@edwardjosephoshea It could be that the Replicator-Access was restricted in that Episode. I think there was once and episode were that happened, but I don't know for sure right now.
Is no one wondering why Janeway has to go to Neelix first and ask him for coffee instead of just using her own replicator in her quarters or ready room? Does he have a special kind of borg-pimped replicator in the mess hall?
It's also funny to watch when Neelix is showing up on the brigde or somewhere else with a bottle of coffee which is the exact same coffee you can order at any replicator on the ship. Even on the bridge. Neelix seems to have nothing else to do than being the delivery boy.
@Monhold replicators were restricted somewhat since they were in the delta quadrant, IIRC while they were allowed certain amount for personal use, something like a daily cup would have to be done through neelix.
@AnvilMAn603 But shes's the damn captain! She can do what she wants, even destroying the whole ship, what she surely did several times... who carres about cofee?!?
Janeway's so insane! Sisko may have had a thing for Klingon Coffee, but he didn't need to drink it to take on no less than a dozen genetically-engineered super soldiers in hand-to-hand combat.
Someone explain to me why she walked over to Neelix and said "Coffee, Black" so that he'd walk to the replicator to say "Coffee, Black," when she walked right PAST it?
@XcV290 Coffee is the safest, least addictive stimulant possible, its helps prevent dementia AND it tastes good. Plus it's likely the cheapest, most efficient option; on a ship that has to ration its energy and food reserves, replicating or producing some sort of non-addictive stimulant compound in large quantities would be impossible. Coffee (or tea, if one prefers) makes the most sense. It gets millions of people through work every day, why should the Voyager crew be any different?
They should have made a movie with Janeway. I liked her more than (hawk) Sisko, she had a sense of class that was natural without a brittish accent to somehow sound classy. Great actress.....
What was great about Voyager was how the writers so clearly would rather be writing ANY OTHER KIND OF SHOW instead of a sci-fi series. "Hey, let's add some of that 1970s-cop-show vibe! How about we make the captain a quirky hard-ass with a thing for anachronistic beverages?" "Super! Also, let's use the holodeck more to showcase our failed Twilight Zone scripts!"
how I wish it was so easy, waking up, barking the words "coffe, black" and you start the day right. It shouldn't be that hard to connect a coffee machine to your computer and switch it on over voice activation huh? ;)
@SteveOfHate You can get pretty good voice-activation tech nowadays so if you programmed one to activate on "coffee, black" and wire it into the switch for black coffee then yeah, it would probably be fairly simple.
@SteveOfHate lol i have better solution. usually my wife gets up b4 I do and makes coffe. I dont even hafto ask :) no sexist pig attitude held shes just awesome.
@SteveOfHate That's actually a great idea. Most people shut their computer down at night, and it usualy takes a while to start up. But if there was some way to leave the mic on...
@AndrewDeLong actually, with a little disclosure it would be possible to exactly build one of those replicators, it's zero point energy and the fact that matter IS energy on highest vibrations. So if you shorten the wavelength / extremely rise the frequenzy, you may create the smalles particle of all, with this it should be possible to create subatomic parts, then atoms, molecules etc. But this may need a high end computer.
Anyway, please let me know how when "sucker" works. I'd love to see ;)
its funny how captain picard only drank coffee once, in samaritan snare, and never gave his opinion of it... I think he survived the heart surgury because of coffee as a steroid... Though I did try earl gray tea, and it is healthier for my cells because of the anti-oxidant thing...
Hi, I'm a starfleet captain and i'm an addict of coffee, raktijinos, earl grey tea, and whatever that shit that crackhead T'Pol gave me in that hypospray crackpipe.
Hi, I'm a starfleet captain and i'm an addict of coffee, raktijinos, earl grey tea, and whatever that shit that crackhead T'Pol gave me in that hypospray crackpipe.
@halomasterchief14 Commander T'Pol got addicted to Trellium D during the Xindi Saga. She assembled a small hypospray crackpipe tray device to repeatedly get high over like 5 episodes, and Dr. Phlox had to help her get off the drugs. Humans don't get high off Trellium D, but Vulcans do get high off of it.
@PippinRally Ah I see your point, but I would think she'd have them off to the side somewhere, especially where the cream should be refrigerated.
A tip for your visitors' sake: though it doesn't exactly "spoil" the flavour of coffee changes over time. Once a package is opened, it helps to refrigerate it, and replace it after a month or two. Otherwise the coffee will taste positively disgusting to most regular coffee drinkers. Just in case you didn’t know. =)
@Djsimonroc88 hehe. she prolly never gets hyper cause she's the captain. there's a reason why she's addicted to coffee. she drains it out so much she doesn't get hyper, lol. oh Janeway :]
I've long believed that people who like drinking beverages that can be a bit bitter like coffee or tea are more likely to be given to intellectual or rational pursuits than those who strongly prefer heavily sugarized drinks like soda pop. Yes, I may be over-thinking it a bit, but I still stick to that. I'll share a Star Trek Nerd-ism with you folks here: I decided to buy my first box of Earl Gray tea because of Captain Picard. Live Long, and Prosper!
@JoshuaH688 I bought Pepsi Blue back in 2002 because I thought it looked like Romulan Ale. (When they showed Andorian Ale on ST:Ent, it made me want Pepsi Blue all over again)
@JoshuaH688 Aye, I do like Mountain Dew... but there is no such thing as a labeled "Mountain Dew Code Blue".... there is, however, Mountain Dew: Voltage, and there has also been Mountain Dew: Revolution (from the 1st Dewmocracy) and Mountain Dew: Game Fuel (Alliance; World of Warcraft-themed)... all of which have had differing shades of blue (compared to each other).
@rkmugen Sorry for the mis-statement. I do remember that I purchased a bottle of blue Mountain Dew recently. It must have been Voltage. Well, anyway... Live Long, and Prosper!
Coffee... finest organic suspension ever devised? Ha! She may have been able to use its power to bring down the Borg, but tea got Picard to not only beat the Romulans, resist the Cardassians and withstand Lwaxanna Troi's onslaught, but allowed him to also defeat the Borg Queen in hand-to-hand combat and save Earth's First Contact! The Federation owes its very existence to Picard and his tea!

