The song is about being an abusive relationship. "To others the case is obvious"... "...a bruise unjust..." "...life seemed a fair sacrifice for peace"
how could i have forgotten how much i love this song?! i haven't heard it in years, but woke up this morning thinking of it. dragged out my CD and checked to see if anyone had it uploaded here already.
Lest we forget, the album titled "Karma", which itself is most integrated with ancient Buddhism begs us to think less of the soul. Any attempts to ascertain it's existence on this plane is beyond any human beings ability to do so. Only upon death will it be revealed if you indeed possess a soul. Morality dictates that you spend your time in the quest of bringing peace and love to others....pure altruism. If you achieve this goal your "soul" will forever fly in the hearts of those you touched.
It's difficult to put in to words the emotions this song and many others by Delerium can bring to the surface of a trouble heart and soul. One thing is certain, it surpasses the realm of spirituality and brings about a sense of calm in even the most dire of circumstances.
To others the pain was obvious The colours of shame a bruise - unjust Abuse of trust can't be wiped I can't remember why I chose to say goodbye I'm terrified of what I might have severed I tried to forget the drowning truth Lashing inside my sea of youth Life seemed a fair sacrifice for peace I can't remember why I chose to say goodbye I'm terrified of what I might have severed I ended up too high But never learned to fly So coming down I'm very thankful [You were there]
I never understood how this song never caught on as much as deleriums other works such as silence (which is not the greatest in my opinion). I can listen to this literally 1000 times and still love it. My favorite from delerium. :D
@melpaquette I agree...it is a song that makes me think about that special someone that got away from me..I always think back about that girl when I hear this song...
@stile1973 by the very nature and fact that each and every one of us here listening to this song is proof that your question to melpaquette is moot. It's kinda like asking an Orange - "why are you orange?" We are attracted to this master piece because we, have to some greater or lesser extent, an inner sanctum of melancholy, beauty, sadness, happiness, hurt, passion, lust, and even Wisdom in us. We are here because of that law of attraction - that "like attracts like". So our souls can fly
@guyralstin - What the hell are you talking about? I was asking about proof of the soul - of course I love this song! That is why I posted the lyrics below. Listen, brother [or sister], for your sake, and for the sake of humanity, get off the acid, or the THC, or whatever is keeping you locked up in a prison of irrational delusions, and start rebuilding your mind. You are going to need it one day.
@stile1973@stile1973 whoa - who's acting irrational here? I think your immaturity speaks for itself. I was simply stating a self evident fact that the folks on here have souls - and that (in a nutshell) it is silly to ask for proof of it. You asked a question - I simply responded in a civil but open minded way. I"m sorry you couldn't put your judgments aside and really try to understand what I said previously without any preconceived notions. I too enjoy this song: at least we can agree there.
@guyralstin - Alright brother [or sister] here is my academic and totally non-insulting answer...the idea that the soul exists de facto, a priori, without any kind of proof is not a valid philosophical assumption or argument or anything else to do with rational thought. It just isn't true. A cat could be thinking the same thing, "of course I, the Cheshire Cat, have a soul - it's self-evident!" Ask Richard Dawkins or other atheists how they feel about this self-evident assertion...
@guyralstin - The quote is just fine...I have no problem with it. But in order to make such a quote, Pat Morley must know something rather detailed about God. And if God is infinite, and we humans are 'finite' entities in time and space....then it is absurd to think we can know anything about God at all. It is in fact, the highest form of arrogance to pretend we humans can understand the Creator of all that is...and it still doesn't imply that the existence of the soul is self-evident.
lol Kristy Thirsk is so awesome. She is such an uber diva. I never could understand why i don't hear her name much. She's like the alternative Madonna, but with better pipes..
This is my fave Kristy Thirsk track off of "Karma". Her singing in the beginning with no words is amazing & angelic/ethereal to say the least. Kristy is my all-time fave vocalist. She creates such a warm & peaceful feeling in me when I hear her. She's amazing!
one of the best album,,,!!

What makes you think you have a soul? Or do you think you could say what it is exactly? Hard questions...perhaps, but necessary ones.

@stile1973
The Christian God is too great to be described by science,
too multifaceted to be understood by logic,
too unpredictable to be captured in statistics,
too loving to be compressed into poetry
& too merciful to be constrained by law.
The more we know of Him, the more we realize how little we know.
But he has left the door open: to come as a little child filled with awe wonder & faith.
He gives grace to the humble. - Pat Morley
Your thoughts on this brother (or sister)?
