  • That body filler he applied was brilliant hahah what a shit job

  • what might look ok on the outside is really a rusted out peice of junk someone tried to make a dollar on. if your going to teach rust repair then do it the correct way. so i dont have to fix it for them later because the bondo fell out. on that car it would have been just as easy to cut out and patch with a new peice, NEW SHEET METAL ISNT THAT HIGH.

  • Fiberglass does not "dry", it cures hard via a chemical process. This example is why fillers and bondo has been given a bad name. For the money you spend on the products, especially for an old car as that, you can buy another fender and replace. A good example of what NOT to do!

  • in the end it would be cheaper to replace the wing ha ha.

  • JUST SLOP IT ON THERE LOL

  • what about primer?

  • wow lol i wouldve cut out that rust spot and just butt weld a whole new piece there...

  • who sands with an electric drill?......angle grinders work better and faster.,maybe in the 60`s we did this.......he sounds like a Bondo salesman....not a Body Man.

  • After watching this video, I restored a 1973 Chevy Truck with the same type rust outs as was in the video. No doubt this video was for customer's like me who doesn't have access to welders, and all the fancy tools you weekend warrior's have. I completely restore the truck and it's now been over 10 years ago and all the repair areas are still perfect with no rust or cracking! Now I use the same products on rotted window sills and concrete! May not be a perfect video, but the guy knows his stuff!

  • @iiwtheword The rust is still there its just covered up.

  • BODGED!!!!! THIS REPAIR FELL OUT 6 MONTHS LATER.

  • Let's put some fiberglass on rust... Lousy job.

  • ill agree, fix metal with metal and fiberglass with fiberglass. and those of you with plastic. buy a new whatever is cracked.

  • Fiberglass works well. I'm doing my rear quarter on my 88 Ranger. Not everyone has a welder.

  • dont let it drip everywhere like this fool

  • A fender on a car as common as the 70-81 camaro/Firebird is NOT worth fixing. I just bought a new fender for my 83 firebird for $130.00. If you consider your materials, then your time, you have as much money into a fillered up fender as you would a new piece. even welding steel into a fender is rarely worth the time unless it isn't available new anymore. If you are repairing a quarter or something though, weld in steel...that car wont make 1 winter before that repair rusts through

  • DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS DUMBASS. Replace or cut and weld in new patches. -Certified Automotive Technician

  • why spray with one step only to sand it off?....

  • WHAT THE HELL? If your going to teach people how to do a job ,teach them right.WHAT A HACK.

  • the rust under my ride is as big as a football, do you guys think fiber glass would fix my problem? im afraid that fiber glass might give way if pressure is applied since the rust on my car is under the passenger seat.

  • @dopetrip420 get some sheet metal and have it welded in then do a undercoat or truck bed coating over it would be cheap way out...

  • @dopetrip420 Use a piece of aluminum sheet metal from Home Depot.

  • :45 see the metal falling off when he taps in the edges, he should take out more metal then he did, its obvious that its rusted further around the spot then that hole. dont be lazy take the rest of the rust off or just go buy a new fender.

  • I like how he was worried about getting primer on the tire and taped it off but you can watch gobs of that fiberglass resin drop right on the tire and rim

  • @kazanyemmi I dont beleive this guy is a repair man...more like a sales person doing a demo

  • THIS IS A JOKE!!!!!!!DO NOT DO THIS......The WRONG WAY TO FIX YOUR CAR!!!

  • WTF? Is it easier, cleaner and quicker to replace the wing? :)

  • @Funkliner and more expensive

  • What a great restoration...

  • resin ALL OVER the wheel. awesome.

  • this guy is 1980's

  • That guy has all the hand skills of my dog ;-)

Look how skillfully he runs that spraybomb ...omg

  • That guy has all the hand skills of my dog ;-)

  • Ppl forgot how to repair a car the normal way :))

  • i have a really important question...i just bought a 2002 gtx seadoo and the bottom needs abit of work. theres a lot of deep scratches, some soft spots and a hole.

i know that you cant use bondo so what i really need to know is what kind off kit(products) or what steps do take to fix this problem ??? please hit reply

    thanks

  • @robertdeuce

Buy some fibreglass matting and resin and do just like this guy did - Dont need any specific product, just your old fibreglass matting and polyester resin, just like they use for making surfboards or any darn thing made of fibreglass.

If you want pro job then you dont use fibreglass - you cut and weld in sheet metal, either from a piece of another panel from a wreckers or whatever suits.

