Japanese soldiers were brave and ready to die for their country but they lost just because they thought that they are the best nation in the world and they tried to occupie more and more islands from Pacific ocean. US Marines teached them a lesson and now Japan is one good country.

There were Japs that continued fighting in caves and mountain until 1953 , 1971 and two of em until 1991 .. Im serious They didnt believe the war was over so they just stayed there fighting in the jungles at anything that came at them.

the pacific war. seems to me that it was much more difficult to fight an enemy that was suicidal. the germans were difficult and fanatical as well,but they did not commit suicide so readily as the japanese. it must have been absolute hell to fight on those small islands.

Niels Borh went with the Nazis and Enrico Fermi went with the allies. This was in the late 30s. The development of the atom bomb was concurrent on both sides but the german mission failed to obtain the correct result in order to produce the neccesary critical mass. The allies guessed it right and succeeded in getting the required results with uranium sometime early in the war.(1942?)

The USA knew, without a doubt that they would defeat Japan. Following Midway (summer '42) the Japanese were defeated. Every Island we invaded we were prepared to win but we never knew how costly the Japanese would make it. All the casualties, Japanese and Allies, were a terrible shame. Hirohito, probably the only man on earth with the ability to put a stop to the madness in the Pacific did NOT act. Propaganda and culture kept the Japanese fighting until the end without hope of victory.

I just attended a family reunion. One group of posted photos showed several of my uncles in uniform during the war. They were SO young! 4 were were seriously wounded, 2 permanently. All served in the Pacific theater (4 Navy, 1 Army, 1 USMC). Damn Hitler and Tojo for the suffering they caused whole regions of people! Makes it hard to sympathize with the Japanese and Germans and what THEY suffered. War IS Hell! God Bless all who served.

They handed them their first defeat in battle in stalingrad as soon as 1942 and then defeated them in a 300 mile tank battle in Kursk were the drove the Nazi's back to Berlin. The Nazi's were on the run why would the russians be afrad at that point. The Americans entered the war because they were front runners.

However, you're very wrong saying that neither France or Britain put up a fight. The German high command were better strategists and defeated France with a brilliant plan. Britain fought for its life to the end of the war, with higher losses than the US: the longest continuous battle was in the east, hence their higher losses.

I don't know what Australia provided their soldiers, but the average American landed with about four tons of supplies backing him, including everything--food, armaments, ammunition and so forth. This doesn't cover at all the controversial nature of the Iwo Jima or Palau landings. It falsely states that Iwo Jima became an important air base (which it never became). These landings were unnecessary and very costly.

Anyone else notice that they show 3 or 4 shots of soldiers tripping and falling on the ground? It seems like they are trying to make the soldiers look like fools. But I guess I would agree that war is stupid.