@ProtoKun7 There's a Klingon tea ritual--I remember that stupid Dr Pulaski went through it with Worf once. Since that was when the Klingons were still transitioning from Soviets in Space to a 100% warrior society, they were filling Klingon society with a bunch of nonsensical "Look how badass these guys are!" tidbits. So the tea was, of course, poisonous.
Yes, I remember, because she covered for Worf having Klingon measles. It was in "Up The Long Ladder", if I recall correctly. And Dr. Pulaski wasn't that bad.
I think this clip clearly demonstrates that while Janeway refused advances from any member of the crew the entire way home, she made up for it with coffee.
That face when she drinks it just oozes the line "Better than sex..."
on janeway's memory alpha page (star trek wiki) theres an entire section devoted to coffee...and i didnt see it in the comments so i looked it up this episode was "bride of chaotica" if im not mistaken
I wonder what would coffee be like then

@greenknight5700 Yep, you hear about raktajino, you never hear about Klingon TEA!
I remember a scene from season 1 of Voyager: They're stranded on the other side of the galaxy, and Janeway asks: "Do we have any coffee left?"

She was annoying as hell. She acted like everyone loved and respected her when the whole crew just rolled their eyes at her presumption.

Decaf isn't an abomination, it's a crime against mankind.
The "Coffee first" is usually my line when I get to work :P Some know it already, so they leave me alone until the coffee has been consumed.
Coffee, the liquid gold on which societies are built!

I think this clip clearly demonstrates that while Janeway refused advances from any member of the crew the entire way home, she made up for it with coffee.
That face when she drinks it just oozes the line "Better than sex..."

I wonder if Janeway can convince Torres to modify Voyager's warp core to take in coffee and anti-coffee.