  • very sloppy work. I can't believe the Bondo company is allowing this guy to represent their product. Look at the final repair, it's all uneven.

  • This is a great repair for people who don't keep the car for very long, or for those who don't have much money. For a proper repair, the rust has to be cut out totally, and a repair panel of materials similar to original should be welded in place. After that, the body work, glazing putty, primer and finish paint coating.

  • What I love was that he decided to put paper on the tire after he had dripped resin alll over it. Apparently resin is ok, but paint isn't..

  • Leave him alone..bondos heavy...drives up price at the scale

  • You should never apply Bondo that thick, unless you want to see it crack later. Nothing wrong with repairing that fender, but doing it this way is a hack job. The proper way would have been to remove the fender, kill all the rust on the inside and out, and replace the section of sheet metal. Almost as easy as Bondo-ing it, and will last much longer.

  • Yeah, it would be better to get a new fender then just use filler for any small imperfections... But this was very informative.

  • butcher

  • His watch. MY EYES! AHHH, I'M BLIND!!

  • the really sad thing is that i resorted to these "methods" to "repair" a fender on my chevy luv truck

  • now he covers the tire after the resin and bondo globs fall off the fender great job rebuilding the bodyline on the fender

  • Admittedly a short term fix. But this video did an excellent job of explaining the process. For some people this technique would suffice and certainly fit their budget.

  • well theres : the right way, the wrong way, and the BONDO WAY. wich is the wrong way but faster :0

  • too bad thats just a tempo fix, he may have sanded the outside but the real way would be to remove the fender and go at it from the inside too. What he did in this video will last a year maybe a little longer then comes the rust again

  • Comment removed

  • this is a good example of some aweful aweful hack work. im a student at wyotech and i know better than this. you CANNOT patch or fill a HOLE in steel or any kind of metal with ANYTHING but that metal. the entire car flexes a little bit going down the road everyday. that fiberglass patch is not going to last long on that panel. on top of that body filler should be no more than 1/8 in thick. if you have to use more than that then you are a hack and suck at metal working. it WILL fall off.

  • @nickthetech21 so what would you do if the panel has to be cut away and you could only repair it with sheet metal?the bottom of most vans rust away...how would you do the repair with out using some form of bondo?

  • @nocknights well in a shop wouldnt do it for anything less than a fortune because so much has to be removed when sectioning or replacing a floor pan. now if were mine i would probably just cut the damage out and weld the new sheet metal in. bondo is only a cosmetic material and has no structural integrity. it should only be used to give something a smooth appearance once strutural integrity has been restored. using a MIG welder would get the best results

  • @nickthetech21 Sounds pro....thank!

  • @nickthetech21 we all cant shell out money for expensive fabs let alone for the tools that require "perfection"! we have to work with what we got! and if you knew anything about metal fabrication youd know that it to can fail. some of the best kustomizers use FIBERGLASS and WOOD along with other shit in their rides! then again i learned this in life not a fucking book or teacher! only hack here is you seeing that youre a fucking STUDENT and not a PROFESSIONAL! read up on diy student!

  • @Eyedea818 no legitimate shop uses filler, fiberglass, or glazing putty for patching holes in metal. nobody would use wood for replacing steel either. thats retarded. i know that you probably think you know a whole lot about cars because you were born in 1960 but times have changed. just fyi wyotech is big shit. we're on the speed channel. not only do i learn what do to and not to do, but i've done it all. from welding, to filling, to glass, to replacing quarter panels. i could go on. idiot.

  • @nickthetech21 legitimate shops aint the point at hand! the point is your knocking a quick fix. and look into kustom kulture. those builders use all kinds of shit! and alot of schools are on tv but that dont mean shit! life is completely different from what they teach you in school. and what does age have to do with this? old young it doesnt matter. you can do alot of cool shit with any material! that ase cert wont fool anybody STUDENT. you just took a course and passed thats it!

  • Bondodo!

  • That"s just rough.......

Shame on you for encouraging bodgy repairs to novices.....

  • 02:29 all over the tires and rims lmao

  • This is so 80's! LOL.

Fiberglass is awesome and if you prepare the surfaces CORRECTLY, it is fine. The attention to only one side of the metal is of course negligent, but for a banger, its a fine 6 month fix. The best way is to cut an inch outside the rusted area and put a strong wire gauze in, then fibreglass. I have an old VW camper, and the FG does bond to metal, but is best if you use a 3m red putty medium as well. All good fun. If i had a crappy car, this would be my short term fix!

  • Thnx for da video..

