It's not about competing with the original. Glee exposes a lot of different styles of music to a lot of people who have typically not had a particularly varied musical palette. This is a good thing. And it's a decent show, kind of reminds me of Scrubs... sometimes witty, sometimes deeply touching, sometimes quite dark, and sometimes just silly.
