  • Like it a lot, it's very heavy in a non-Boogie sort of way!

  • @1111kordun Thanks! Thats what I was going for. Heavy, without the usual amplifiers.

  • awesome tone

  • @akaboo69 Thanks!

  • that is one crazy sound!

    it drives me nuts :D

i'll save it among my favourites

  • @moebetoblame Thank you!

  • What microphones are there?!

  • @DyingFlower13 Shure SM 57-Sennheise 421, and an EV RE20.

  • I really love this tone!

  • @nnouuofficial I WAS JUST THINKING OF THIS VIDEO A MINUTE AGO!!!

I swear... This is too cool...I was remembering seeing the first Black Sabbath reunion,

and then thought of my experience with an "Iomi" tone...

and said to myself, "yeah...I remeber the JTM45 video I shot really gets the Old School Black Sabbath vibe".

And then your comment came in. :-) Perfect Timing.

Thanks for the kind words. AB

  • @AndyBaylor I'm happy to hear that! I'll try JTM45 and Dyna Ranger tomorrow. Your tone sounds great in Japan too!

  • @nnouuofficial LOL! I'm glad my tone sounds good in Japan.

It is a wonderful combimation, the Dyna Ranger and JTM45. Have fun trying them out.

Be careful though. It's gonna be loud....and you might awaken a sleeping reptile...or giant moth! .:-)

  • I wish you wouldn't have mixed this. I'd like to know what it sounds like raw. It is a great mix though!

  • man that thing whoops some serious ass!!!

  • It sounds like Black Sabbath meets King's X

  • is this amp loud?

  • @ZakkHendrix666 Yeah...not 100 watt loud though.will get over the drums though

  • That shows how much a boost can improve an amp.

  • @TMF58 Yep..its amazing what a good boost will do. Thanks for the post!

  • hey dude, could you PM the directions for the mod? im getting a JTm 45 kit soon and i love the tone!

  • It involves turning the amp back to "old Spec".Gotta change the filter caps to a lower value, and somthin else...do a google search, and it'll come up. Good Luck

  • dude GREAT tone that riff is fucking tasty that dyna ranger really makes a difference i gotta get me one of those

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Hy,

really great tone. What exactly did you modified in your JTM?

  • Thanks! Old Spec KT66 tubes, and Filter caps.

  • ouch.. Kicks ass dude..ouch ouch!!!!!!

totally awesome tone.. that's it???? the marshall and the boost pedal???

    damn!!!

  • Yup. Thats it. Boost and JTM 45.

"Old School " whup ass here buddy.

    Thanks for the listen!

  • hehe =D

reminds me of my JCM900 with boss HM-2 (japanese , 1981) . sounds that grainy , fuzzy , agressive yet musical tone :)

i shall try some mods on my JCM900 anyway ... any thoughts on using a dallas-rangemaster-like pedal on it ?

  • Didn't expect anything so heavy with jtm45 and I'm not a huge metal fan but that's what I'd call a heavy and huge sound!

  • for all you young punks out there posting your vids from your bedroom acting like tone experts, this is REAL tone & REAL sound quality! I'm not talkin about the great recording quality either, I'm talkin bout the sound of the head. Killer job man !

  • Thanks man! Thanks a lot.

    As I've said before,

"Bow Down to the Cloven Hoof of Marshall Death". AB 2009

  • I totally agree.

  • this is the kind of tone that when you hear it, you nod your head slowly with a grinning smile cause its badass!

  • Thanks for the listen!

And yeah...this is a good place to be. Heavy, Old School style.

  • Great tone! I'm about to replace my jtm-45 RI tubes to KT66. Do you know what brand of KT66 you use? TAD? Also what preamp tubes do you use?

    Thanx,

    Mike

  • Hey Mike-

JJ tubes are in there. Make sure you do the complete mod..i.e. change the filter caps to the old spec too. Good luck!

  • what type of speakers are loaded in the cab? I have a 79 JMP and boost it w/ a tr-9. i've never tried the dynaranger.

