  • Night time is the right time. All you need is some silky funk like this, (1) 100 miligram of Viagra, (3) condomes, (2) blunts and a fifth of crown royal. Tell her " hold on tight as i navigate you to 30,000 ft. It'll be bumpy at first, but i'm gonna level you off and smooth you out!" "Please put on your seat belt as turbulance is ahead" Then you starting stroking that thing out!!!!!!!!

  • Oh I love this song.

  • I used to play this song prior to driving the B-44 NOSTRAND AVE. bus in Brooklyn, New York and loved it while getting stoned with one of my best friends in Brooklyn....

  • Smooth. Hennesey or Corvousier. I remember this tune when I was up in the pacific northwest---Tacoma and Seattle. Sationed at Ft Lewis. Driving on I- 5 with the honey, going up to Vancouver or to Portland. Great song and instrumentation, background vocals, ect... Classic. Man, i miss those days---awesome

  • REAL MUSIC!!!!

  • I just heard this on 98.7 KISS in NY and was floored! I'm an old soul and instantly fell in love. What a picture this song paints while driving along the NS Pkwy.

  • THis is a true classic.. I freakin love this song...

  • Classic!

  • Ooooooweeeeeee!!! I'm so glad I got this album! I gotta thank my dad for playing the 8 track of this LP, and thank you for uploading this smokin' track!! YouTube is the home for true old-school music!!

  • Does it get any better than this ?..

  • This brings back soooo many memories....WOW!!!!

  • a classic, remember it well...

  • i love this song

  • I have been looking all over for this song. Smooth Classy Cuts are hard to find. The music now is about absolutely nothing. Thanks for posting.

  • This is on his greatest CD.

  • And let the "CHUCH" so amen lol!

  • Just pure magic. What sophisticated music. A real fat fat tune.

  • Wow what can I say except thanks Mom and Dad for sharing your music and your neverending coolness.

  • At the Concert, You can imagine the whole scene. OUTFUCKINGSTANDING. Nuff said!!!!!

  • I played this back to my ex in the 80's to win her back and it worked. I will always remember this jam.

  • I am feeling this I look so foward to my CD coming I ordered this from AMAZON records.

  • This is what I grew up on SUBSTANCE. Not this uninspired and homogenous junk we have now....right on 35tonya

  • I love this song. I can't stop listening to it. We need more songs with substance and real meaning. And Michael Henderson was so, so cute. Robert Flack is all to classic. Alright bringing back the 70's

  • It's the dimples, right? I LURVE Michael's dimples.

  • Man This takes me back! Thanks for posting!

  • Comment removed

  • real cool tho!

  • Miles Davis? Because he's using a mute?

  • Fabulous. One of my favourites by him.

  • Big Respect to "JUBA" the musician on percussions on this song.

  • old school let's macke ababy !

  • Epic!

  • Much thanks & appreciation for posting this absolutely classic DIAMOND of "Old School" soul! I not only remember, vividly, listening to the "Goin Places" L.P., (and enjoying this tune in particular), but by the grace of God, I still own the 12 inch vinyl copy! Great music such as this, as well as SO MUCH music produced in the 70's, represent a ton of precious memories for me, personally. Michael Henderson was an outstanding vocalist & musician in his time, and he probably STILL has the gift!

  • the crescendo in the bridge and at the conclusion will literally take ur breath away if u really focus on it. absolutely incredible what music does to ur soul!

  • AGREED

  • jus found out from michael himself (believe it not) that miles is not playing the muted trumpet on this piece. he said that was his first choice, but miles wasn't able to do it. according to mr henderson a fella names marcus belgrave played it. anyway it's the best miles impression i've heard. thanks again for posting! God bless u and yours!

  • When he did this tune in 78 it was Chuck Masieon on the mute,,,,,,I was there

  • @oicw65 - The album actually came out in late 1977 around the same time as Heatwave's first album...Too Hot to Handle..

  • A great revelation, Itinsley2. So it really isn't Miles after all? I'm not surprised. Ever since Miles first put that mute in his trumpet in the 50's(?), anybody who put a mute in their trumpet sounded like him.

