That laptop was made in 1995 and didn't even have a cdrom drive. Do you know someone who wants 12 year old laptop that can't even run windows?

After it sat in a closet for 4 years, I decided to dispose of it. Why not see what happens to the LCD when you cut it first?

No. That is the LCD's crystals being crushed and blocking the light. I've done this to an old LCD and I can assure you that it is NOT bleeding.

The mercury is in the CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) which is the back-light tube for the LCD it is NOT in the LCD itself. The screen still was lit up so the CCFL tube was still intact. BTW all fluorescent tubes contain mercury vapor as it is what puts off the ultraviolet light which gets converted to visible light by the white phosphor coating.