  • i loved it very educational thank you

  • what a waste of time and money, HACK

  • trabajo de negro

  • With the time and effort fixing all the rot spots and supplies you could have gotten a new fender or get a decent one from a junk yard. Anyone notice the bald spots on the front tire?

  • What a stupid way for fixing rust spots! .. you have to weld patch, idiot!

  • @GroupWar

as u can c u dont have to .... its even better than metal...because it dont bend... its like carbon very resistant on imapact + hard =)

  • good video

  • On an average car you can use this stuff with success, but only if you cut out all the bad metal and not cover it up like in this video. I use garden fabric (wire mesh) as a backing material and at least four layers of fabric. Use only enough resin to soak the mat, it should not be dripping and lightly brush some on to coat & cover the fabric. I use fiberglass filler on top of the resin and then use light filler to get the final surface as it is easier to finish... Looks like a car dealer

  • Thanks for posting this vid.

  • thanks, very helpful

  • I bought a shit car for a 150 dollars, full of rust, spent 300 dollars in fiberglass and stuff like that to take the rust "away",,, and sold the car for 2000 dollars. xD

now i can do the same shit all over again =D and get rich =D

  • Thank you! Soooo helpful :)

  • ..... then for about 6 months the repair will look great! After that the rust that you did not remove from behind the fender with your fancy drill sander will appear all around the new fiberglass. At this point you will want to avoid rain, or bumps in the road because this will dislodge the fiberglass and send it falling to the road. But fear not, you have just created a free fender vent!

  • @DukeNukem65 true that dude. most of these people have no idea how to fix a car lol. they dont know crap about proper materials and corrosion protection

  • first you shouldnt repair metal with fiberglass, and second, you used way too much resin

  • yes very good video. thanks for posting!

  • drip drip drip all over the tires lol

  • skim coat??!! holy cow thats a pretty big skim!!

  • When a baby shits his diapers you do not put new ones on over the dirty ones, we take off the old ones and put the clean ones on.

mhanimemastr2 you are corect in that I have never used fiberglass, thats because I work on cars and trucks...not boats, you poor thing, at least you are trying.

  • @PlusOrMinusOne Well if it wasnt for disposable diapers we would do it the oldschool way and clean the old diapers patch them up if it has holes in it and put it back onto the baby!! :D

  • @PlusOrMinusOne don't they use fiberglass on cars?

  • Bet that resin soaked right through them gloves

  • this is why if you dont know how to do body work dont do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spot putty i thought they stopped selling that in the 80s

    This made my night!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why is he fiberglassing that spot? lol. That is NOT the correct way to fix that. It needs it cut out and another piece welded in. And that is about the MESSIEST ive ever seen anyone wipe bondo. He needs to put that shit down. He puts his bono and fiberglass over the paint. lol. Poor guy and i feel bad for the people that follow this guys instructions.

  • @BakerFX4 Apply a think coat LOL.

  • @BakerFX4 ,, people repair rust like that all the time, its a matter of prefrance, if you own a beater and you want to sell it, give it a low cost repair, but if its a classic or show car or somthing you want to keep forever, you can repair with a patch panel. patch panals are more labor intensive and expensive, but i guess you get what you pay for and if done correctly it will last forever..

  • wow helped me so much thank you!

  • do your self a favor... don't listen to this guy.... he took every shortcut possible and done very poor quality work...

and for the love of god... dont put bondo or fiberglass over painted metal like this guy did... BARE METAL ONLY...

you get a "E" for effort.... but "FAIL" for not knowing what you are doing and then trying to tell others how to do it....

  • Thank you! This was VERY helpful!!

  • Excellent video. I went through a few videos here before I found exactly what I was looking for. I have the same kit ready to go on my car. Great instructions.

  • I normally dont do it this way. But this works.

  • Yeah, I don't really approve of this sort of repair either but it has its place. You can hardly get any body parts for my car because barely any of them made it to Australia so I'm generally left with getting patches welded in or repairing like this. I'm going to have all my rust cut out and properly welded in a few weeks time but if I pick up any non-structural rust in the years to come I may cut a corner or two.

  • you people don't understand this is just showing how the average person can use bondo products to fix their car. There's a reason why he's using a simple drill to patch the repair up.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this guy is a doofus...

  • OH.................MY......................GOD !

  • wow this is a real bad video, hope no one does this to their own car.

  • mdr

  • Good video for a quick fix. It will last as long as that car. Paint it..........