  • 30 watt Celestions

  • Awesome tone! Is it a big difference here and live because of YouTube compression...?

  • Yes . It sounds 1,000,000 time better in person!

  • Cool!

I'm building a JTM45 clone right now with Mercury trannies and KT66 tubes, it's gonna be a killer

  • Glad you like it.

Let's hear some clips when your done with the amp! Good Luck!

  • always wanted to get a JTM45 Great job!

  • Thanks foer the listen!

  • I LOVE black sabbath, good tone and very good riff.....the iommi vibe ( with your entire fingers I supose XD!)...thanks for the demo, now I know the tone I WANT for my guitar ..jtm45+dyna ranger..thanks a lot friend, !

  • Thanks a Lot!!

Glad to be of help. AB

  • Icy cool riff, smoking hot tone makes for an explosive combo... Keep the clips coming. I truly appreciate what you're doing. It's very helpful in this day age when people are compelled to buy before using something. I'dike to hear that amp smackedw with some single coils & a Prescription Experience or some fuzz /octave...Again, keep it up ...!!! Thanks,

  • THANK YOU MY BROTHER!!!

Yeah...I've gotta do something with this riff. Write somthin when I get the time.

I've tried the single coils & a Prescription Experience or some fuzz /octave...and it doesn't sound as good. :-( Not as good as this.

The combo for that is a Marshall 1986 50 watt Bass head. THAT is what you want.

    Thanks again-AB

  • Personally I prefer a Gibson and a Marshall flat out, Treble full, Mid ..Mid! and Bass low - great sound, and doesn't sound like a fuzz box...which this set up does

  • Well..this is based on the early Black Sabbath tones....and theses tones can scare a lot of people!

  • i have a 2x12 marshall JTM60 combo that i hate, anyone wanna buy?

  • Excellent tone.

Am thinking of checking the marshall JTM reissue. Pretty affordable in the UK!

  • Make sure that you or a tech can perform the mods..i.e. change the tubes to a KT66 platform, and put the older value filter caps in it. That makes all of the difference!

    Also...DYNARANGER. Thats the key.

Let me know how it goes...and good luck!

  • Save your money & get the tone of your dreams with a Metropoulos (a.k.a.Metro amp) .Sligo Amps can build a Metro kit for you.Germino Amps are flawless replicas of some of the finest examples of JTMs.All of these companies offer a better product than Marshall . Weird!!! They make better Marshalls than Marshall.

  • so is this a JTM resissue or the real thing? seriously man, this is the best you tube tone i've ever heard

  • dude this amp roars

  • Doesn't it?!?!? It still kills me to this day.

    Thanks a lot! AB

  • you're so right chromez-

I don't really like this kind of music

but andrew dice baylor's tone is

    very compelling on this vid

  • OMG this sounds so good. Really digging the Sabbath vibe. GREAT TONE!

  • Hey Now! Sorry for the late reply. Thanks a lot for the compliment.

With a You Tube name like yours...I'm sure you know your stuff. Thanks again.AB

  • that is a great setup, man... exactly how I'd do it. Mic's were set up well too. What does the left knob do on the boost pedal do?

  • Different Kind of boost.

    1 being less bass

    5 being lotsa bass.

    Thanks for the listen!

  • Cool sound !

  • Hi bro just curious the name of the top microphone you have in the pic, It is above the sm 57

  • That is a Sennheiser MD 421. It's a great mic!

    Thanks for the listen-AB

  • Great job!

    Sounds perfect!

  • Thank you very much!

  • Sounds so good!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • holy shit does that sound huge!!!

  • I could not believe it either...

Old School Death!!! Gotta love it.

  • Yeah... my favourite setup: JTM45 and a capmodded Rangemaster!

  • You can't beat it!

In the room is the place to hear it. Huge.

  • Hi,

I'm blown away by the massive sound with that combo(Marshall JTM45/Divby13 Dynaranger)

I'm planning to buy a hand wired replica from retroking and the Dyna Ranger.

As far as guitars, i like different ones(LP, SG, Strats, Tele) and i have 'em.

