As silly as it sounds, hearing this song radically changed my life. Prior to it my musical tastes almost exclusively revolved around heavy metal. Within a couple years I was hunting down techo releases, hitting NYC techno/dance clubs (Limelight, The Shelter, Webster Hall, etc.), and had cut my hair (which had grown to waist length) short. It also made a huge change in the kinds of people I met. It's crazy thinking about how quickly that all happened.
I'm merely agreeing with Paul, Jim and Kurt on the song's subject matter- that we are looked upon by corporations as a "PRODUCT" or a "MARKET" and NOT INDIVIDUALS. This is true moreso today than when this song came out. A society can be split into "markets" or "segments" just by observing the products that we "consume". Or what "Mindset" can be sold to the masses. ie: Political Correctness for example.
I would love to know more about how these guys are doing, my wife and I went to school with them many years ago, they were frustrated free thinkers in the relm of mindless drones.
Another title for this song could have been "Divide And Conquer". (From a corporate stand point). Hey, let's all express our "individuality" and buy Scion vehicles!
I <3 <3 <3 this video and this song!!! Thank you so much for posting! I think I was in 8th grade when this came out. My friends in Catholic school all thought I was NUTS bc I was playing stuff like this and Suede and Sheep on Drugs... Lovely memories, thanks!
Add info Intercept===="1990's. Very prophetic. Information Society equals Internet which you are seeing now 2008 just like the vids of Modern Talking(Cp, computer chat, voip, networking sites)....you tube...."====To be continued====....
My friends used to measure driving distances with this song. We'd all pile into my roomie's little Honda Civic hatchback, crank up the volume, and do nerdy dances to the song on the way to the movie theatre every friday. It took exactly 1 "Peace and Love, Inc." to get to the movie theatre from our apartment.
One of the best songs EVER. And a great message too.
The subject matter in this video has unfortunately- thanks to global marketing- reached world wide "epidemic" levels, just look at which countries have allowed "Corporate America" to infect them.
Several years ago, the PBS program "Frontline" ran an episode entitled "The Merchants of Cool", about the entertainment industry, and there was some mention of Insane Clown Posse, and how the record company went to exploit their anti-establishment image, using it as just another marketing tool...
...I heard this song back in high school, and liked it, but thank God I never saw this horrible video, because the video itself is in the same vein, it just plays into the hands of the very social controllers that want people mesmerized by insipid techno music, and high on ecstasy...
We NEED Peace and Love in this "New World Order" we are living in now. Great tune!(except for miss thang working my last nerve with her 'dancing' lol)
ummm ciflyer where have you been? InSoc released a cd in 98 but it was just Kurt they have a new album out sans Kurt. I miss chatting with Kurt on IRC.
now that i see this video, i think GM might have borrowed some of the concepts for his Killer clip. although IS bothered to write a new song to accompany the imagery!
Wow! I remember seeing Information Society like 4 days after this CD was released in 1992. At that time, Top 40 stations in weak markets, like Memphis, were catering their playlists to the non-rap, non-dance crowd. I'm glad I finally get to see this video.
ahhh, more high school memories! i love this song still. it's a good blend of new-wave/almost ravey. reminds me of countless nights of playing Nintendo when I should've been doing homework ;-)
I don't care howlong it takes!! But Ci-Flyer.Inc will share & bring this IMF back 1 more time! I gotta find james paul & kurt They must perform & I'll make it happen like climbing everest! These guys must be heard live! They deserve it! & they've never gotten credit for a great scene in dance/pop/industrial true techno the props they're way past due! I find these guys & I gotta make it happen in fl. Miami of course! Ci-Flyer out!