  • Great video! I have a 1968 mustang coupe that had some rotted spots by the wheel well and on the back pillars. Small spots that can probably be done this way. I will give it a shot and let you know how it goes!

  • Your body work sucks, you didnt remove enough paint from the area and just put bondo on top of some of the paint. I am sure that wont be a problem later on.

  • good vid

  • Hi expert,

    Great video.

    I have 2 question,

    1. what is the ratio of pigment to mix with resin? Do we have max spec or ratio for it?

    2. Will the pigment added affect the total strength of the Fiberglass?

    Thanks

  • Simple and usefull. Thank you.

  • all yall dumb ass white boys need to shut up. if yall som much of experts bitch y you watchin this how to clip. and how yall gone call him a redneck cuz all yall muthafuckas white too. and i can tell yall young and immature. go jack off at porno or sumthing

  • Hey Southerplaya87.....what does that say about YOU watching this video too??? And I take it "you is a negro"? Dude, seriously....he may be a redneck....but at least he's not a dumbass like you! ROFL!!!!

  • @southernplaya87 Are you retarded? First off, "white" doesn't equal "redneck" anymore than "black" equals "gangsta." And "all yall" is a retarded way to refer to people. "Yall" isn't a word, and since it means "You all" (which itself is grammatically incorrect and a lazy, redneck way of saying "all of you"), there is no need to begin with "all." Wouldn't it make more sense to just say "Yall" or "All of you"? Stupid darky. Go pimp a ho or something.

  • im only 17 and id whip your ass at body work, old man

  • YOU SUCK

  • suck my left one redneck, go eat some fried chicken its probally the only thing you know how to do correctly

  • This is nano-technology. Don't try this at home! :)

  • mommy

  • This guy is a "rick bag"! He must work for Maaco. Actually no he probably doesn't because he didn't paint the wheel too. lol

  • I;m sorry, but this dude is retarded. aside from not being able to truly stop rust with rust converter, he made a huge mess with the resin, didn't cut the patches large enough (they should be at least a TINY BIT larger than the hole) I don't think he put enough layers of mat on, the paintjob is terrible... I just have to say that I've seen better repairs on garden tractors.

  • You forgot to add a gallon of salt in your resin. :/

  • Wait i think im dumb is it called a fiberglass mat at 1:47

  • Hi i have like a 2 by 3 inch hole in my bumper and i need something to fill it in. i bought bondo fiberglass resin but i dont know what hes using at 1:47 in the video. If anyone know please let me know like exactly what its called. And also at 3:45 i dont know what that white stuff is if you know what it is please help thank you! Oh yea and theres no rust......just a hole because of a accident

  • @pootem1 Its fiberglass cloth or mat, the resin comes in liquid and gel, check with the discount auto stores for a kit. I use 1/4 inch wire screen behind the hole and several layers of fabric, just enough resin to get it wet and not dripping. The bumper cover is not all that expensive to buy a new one, I paid $100 for mine on eBay. I hope this helps.

  • This is rough as. I wouldnt listen to this guy at all.. The rust will comeback before you know it.. The ONLY way to get out all of the rust is to cut it ALL out and replace the patch you took out with metal...

  • o and wen spry painting you dont always have to get so close to the surface wen too close it will run, i have experience on fences and walls ahhahahahahahha

  • befor you primer should you try to match the fender "lines" better, it looks like shit you can tell that it is different from teh other.

  • you cant stop rust.

Cut out all of the rust, and replace with new metal.

If you do this you'll be in a bigger pickle in a couple months.

  • It doesn't really matter how sloppy it is. The hole is out, smooth , and it looks perfect. It's obviously going to be restored anyways.. It's not like they're gonna keep that paint on it so why does it matter?

  • I wouldnt be so quick to call this dodgie arse repair a restoration.....

  • Well I'm sure they at least planned on painting it either way..

  • paint or not mate. This is still an Earl Shybes repair.... DODGIE AS..

  • that guy is so slopy bondo is all over. get some experince befor u make a video and post it

  • thats been put on with a catapult lol. i wouldhave cut the rust off with snips then mig welded a plate in there then a grind then filler thats ok for temp repair i reckon i.e mot

  • after we apply the first coat of resin...... all over the left front tire and wheel.... lol...

  • yeah note people (try not to get the Resin all over the car you only need it where the hole is lol)

  • wow, tht watch hes wearing gots lotsa diamonds tht sparkle, i wonder where he stays....?

  • heard about welding?

  • Buy a new fender and fix it correctly.