  • sure freddypknight! glad to help. you're right, it's easy to think it's Miles with that muted horn. peace and blessings to u and yours!

  • A wonderful classic timepiece that transcends you right back to that period in time.

  • Thanks for Posting this one.....an Awesome Classic..!!

  • I LOVVVVVVVVE this song!!!!!!!!! "could we make before we breakup"

  • WOW!!!!!! Takes me wayyyy backkkk!!!!!!!

  • Dude is cheesy as a mug at 3.30 but, its a big reason why I love his music. You know it is from his heart.

  • LOL...that ain't cheesy...that's showing off a something like 5 and a half octave range.

  • damn...only 6,000 lus views?

i'm only 36 yrs old,and this is a straight up classic! i heard a doubble play on the radio of this followed by starship and it took me back to when i was in pampers, and my mom and pops was singing this to me...R.IP. pops!!

  • OMG!!!!!

I have been looking for this cut for so long.

My pops used to play this cut out when I was a youngin. I was 6 at that time.

I hear this on WRFG 89.3 in ATL and I was just about to buy the album.

So glad that I came back!!

    MAN!!!

  • The organ!!!! And the bass!!!!

  • oh isnt this pretty

  • He is a talent. Her is also still touring. This song was just so soft and still sounds good after all of these years.

  • Freddy, there's no doubt at the end of the song that's a muted trumpe. I fully agree there. I thought you wwere talkig about the solo at the beginning, which definitely isn't a muted trumpet.

  • hilltopboots, no problem. We cool. You seem to know a lot about Michael Henderson. What's the deal? I still have about 4 of his LP's (the wax platters -not CDs). I've been a big fan since he first came out. His artistry is obvious. I went to see him at the Roxy Theater in L.A. in about '78 or '79(?). Dude came on stage with crutches and a cast on his foot! He had recently broken it. That didn't effect the concert, though. He jammed both the singing and the bass.

  • I do't do buses LOL. It may very well be a muted trumpet but you can't deny that it sounds really close to an alto sax.

At any rate, it's a great song. Let s all enjoy it.

  • Michael Henderson was a bassist for Stevie Wonder. Miles Davis liked him so much, he told Stevie, "I'm taking your damn base player."

Michael Henderson also discover Cherelle, who was a neighbor of his.

And it's not a triumpet solo, it's an alto sax.

  • hilltopboots, I challenge you to listen to this song closely from beginning to end and report back to us youtubers what instruments take solos. If you hear a muted trumpet solo, you owe an apology for your previous comments. If you don't hear a muted trumpet solo, you're on a different bus than the rest of us.

  • Sounds like you read the same book I did. I read the exact same thing about what went down with Miles, Stevie and Michael.

  • This song and Valentine Love were Michael's coming out songs.

  • For REAL !! Both songs make me want to rip my hair out, LOL !! They make me feel exactly the way I felt when I first heard them...30 years ago. They are TRULY timeless masterpieces.

  • a nice smooth jam from two great artists

  • This piece of music is so incredible. The most maximum of respect to Michael Henderson and Roberta Flack. Absolute quality, Beautiful.

  • This is wonderful. Thank you so much.

  • Much luv to the old school. My pops played that Solid album a lot. Never heard this one. This song is amazing. I respect Mr. Henderson's style very fresh. This song is timeless, it can be enjoyed for many generations.

    Peace and Blessings

  • Once I get a chance to burn my all my albums, this will definitely be in my ipod!!

  • This is arguably one of the sexiest songs ever made. Why is it so har to find???

  • I agree. The music on this track is very seductive. Kinda makes you wonder what Sylvia (Pillow Talk) could've done with this???

  • By the way, this song is on The Best Of Michael Henderson featuring Jean Carn & Phyllis Hyman. I keep it in my car with me :-) Do a google on it and see where it''s available. Actually the entire compilation is very nice. Hope you can find it. God bless :-)

  • Herbie Hancock is listed on the album. He's a keyboardist. However, I'm not sure if he's playing keyboards on this particular song.

