not the Fed or lack of a gold standard.

No, unfortunately the US government does not exist to serve you, so you will pay for some things that you won't end up using. But at the same time, Amtrak does still benefit you- it cuts down on traffic congestion, it reduces pollution, it helps other people out (have you ever cared about someone besides yourself?).
If voting for Amtrak is getting politicians votes, then the public apparently wants Amtrak. So listening to what the public wants is corruption now?

It is wasted if they lose millions of dollars per year because of inefficiency. Private companies can't be inefficient or they go out of business. Govt has the unlimited checkbook and has little to no incentive to control costs. That's why Fed-Ex beats the crap out of USPS because they control costs and are very efficient. USPS loses $10M a day, but will not allow anyone else to deliver first class mail (it's illegal). If they are so great at it, then they have nothing to fear from a private co.

THEY are demagogues who profit and revel in the arousal of passions among the crowd, and if the Tea Parties highlight one important fact, it is the stranglehold these people have over the conservative public, which in turn colors the public discourse between the left and the right. They have a right to protest, but what they are protesting is not even clear outside of a general anti-tax stance.

When the gold backed standard was removed, we removed the only thing that had control over the Fed.This essentially gave them the ability to create money out of thin air, which led to their "easy money" policies that began the real-estate bubble.

I don't think inflation of the money supply caused the real estate bubble. Huge piles of money from China (via pegging its exchange rate to ours to vendor-finance full employment), Petro states (i.e. Saudi Arabia, Dubai, etc.), and pension funds (with all the boomers' contributions) were looking for a place to get a AAA return.
Those big piles of REAL money (and REAL demand for recycling REAL, LOW-inflation US dollars) are what drove the housing bubble--not the Fed or lack of a gold standard.

Thank you. I just happen to think you've got the whole thing turned around in your head. Pumping dollars INTO the system would have caused the dollar to fall. The Fed did NOT do this in our recent past.
Rather, China, etc. took dollars OUT of the system--for the reason (I agree) that you stated--to artificially extend US consumer demand. The result was to artificially INFLATE the value of the dollar (and make it less competitive for the US to produce goods and services to the world).

That woman is being very honest with how the news is reported. If it bleeds, it leads is the sad but true tagline of journalism. Economic news is not easy to present, because there is not much video and there is not much interest. Economy news is boring, and the news channels are a BUSINESS so they have to report what people will watch.
I'd like to point out that the main stream media also never had much anti-Iraq war protests coverage.