  • yeah but sometimes the hole is not on the fender.but in the 1/4 panels this is a cheap easy fix and the only one that knows would be yourself.sometimes body work can get into the thousands .

  • what car is that?

  • camaro

  • he makes this look so easyyy

however, i assure you this is a very tedious thing to do. If you are considering doing this bring the most impoartant tool!..... your patience!

  • this is amazing advice,*

  • That is a lot of filler....

  • Fiberglass on metal? hmmm, doesnt sound like a good idea.

  • Why?

  • doenst stick well. yes that is a lot of filler lol. if you put that much he should at least use re-enforced filler

  • yea i was thinking the same thing

  • LMAO! Rednecks do it best

  • wow, all of you lazy pathetic losers making fun and making jokes of this video, it's rather educational. i doubt any of you making fun of this video have ever done ANY auto body work on any kind of carin your lives. go out and try to fix a rust hole or a body panel, it will give you an appreciation for this "cutting corners" method which saves much time and is much easier and cheaper than going to the local junkyard.

  • I agree 100%! Although this video didn't cover all the details of fiberglass body work, it provided a solid introduction that others can learn from. 5 stars

  • you are very right

  • @mhanimemastr2 if you break your fiberglass boat you dont use steel to fix it. same here. Just cut and weld in a new panel else replace the whole fender.

  • @mhanimemastr2 When you buy a used car repaired like this and it rusts out completely in 6 months you'll understand. It is the old way of doing things yes and it works if you want to dump your car on someone else. But nowdays for a lasting repair, all rusted metal has to be replaced with new via welding etc...

The 'lazy pathetic losers' are correct this time. sorry.

  • @mhanimemastr2 it was educational but i didn't like how he didn't finish sanding it down to were it could look professional.

  • @mhanimemastr2 Now and then are two diffent times ..Now adays you can buy a compresser and sand blaster Cheap and do a better job in half the time ..Do you know how many People in a month come to a bodyshop and want there car repaired right..after they tryied to do it themselfs ..Any spray can paints on a car cost extra to remove reason..when sanded it gums up the sand paper really fast and times x2 the time to remove ..bodyshops will not paint over spary can paint

  • @mhanimemastr2 ur right but if they want to be losers you dont have to tell them because deep down they probably know, :P Anyways i havent done this and im 14 im making my car good as new

  • ok, at 2:35 when he puts the first layer of fiberglass, he should have put duct tape on the opposite side of the edge so the mat doesn't bend in plus it would be way easier to apply..

  • I don't think fiber glass patches are that bad. On a low budget when you don't have any other choice it can be a life saver. I'm acctualy doing it right now on my old bug.

  • REDNECK REPAIR 101

i'm surprised he didn't use chewing gum

  • that was a nice vid...you all know the guy who posted the video is not the one in the video!!...keep your negitave coments to your self..its a late 80's video...

  • thats wobblier than a dogs hind leg... id just army green that and retire it to the fields haha..

  • But I gotta say! Look at how sloppy he put the first fiberglass mat on.

  • Well this was really helpful to me because I got a 1972 Monte Carlo and for me to buy new restoration body parts are not cheap.

  • haha....4:15 ready for primer.....! listen mate, you should spend more time working on eating healthy food than working on cars you fat fuck! there is absolutely no way you would ever work on my car. you cut corners big time. now, go eat a salad for crist sake!!!!

  • great info!

  • and now the front left part of the car weighs a tonne.

  • lmao. the comments on this video are sheer fucking comedy!

  • Omg this guy is always using that lame ass driller with sanding pad,Go buy a grinder you cheapskate!

  • alternatively you just just invest in a welder and do it properly.

  • the gold watch said it all

  • Tada!!! and thats how you make fiberglass tires.

  • hahahaha hahah

  • This guy is an idiot. Ive never herd of anybody sanding the first coat of anything with anything smaller than 40 grit sand paper. You don't use 80 to build the shape, you use 36 - 40to do the shape then put on a thin coat of bondo. Sand that with 80. Filler primer, sand with 320, seal, and paint. This guy has to make a whole production for such a small job. And for a small cheapy job like that he couldve just used long strand fiberglass hair putty.

  • although theres ignorent people that can't appreciate your ideas, they waste their time with nonesense., "hey does the job that most cheap people always wanna pay". very good work keep it up!

  • WTF is "ignorent"?

  • Cant Hear a Word Your Saying...Speak Up MotherFucker

  • Yeah, I was just kidding. God dude, do at least one thing right. Even your body line is way off. That's what you call a Buy Here Pay Here body shop hack job.