  • Used to have this forgot how good it was. Does anyone know who's the keyboard player.

  • Actually Mike himself played keyboards as well as bass on this LP. If you're talking about the fly organ intro, a cat named Rod Lumpkin played that from my understanding. He also had a couple of heavyweights on this one. Ray Parker Jr played guitar and Herbie Hancock was on the Fender Rhodes. Unbelievable track indeed!

  • Yes its the organ that does it 4 me . thanks 4 the info.

Used 2 have the LP and the one with in the summertime on it.

  • Sure glad to help. Sounds like Miles on that muted trumpet as well. That would make since because Michael played with Miles before he hooked up with Norman Connors and went solo.

  • that organ intro is the fuckin shit whoever was playing it done some major hurtin on that thats my shit!!!

  • And man does he make that B3 organ percolate and gurgle! I think it's Eli Fontaine on alto trading off with Rod Lumpkin on organ in the intro. The sax run at 0:51 ain't no joke. Just listen to that horn section, too, in the intro. Those bass trombones are on it! The arranging on this song is superb! This has been one of my favorites for more than 30 years!

  • Yes indeed! The entire track is unbelievable from start to finish. You're right, the arrangement is incomparable. This is a quiet storm classic!

  • freddy, thanks for turning me onto this. I had forgotten about this one! Eli's smooth as butter.

  • My pleasure, customkey. And they say that it is Miles Davis (who Mike Henderson played with for a while) playing the muted trumpet solo at mid-song and at the end. I gave it an intense listen and a big smile came to my face; it IS Miles Davis.

  • freddy, I always wondered about the trumpet solo on this, always suspected that it might be Miles. And I believe that you're right.....Miles on trumpet!

  • You're right. Who else plays a muted trumpet like that?

  • I've been lookin for this jam! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting!

Michael & Robert= pure musical, magical bliss!

  • i love this jam!!! i can remember back in the day making a mixed tape of mellow jams... for those moments when you're with a special lady.

that tape never let me down. man, this brings back lot's of memories! (smile)

  • I grew up on this album back in the last 70's early 80's. He is a great vocalist

  • so did i,you just don't hear that style anymore.everything is computer generated.

  • i agree with you on this to this day people still dont know who micheal henderson is i grew up listening to him jean carne etc thi list goes on and on!!!!!

  • That is a very nice song

  • This is wonderful! Thank you so much.

  • so nice, i wanna sample this..

  • what cd can I find this song on? LUV IT!!!!!

  • GOIN' PLACES is the name of the album released in 1979.

  • thanks! I have loved that song for years!

  • lol...ya'll gotta remember, many of those pictures of her were taken in the 2000s...and she's 69 years old this year. in her younger days she wasnt bad on the eyes.

but this (or 'in the night time') is not only my favorite henderson cut, but one of my three favorite r & b tunes. PERFECT.

  • There's no doubt that Roberta could scare the face off an iodine bottle. But the girl can sing. In the words of the late great Richard Pryor "Sing that song you bitch!"

  • Oh yes, thank you I was looking for this one, yes,yes yes yes yes!!!!!!!!! thank you for this one.......big thumbs up

  • Oh how I loved this song. Reminds me of DC in the 80's. Sexy sax.

  • D.C. in the late 70's & early 80's AT THE CONCERT pumping on Howard University Radio WHUR 96.3 FM smooth & sultry muted trumpet. When Progressive Jazz ruled. Michael & Roberta's classy & sexy vocals. Nothing less than brilliant.

  • Thank you for posting

  • This is the song that was a breakout for Michael Henderson. Not you are my starship by Norman Connors.

Check out the sax and enjoy. It don't get too much better than this folks.

  • Hey hilltopboots I too dig that sexy sax during the intro but; check out the muted trumpet at the interlude and the end. Smooth jazz at it's best.

  • I've been checking for this melow jam for months.

    Thanks for posting.

  • fantastic
