at 2:38 when he says James Jamerson, is that a sample of an actual song or just dedicating his playing style? because that riff sounds absolutely funky!

i'm hoping that you couldn't find a picture of Peter Cetera from Chicago and that's why is not in your collage of jammin' bass players. You shouldn't have any trouble finding any on the internet. Like to see you add one or two in there.
I'm not a fan of V's singing but when I got hooked on his music in 2005 and I heard this song....I researched all the bassists Vic mentioned I could see how he sounds the way he sounds then the rabbit hole gets deeper the more I research each bass player :)
It's ok Victor, they want the world to believe that Jaco was better than you, and that you owe it all to him, but don't worry some people know the truth
@huginandmunin I did catch it, but I actually think it was themselves who play it. For instance at 3:18 I can hear that it is Jaco who plays and not Victor making a cover of it. I'm 85% sure, because only Jaco has that mysterious tone when he plays that fretless ;)
Vic Wooten is good and technical brilliant - but Jaco Pastorius is the man that changed everything in modern bassplaying forever... But a fine presentation of the big guns of modern bassplaying.
@Rasmarker I agree but i think Victor diserves more than "good and technical brilliant" he is a musical genius.. if you read his book "The Music Lesson" you will understand
you're great! very nice list of awesome bass players!!! i appreciate that you put also steve harris in the list,he's great... very beatiful list of the great soloist like marcus miller, alain caron, victor wooten, stanley clarke, john patitucci, michael manring, stu hamm ecc... great video!
Wow this song is so good cant get enough of that jazzy funky goodness :D lol Loving the funky bass and guitar!!! I think the best best players were the ones around this era of music its where slap bass belongs adn its where it sounds best, I just wish there was more of this music about now i could dance to this all day!!!
Whats this song called could you tell me so i can try find it
And what would Flea do in this song? He is just a flashy slapper, i would find insulting to have him in the same level Jaco is. Who did Flea influence? crappy rock bands? LOL.
If you read some of the most respetables magazines like bass player magazine, you will find that Flea is consider one of the bassist that change the way to see this beautiful instrument. Maybe you need to read a little more about bass player history. Not only the Genius like Jaco and Marcus will be in the list...people like Flea, Geddy and other guys are not genius but show the people to respect our instrument.
It is John Entwistle using his Status Graphite Buzzard bass, the company is out of business and the ENTIRE thing is made of graphite, and it has L.E.D. lights on the fret markers, they run for about 12 grand now
All players are multi-style bass players. Flea is funk bassist, and i dont think that playing Punk Rock is hard to. I, myself dont know how to play on bass, but player from my band tellin the same thing. BTW: MAIN THEME IS GREAT FOR JAMMIN'!!!!
I thought I'd heard a Victor Wooten song where the entire thing was just, like, a bassplayer name rap and I heard Flea. Is there another Vic song like that one?
Nice job on the video. I was hoping to see Carl Radle of Derk & the Dominos (Layla album) and his tenure as Clapton's 1970's bass sideman. What a great blues bassist he was. We lost him here in Tulsa in 1980 and he was inducted nto the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2006. There is a Youtube video of that ceremony.... again. thanks!
to clear some thins up about "why isnt he in there?" or "how could u forget blah blah blah", the song is based on vic's biggest playing influences, not just the best players in the world. more like the best players to vic.
to garynull, dude how can u say this is corny its fucking mad im proud to call myself a bassist when i hear this and look at all these crazy ass bassist
