  • hi, I have just listed an EL 3583 / 15 on ebay on 25th may 2011 for ten days if it's of interest to any of you.

I have also recommended your video on my ad -keep up the good work !

    monkeyish1000

  • here i am

  • Wow never seen this before! It might sound louder if it had a larger speaker to play back. Does it have a standard output jack?

  • i think that you can use modified 3" reels with it to.

or mabee 3" film reels with tape on them?

  • @thereelmaster If I could, I would have to use 1/8" tape like in a cassette.

  • Wow, I have never even heard of this format. What is it even called?

  • @TapGage I don't know of any official name.

  • Hi Ricky - Good to see that you got it fixed up and running. Always good to know these machines are appreciated. Keep in touch if you want more, or any service information. BTW - the red light is the "battery low" indicator. It flashes sometimes on loud peaks or recording loud passages because then it draws a lot of current.

What you need now is the EL3582, to complete the series.

All the best from Germany, thanks for the mention.

  • What a rare machines you have!.

  • Nice machine

  • hey awesome great channel great idea, thanks so much! only saw one video so far looks awesome!

  • Wow, I haven't even heard of this kind of machine. You got lucky to own that one and some cartridges for it too.

  • Wow!!!!!

  • I forgot what the fuck was happening because I was sucking on the largest poop like a black man's penis when I clicked the link to this video!

  • "because I was sucking on the largest poop like a black man's penis"

....dude seriously wtf is that supposed to mean?!!!!!!

  • (Replying to Kittyslasher69's comment)

  • You would, SAMURAICLINTON!

I'd tell you to go fuck yourself, but you're probabally doing that right now, with an iPod.

  • Dude WTF?@k?!

  • sicko

  • Uau! I have one of these machines, but is an AC/table model, also from Philips.Since I d'ont have any tapes (I see one for first time here in your video) the machine remains unusefull. But the mechanics works well. Thanks for sharing

  • Fascinating mechanisms on this machine, and I didn't see even a scratch on the bottom, it's in very good shape. Please mention me in a future shoutout, thanks...

  • WOW NICE MACHINE!

  • Nice machine. It's a must see video. Keep on with the good work!

  • Wow, what an amazing machine, what size batteries does it use? Is there a connection for a foot pedal for those who do audio typing/transcription such as myself? We have Lanier cassette transcription machines where I work, I used one for the first time the other day, most of the work we do is stored digitally.

  • 6 C-batteries. This one has no foot pedal, but I have a transcription version that does.

  • I think you have now reviewed every tape format except Pocket Rockers made in the 80s. Cool machine.

  • Very interesting machine!

  • Oh and exodia333 lol

That machince sounds kinda like a cops CV radio

  • Thanx 4 da shout, eh! I wonder if Philips made a stereophonic hifi machine of this format?

  • Never saw this mschine before and thanks for mentioning me as a shoutout.

  • That is a very cool machine! Do you know what the years that it was made from? The cartridges are very cool! Amazing that they still record and play back so well!

    Great Video!

    Brent

  • ...Somebody called?

  • I wonder if you can rig up one of those headphones-mics to it so it would sound better than that little speaker. They use those 3-pin and 5- pin din plugs, so it shouod be easy enough to make one. I had an old Telex boom mic headphones, if I could only remember where I put it.

  • I've sen RCA cartridge recorders from the 60's, looked like giant cassettes. But I never saw this type of cartridge. Norelco also had mini cassettes, not micro or standard, but in between sized "mini" cassettes (non capston drive).

  • I've got some mini-cassette machines. Some by Norelco and others by other companies.

  • very odd format.

    Is this a full-track mono configuration, or half-track (I assume it's mono)

  • nice:D that a lazy version of a reel-to-reel lol

  • Oooh, you have a diction machine!

Nice machine, very interesting. I love seeing these crazy machines! I assume it is rim drive? Philips was (is) an amazing manufacturer!

Thanks for the video on this very unique machine!

  • It's capstan drive.

  • Oooh! Capstan Drive!!!

Can you do a video showing how the mechanism works?

I would love to see that loading mechanism design!

  • I'll probably do that sometime.

  • That's a really interesting machine and format! I am from Germay and I have NEVER heard anything about it!

That mechanism to get the tape threaded is a really good construction!

Deterioated belts are a usual Philips problem, only sometimes you're lucky and the belt is still intact.

BTW have you ever heard of Grundig's DC-INTERNATIONAL cassette system?

  • I haven't heard of that, but I have heard (maybe it is the DC-International) of a Grundig tape format that went on a machine and formed part of the body of the machine. It was some kind of cartridge and I think the mike doubled as a speaker. I've seen them on eBay before and would like to get one sometime.

  • This is a very interesting format. I wonder if it's possible to hook up a speaker and use that instead of using the microphone as one.

  • Awesome mashine !

    My congratulations !!!

  • Hi Ricky,

    That is very interesting. !

  • WOW very nice to see a machine made in my home country

  • is the machine DC bias?

  • AC bias.

  • Very cool and interesting.

  • So if the tape has the same specs as the tape in a normal cassette you could probably just put it in a normal cassette case and play and record it in a normal tape recoder, right?

  • As long as the tracks are right. The head looked like the track was in the opposite place though. But then maybe an auto-reverse machine would play it?

  • wow i want one!!!

  • can you tell me the name of the german youtuber please??

  • His name is ZL4MI.

  • very neat

  • omg what is this , i've never seen this machine... cool retro
