I love that SPD's range!! Its just unfair, but its good to see he does not spam it to much. I'm glad they did not gave him this same reach for SPD in SF4, or else I would own big time :P

I believe winning with Zangief in ST is a good accomplishment because Zangief is very hard to use and near the bottom of the tier-list. If winning with Zangief (against a top Ryu player such as Inoki) isnt much of an accomplishment, then what is?
I completely agree 100%. There is a clear definition is tiers. The stuff Pony does is not only excellent executions but that of judgment as well. Zangief never has an advantage against any shotos. Pony is a master of spacing and baits, no one should belittle the genius of his game by merely saying he's just "good".
It's debatable. Daigo also said he thinks 'Gief has an advantage against shotos. They can't safely fireball zone him the way they can other characters. He forces them to play footsies with him.
being top tier means you have many good match-ups. being low tier means you have very few, but it doesnt mean you have none. ryu is middle tier because he has a few good matchups a few bad and a few even. zangief is low tier, but ryu is pretty well the only match where he has the advantage.

@r1c1976 Winning in Japan PERIOD is an accomplishment. Gief beats Ryu at this level, so to say that's an accomplishment is pretty far off. Now, if he were doing this to, say, a Guile or a Honda, then we're talking wtfGDLK.

I'm a big Gief fan and in most games he's low tier apart from SF Alpha 2&3. But I have to say in SF4, Gief is a F**king MONSTER. He's rated 3rd.
Jab/LP SPD has good range.
Lariat hits opponents if they execute ANY punch in crouch position.
lariat also hits opponents who are crouching (if they are large/Medium sized).
EX green hand is like a moving Dragon punch with reach.
EX command grabs have invincibility.
Some of his weaknesses are Sagat, Akuma and Blanka, which are REALLY bad