  • Thanks a lot! This combo rules.

I plugged the Dyna Ranger into a 1970 Marshall 1987 50 watt head...and it sounded like ass. So this is the the way to go.

I'd make sure the Retroking is KT66 powered. That helps a lot.

    You've got the guitar covered.

    A tele would sound killer!

Post Clips when you can, and Good Luck! AB

  • WOAAA!!!! That is possibly my new favourite guitar tone! lol. Which WCR pickups were you using? also, i noticed you had something plugged into 3 of the 4 inputs... what were they?

  • Thanks a lot!

    WCR Darkburst in the bridge.

Channel jumped the Marshall It's a common trick!

Isn't it HEAVY!!! Man..I never thought this combo would sound so good!

    Thanks for th listen-AB

  • yeah it really is, man, i'm going to see if i can acquire a JTM45 now. lol. so the extra cable is just a jumper then? thats what i thought. which input is the actual guitar going into (or does it matter)?

last question, i promise! the Dyna-Ranger setting #2... is that the most similar setting to the real dallas rangemaster?

  • Just a jumper..nothin else.

Don't know about the Rangemaster settings. I've never used one!

    Good Luck!

  • fucking a. that sounds incredible. is this the original or the vintage modern reissue?

  • Thanks a lot!!

It from the first year of re-issues, 1990's vintage.

The best thing to do with these is to mod them back to KT66 tubes, and change one of the filter caps. There a a bunch of sites that have the mod...ZOSO might sell the whole kit. Or Metropolis.

    Thanks again! AB

  • Man that's a friggin crushing guitar tone!

  • Thanks! This was a plesant suprise.

I didn't think this combo would sound as good.

  • thanx for the fast answer... some part remember me a little bit on jamies crying from van halen... but anyway... great riff and a great sound

  • from what song is the riff... i think i know it.. but i didnt get the name

  • It's something I wrote.

A cross between a Kings X tune (Over My Head) with a Black Sabbath vibe superimposed.

  • What a killer guitar sound! Super tight drummer too! How sweet it is! :)

  • the guitar tone is awesome. what kind of cabinet/speakers are you using?

  • Thanks! It's a Marshall 1960B with 30 watt Celestions. Pretty much does it all!

  • does the JTM45 works well with pedals ? (even the heavy metal ones ... yah i'm a metal guy but tired of amps lacking tone . real tone

  • Hey Now! Thats a good question. I haven't pluggged my Metal Zone into it yet. I'll do that soon. I'd bet it would sound good though. For me, the less circutry, the better the sound.

The pedal I'm using for this demo is a treble booster...a very old design for distortion...I'm going for a traditional kind of heavy sound. Like Bloodrock. Or Hawkwind. Crazy shit!

  • ueah . try to cut the high on the metalzone . some shit like this :bass 5 , treble 0 , mid 7 or 8 , and the mid fred set wherever you want to dial a good tone . and test it with a little amount of gain and lots of "level" . then tell me if it sounds good for thrash metal tones :D (even if i love oldschool tones such as the one in the vid better )

  • That will sound terrible on a JTM45. The natural bass of the amplifier is already muddy, boosting it with the metal zone will not make it sound any better. You really need to boost the highs and mids on this amplifier.

The JTM45 does not really have the tightness in bass response for metal, nor does it have the aggressiveness in pick attack, theres too much sag, particularly on the low notes and will not give you the definition for "chugga chugga" metal.

  • It may sound ok for metal, but with that regard, so would a Fender twin. There are amps that are much more suitable for metal that do not lack tone. A master volume Marshall (JCM800) will give much tighter bass response and a much more aggressive pick attack than the JTM which tends to "sag" a bit.

  • agreed...but, I'd been exploring the vintage metal vibe for this one. Early Sabbath/Blue Cheer/Hawkwind...pre JCM 800 days.

I wish I could teleport you over here so you could play it. It's a lot of fun!

  • giw di tiy get that tone...

  • Andy! I used to take lessons from you! Good to see you're still rockin! TONE!! RAWK!!!!
