Only a song like this is able to make you understand you're about to listen wonders in your ears within its first 7 seconds. Only Radiohead could achieve such an awesome begining to a song.
42 people only like familiar sounding manufactured commercial pop that's 'safe' to listen to and find the complexity of strange and different too confusing for them to handle
Supposedly, the cover art of this single as well as Supercollider/The Butcher suggest that these three songs would have been on The King of Limbs. The Song "Codex" means "Tree Trunk" in Latin. Hence, the 6th Song in the album is the "Tree Trunk", meaning that it is right in the middle. 6 is right in the middle of 11, which is how many songs there should have been.
But who knows. These bastards always deliver the best Music in the world. Radiohead <3
@juanthefatty To me, These are My Twisted Words is the seed, TKOL is the tree, Supercollider & The Butcher are the branches. « Separator » separates the tree from it's limbs. There will be 2 more limbs (other B-Sides) because « Codex » is in the middle of the tree (tree trunk)... it's just a theory, but It'd be cool.
The thing with Radiohead is they'll release an album like King Of Limbs with tongs of crackely delicate electronica and low-fi qualitities, but just casually release some totally unrelated masterpiece like this beforehand, as if to say "yea...we could have done this if we felt like it".
Think of Fasttrack, followed by Fake Plastic Trees.
That drum beat against that long drawn out guitar timing is SO fucking badass that I pray this ends up on one of their albums.
Then again, this band is reinventing how music is released, so maybe caring "what makes the album" is an outdated idea anyway.
I just think this song is so slippery and slithery the way it hovers right on this knife edge between warmth and ominous stormclouds. The minor/major shifts just flirt with every emotion in me. And Jonny's wtf noise at 4:07? Priceless.
I'm a Radiohead and Muse fan I don't see what the problem is with liking both of them. Admitted though when I first heard Muse I claimed they were just a Radiohead rip off but that was before I really gave them a chance. Both times I've seen Radiohead they have been truly awe inspiring performances and no band (Pantera, Metallica, NIN, Tool) has kicked my ass harder in a show then Muse. True Bellamy may not be the worlds greatest guitarist but the energy those three produce is amazing.
i can't believe that any band could make an OK Computer and a Bends within two years of eachother, be pronounced dead after a Pablo Honey, then come back with a refreshed, original IDM-esque alternative rock with a Kid A, an Amnesiac and above all: an In Rainbows- the best album of the last ten years.

Muse IS pop. Pretentious music for pretentious cock suckers. They certainly have a few good songs but Matt Bellamy truly is a mediocre guitarist for anyone who understands how to play the instrument and they will NEVER compare to what Radiohead has become.
@figaz555 Bollocks. Pop? Matt Bellamy incorporates alot of classical styles in he's playing, especially piano. He's voice is not popish at all, and he's exquisite guitar riffs and genius use of effects are irrefutable. Lets not forget Chris, a bassist who actually plays some poignant riffs. Their drummer is also quite innovative. You prefer Radiohead, fair enough, but lets not bury the hatchet by saying a band that is exceptionally good is complete shit. Your only lieing to yourself.
I can't belive I used to like them this music is fucking crazy makes me sad ppl need to hear happyer music This is crazy that's why I lisin to the muse lmao

i can't believe that any band could make an OK Computer and a Bends within two years of eachother, be pronounced dead after a Pablo Honey, then come back with a refreshed, original IDM-esque alternative rock with a Kid A, an Amnesiac and above all: an In Rainbows- the best album of the last ten years.

Ah, i don't think IDM doesn't fit neither Kid A, nor amnesiac

Radiohead is The Very Best Ever. Radiohead is unique, Muse just has few good songs (early ears, i think).

this song scares me a bit but i like it anyway

Muse is pop compared to Radiohead.

@confusionandme
Muse IS pop. Pretentious music for pretentious cock suckers. They certainly have a few good songs but Matt Bellamy truly is a mediocre guitarist for anyone who understands how to play the instrument and they will NEVER compare to what Radiohead has become.

@figaz555
ok ok look,
just because you like radiohead more than muse doesn't mean
muse is this shitty pop band.
STFU please, i love both muse and radiohead equally have seen both
bands more than twice and let me tell you, these two bands are potentially
some of the greatest bands of our time. they still have some time to fully mark their
name in history but you just cant bash on muse like that. they have some serious talent.
and by that i mean they will blow you mind off your little body!

@figaz555 LOL MY NAME IS FIGAZ AND I WON'T LISTEN TO POPULAR MUSIC APART FROM RADIOHEAD BECAUSE THEY'RE COOL IN THE UNDERGROUND!
Are Muse as good as Radiohead? Of course not. Are they a good band in their own right? Definitely. (Discounting recent releases)

I seriously hate radiohead fans.
Not as much as I hate muse fans though....
I think I just hate fans. What a bunch of idiots...

this song wasn't leaked really. they released it freely as a download on their website like a year and a half ago. LOve IT!

@klaasjanBerbatov It was leaked on BitTorrent a week in advance of the release... and it was leaked by the band.
