The DDT thing is strange. My understanding is DDT kills insects that spread malaria. It was made illegal to use for spraying crops so as not to be ingested, but never outlawed for the purposes of killing those insects. Conservatives tend to omit that little fact as it's inconvenient towards railing on environmentalism.
Well both C0c and Coulter are wrong about DDT. Many scientist want to bring DDT to Africa to spray around the doorways to their houses. DDT is not as harmful as we make it out to be except in the amounts that were used in America in the 1950's. Back then there was a DDT truck that came by almost every day and sprayed down neighborhoods, with little kids running through the DDT cloud. That is when it caused problems but the way it will be used in Africa will not harm the people or other animals.
Nobody says we will run out of oil as more is made all the time naturally.
The issue is peak oil. We have reached it in many places, and we have to keep finding new deeper reservoirs that are more expensive to drill to keep pumping equal amounts of oil right now.
Peak simply means its easy to pump out. After peak is hit, the amount of oil you can pump from an area is far less then normal.
But the need for oil wont diminish, and the shortage causes world issues

Martin Amis said his father Kingsley would occasionally go through a book responding to every statemet with "Oh no it's not" or "Oh no it isn't."

The DDT thing is strange. My understanding is DDT kills insects that spread malaria. It was made illegal to use for spraying crops so as not to be ingested, but never outlawed for the purposes of killing those insects. Conservatives tend to omit that little fact as it's inconvenient towards railing on environmentalism.

Well both C0c and Coulter are wrong about DDT. Many scientist want to bring DDT to Africa to spray around the doorways to their houses. DDT is not as harmful as we make it out to be except in the amounts that were used in America in the 1950's. Back then there was a DDT truck that came by almost every day and sprayed down neighborhoods, with little kids running through the DDT cloud. That is when it caused problems but the way it will be used in Africa will not harm the people or other animals.

Great read, but small correction.
Nobody says we will run out of oil as more is made all the time naturally.
The issue is peak oil. We have reached it in many places, and we have to keep finding new deeper reservoirs that are more expensive to drill to keep pumping equal amounts of oil right now.
Peak simply means its easy to pump out. After peak is hit, the amount of oil you can pump from an area is far less then normal.
But the need for oil wont diminish, and the shortage causes world issues
